Planning

Micah, Loki, Xavier, and Emery made it back to the pack house in record time, it had taken them around 5 hours to jog to the fence where Micah found his mate, though they made it back in 3 hours running at full speed.

The boys shifted and changed into the shorts they kept at the tree line by the house, Emery huffed in annoyance at them, clearly not happy at being dragged home at full speed to find the place still standing with no dead bodies hanging from the trees. She would understand when Xavier filled her in properly later, but first Micah needed to tell them what was going on.

He lead them into the house, sweaty and panting, fighting the mate bond and his wolf both were screaming that he was much too far from his mate right now and anything could happen to her.

‘We have to go get her! We have to protect her’ Zander was howling in his head, ‘we can’t get her on our own, idiot, now stop fucking howling at me and let me deal with this!’ Micah shot back.

Giving a single knock on the office door Micah pushed it open. Both his mother, Melody, a tall, svelte blonde with blue eyes, high cheekbones, the typical wolf perfect complexion, thin lips and a straight and central nose. Micah had always thought his mother to be the archetype of female beauty, until he laid eyes on his mate. Now she, and no other woman would ever compare again.

And his father, an older man with salt and pepper hair, shining grey eyes, a well toned, fight ready body, he may be stepping down as alpha but he was ready to jump into any battle along side his sons and hold his own. Rowan ward had a face that you wouldn’t look twice at while walking down the street, and that had come in handy many times in the past, he also had the sharpest mind Micah had ever met, were in the office.

Micah knew that they would understand the urgency and that between them, he, his beta and his family would be able to formulate a plan to get his mate on the right side of that god damned fence. His shoulders sagged at the realisation. He would soon have his mate and be able to explain everything to her.

“Father, mother” he said, nodding to his father in greeting and kissing his mothers cheek.

“I need your help” Micah continued before anyone else in the room could give their own greetings. His brother moved silently around him to kiss their mothers cheek too while his beta bowed respectfully and settled in a seat in the corner.

“I found my mate” and before Micah could continue any further, everyone had their own questions which, apparently needed immediate answers. Micah growled at them, his still growing alpha power startling them all into silence.

It was good enough for now, “we went for a run, out into the forest on the path south, we ran for about 5 hours when I picked up her scent”

Micahs eyes unfocused for a few moments as the memory of her scent took him over, giving a small shake of the head, he carried on as if he hadn’t stopped “so I followed it, as you would, but my path was blocked by a fence. I could smell humans around her too so I couldn’t shift. But she came to me. She looked to be about 15 or so, she’s not a wolf but she’s not human either, I don’t know what she is, Zander doesn’t either. We don’t know if she even knows she’s not human. I don’t know, obviously how a mate bond will work for her, but I’m certain she could sense me somehow.”

It’s unusual for an alpha to come across a creature his wolf can’t identify, usually their wolves are old, powerful ones, with lots of experience. “She’s called Ashlyn, at-least that what one of the humans inside the fence called her, I don’t know her surname. "

"She’s the most beautiful red head I’ve ever laid eyes on. But she only saw my wolf. She wasn’t even that scared to begin with, until I tried to mind link her, I didn’t think she’d hear me, being so young and not a wolf but she did, dad she heard me. If I knew she could hear I wouldn’t have done it, I wouldn’t have risked it, but I just had to try and tell her I’d go back for her. She begged someone not to touch her as I left, but I couldn’t exactly camp out there at the fence, the humans would ask questions. So we left and hot footed it back here, sorry for the smell by the way.”

There was silence in the room for a long few minutes after Micah finished speaking, he eventually broke it with “well? Someone say something?! What do we do now?”

Melody had tears in her eyes, her face was pale, she shook her head as she set off for the door, no one was quite sure what had affected her so much but they figured that Rowan, her mate, would be able to figure it out later.

Loki was grinning, he clapped his brother on the back as they embraced and he congratulated Micah. Loki was just about to turn 17 and would start the search himself very soon, he had seen his brother go through years of anguish as he searched fruitlessly, only to nearly give up all together. His happiness for his brother was as genuine as if he had found his own mate today. Xavier was grinning, waiting for his turn to congratulate his Alpha and best friend.

Rowan had his head in his hands on the desk, he had been suspecting and dreading something like this. “Boys, you all need to go and shower, then we can make a plan. But son, you have to realise there are many in the pack who may not accept this girl, if we manage to get her, when we learn what she is. Your mother will not like it. She always wanted you both mated with good, strong, respectable wolves.”

Loki and Micah both huffed but it was Micah who replied “Mother will come around, she knows that we don’t get to choose our mates, the goddess chooses the person who is perfect for us…. Ashlyn is my only hope of being able to run this pack properly, and if the goddess has chosen this girl for me, then I owe it to them both to do my best to make it work” he says with a shrug and smile.

Before heading for the door. “So shall we say an hour to shower and eat?” But it was clear it was not open for discussion. The boys all left to their respective bathrooms while the wolves currently on duty in the kitchen began preparing to feed them, despite the fact that it was now nearly tea time.

Micah could see no problems that couldn’t be overcome, just as soon as he had his mate with him. Their pups would still be wolves, they would be just as strong as if his mate was a wolf. And with his mark, she would get the longevity of a wolf if her species didn’t already have that trait.
