CHAPTER 6 Asking Her Out

Annie

I can't believe Brent asked me out on a date! It made me so happy. No one ever takes me out because they think I am dorky looking. And it's all thanks to those glasses. Or maybe I was just ugly? I don't know.

I was shocked when he asked me during lunch though. I couldn't say anything for the first few minutes.

"Annie? Were you listening? So...do you want to go to the movies or not?" Brent asked again.

"Ah...um...I..." I started to mumble. My face was turning red. Ugh! Why am I so awkward?

"Is that a no?" Brent raised his eyebrows.

NOOOO! I was blowing it!

"No! I mean yes! I would love to," I said eagerly.

"Great then. I will pick you up on Saturday," Brent smiled.

"O..okay," I said.

After school was over, Brent offered to walk me home but I had to refuse. Evan wanted me to come clean his room, so I had to go to his house. But I couldn't tell Brent that. Evan was always making me do stuff like that. When will this nightmare end?

I hoped he wasn't too mad about me not coming to have lunch with him. I bet he was. God knows what he will do to me once he finds out I was with Brent.

But...surprisingly enough, he wasn't mad. He kept asking me about Brent. And when I told him, he took it surprisingly well. On top of that, he was feeding me!

That was the weird thing about Evan. He was always being mean to me and insulting me, but at the same time, he brought me lunch, which was strangely sweet of him. He always complained about how I didn't eat enough. I asked him about it one day and all he said to me was, "I hate skinny bitches." I mean, what the hell?

He made me sit at the table and eat lunch. The food was delicious, so I didn't complain.

"So what do you like about squirrel face?" Evan asked while I was eating.

"Um...I think he is cute," I said honestly.

"He..looks..like..a squirrel," Evan spelled it out for me. Why does he have to be mean to everyone?

"No, he doesn't!" I protested.

"Well then you have terrible taste in men," Evan commented.

"No, I don't! Otherwise, I would be dating you!" I blurted out. Oops...I just insulted him. I am dead.

Evan stared at me intently. His blue eyes were glowing. Was he mad? I couldn't tell.

"Was that a comeback?" He loomed over me. I got nervous and dropped my fork on the plate.

"N...no it wasn't," I stammered.

"What's wrong with me, huh? Think I am not good enough for you?" Evan challenged.

"That's not what I meant. I am sorry," I said, and looked down.

He stared me down for a few more seconds then patted me on the head. "Don't worry about it. I'll forgive you for now. How was the food?" he asked.

"It...it was good," I still couldn't believe he was letting me off the hook.

"Want some more?" he asked. His voice was surprisingly gentle. What was up with him today?

"No, I am okay," I said quietly.

"Okay. You can leave," he said.

Oh thank god, I couldn't survive one more second sitting in front of him. I had to get out of here!

"And by the way," he stopped me before I made it out the door. "You are going to report to me about your date. Down to the last detail," he said.

"Huh? But why?" I asked.

"Don't ask me questions, just do as I say," he barked.

I left without saying anything. Who does he think he is ordering me around like this? So damn bossy!
