Chapter 3

"It was the man with the hoodie", she thought. "You! You! You!" She yelled immediately. "You did this!" Hitting hard on his broad chest, pouncing on his arms whilst he stood there, and didn't even stop her for a second. "Why did you kill her?" She burst into tears. He grabbed her hands, pressing her against the opened door, then looked her straight in her eyes, "I told you to run". Immediately she pushed him, trying to throw punches at his face, but he was such a good fighter. He evaded all her attempts to hit him. Frustratingly, she asked, "who are you? why did you tell me to run? why would you kill Elena?". All these questions and he just stood there, staring at her. She gave up talking and burst into tears.

Suddenly he grabbed her again, held her tight, put his hands over her mouth. "Someone's approaching the door", he said silently. She tried getting out of his grasp, but he held her tightly. "Shhh".

"Footsteps approaching", he pushed her to the bed and grabbed the person who approached the door. (Claws sprouted from his fingers), he tore her neck open. Her lifeless body fell to the ground. Laila gasped! "Why would you, how could you?". She questioned. "You can't trust anyone", he said. "So you killed an innocent person?". He stood staring at her again, showing no emotions or regret what he'd done. "We have to go", he said. "I'm going nowhere with you". You're a murderer", she burst out. He pulled her once more, carried the little bag she had on her, and said calmly, "We'd get caught for this if we don't leave now, there are people out to kill you". She froze.

"He'd either take me by force or knock me out anyway", she quickly thought. "Okay! Okay! Let's go! you don't have to pull me". Saying so, he let her move ahead of him. Slowly they walked to a red truck he quietly pointed at, and with a hand gesture telling her to get in. She got in, pretending to put her seatbelt on, she let him walk to the other side of the truck. Just as he was about to get in, she tried running away. He grinned, let her go for a few meters, then took another path around the Motel to get to her. She thought it was an easy way to get away from the killer, not knowing, he was right around the... "Got you!", he grabbed her again. "Let go of me", she said panting. "Do you want to kill me too? you stabbed my girlfriend you slit an innocent person's neck, and now me?". Laila was angry and tired. She just wanted to getaway. "I'm trying to protect you," he said, pulling her back to the truck. She was quiet until they got in. This time, there was no running.

He started driving, and not too far down the path he'd taken, he heard the police sirens. But he just decided to ignore it. Laila spoke mockingly, "it won't be long till they find out we're the ones from the motel huh?". He ignored her statement. A few minutes on the road and she won't stop trying to get out. "You know if you pushed hard enough, you'd get hurt right?" He said. She mumbled, " Who are you anyway? And what do you want from me?" Then he answered, "I'm Adam Myers, I was sent by the council to protect you". In shock, she stared at him but sat quietly and mumbled to herself. Didn't the council want me dead? protect me? How is that even..?. "The less you know, the better". He interrupted. The drive was going to be a long one.

Damon arrived at the motel Laila and Adam had just left. He asked a few questions at the reception desk, showed Laila's picture and they quickly recognized her. But instead of giving him any information on her, the police were called. Damon used his wolf sense to eavesdrop on the call to the police which gave him a heads up on the murder that had just taken place and why he should leave immediately.

He got into his car, but before he left, he perceived the same wolf stench he got at Elena's home. This was a hunch that someone else had been there. Not just someone, another werewolf. And it was the same one. Something was up! He thought out loud.

“Why don’t we try to catch up with Laila and the other wolf? it’s obvious they just left”. Said Logan. Logan was a young werewolf. He had just become part of the pack and was still learning a lot. But he was a smart kid. “Let’s go” Damon ordered. The pack drove away, trying to catch up to Adam and Laura. All through the drive, Damon pondered on the reason why another wolf was with Laila. “Could he have known Laila before the council sent him to get her? Or was this another angle the council was playing at? Questions without answers in his mind.

Although far ahead in Adam’s car, Laila pushed aside every one of his attempts to speak with her. He tried starting a conversation as much as he could, but she blatantly ignored him. “Why don’t we stop to get something to eat?” he asked. She tried to turn away and not answer but she did anyway.“You called me many times, my life wasn’t threatened by anything, I was fine, Elena was alive”, she burst out in tears. Trying to catch her breath, “Ho-how do you expect me to deal with that?” “And you say you’re here to protect me?” “From you?” She was in tears… Adam grinned “You’d thank me once you understand”. He went out of the car and pulled her out. “It’s time to eat”, he said smiling. She followed him in, but this time, she’d make sure he didn’t follow her out or anything.
