Chapter 1 Bad day
Brandon
I knew today would be a bad day when my car wouldn't start and I had to call the insurance company to toil it, it took more than a few hours of my time because I had never expected the car to suddenly stop working. Because I was the only one in my mansion currently, my wife had gone for some business show which she mentioned would take up to a week. She had left since yesterday morning and now I had to wait for the insurance service to arrive before leaving the house and going in another car. Even though I knew I could call my assistant and let him take charge of this, I felt like I had to do it myself.
"We are in your estates already, Mr. Marshall. We apologize for the inconvenience." a grim and professional voice said to me on the phone after I contacted the insurance services again.
I furrowed my brows in displeasure as I ended the call, I didn't need his apology, I only needed him to get his ass here and toil the car away so I can be on my way. I have a 10" o'clock flight to book and I was already running later than expected.
Scrolling through my phone, I dialed my P. A phone number to ask about my schedule and also if there's a way I could cover today"s flight if I couldn't make it.
"Your next meeting is with Mr. Moore, about the renovation of the center region. Mr. Moore also wants to be the co-founder of the new investment. " My P. A explained and I frowned upon listening to his words.
"My father wants to be a co-founder? Why didn't he ask me directly? I wouldn't refuse him, so why is he going through such lengths?" I asked My P. A, but he couldn't give a definite answer. But I didn't blame him, I also couldn't figure out what was going on in my father's mind.
Most of the time, I would think I've figured him out and know everything about him, but then he will show me another behavior that would completely shock me out of my wits.
"Reschedule my flight and bring my father"s applications to me. Let me go through it." I asserted in a strained voice before ending the call.
Even though I had grown up and was raised by my father, we just somehow don"t click and he always has different opinions and views, so we don't really have anything in common aside from our physical features. If not because of that, I would have doubted the fact that we are related.
It didn't take long when I heard car honks, and I raised my head up to see the toiling trunk of the insurance service.
'About time," I muttered under my breath as a middle-aged man alighted from the car with a fake smile plastered on his face as he approached me.
"Mr. Moore, I apologized for the inconvenience. The call was urgent, so I had -
I didn't allow him to finish his words before I raised my eyes coldly at him and he coughed out his embarrassment.
"It was my fault," he replied, before trapping the car keys from my outstretched hands.
"It suddenly developed a fault this morning and it wouldn't start." I said to the middle-aged man he went to check the car out.
"I will have to take it back, " he replied and I nodded my head in compliance.
"You can bring it back anytime or just auction it out." I replied, changing my stance to read on my other leg. I had been waiting outside the garage for the insurance service for more than an hour.
"Alright. Mr. Moore, I will give you a reply." he responded before giving me another fake smile but I just turned around and left him and his companion alone as they toiled the car out of the garage.
Watching them leave with my new Mercedes, I had a mixed feeling about them taking it away because it had been my treasured baby for almost two months now. Apart from my lovely wife, I didn't feel attached to anything or anyone else, not even my own father.
I had forgotten all about my flight and any other schedule today after my car developed a fault and my P. A told me that my next schedule was with my father even though I didn't know why he had to go through legal means to be the co-founder of my project. Realizing I had nothing to do with my time and day, I suddenly missed my wife and my heart raced at the thought of her.
Our marriage was an unusual one and I had never thought I would be getting married to her because she was a few years younger than me. She had been my secretary and we had fallen in love with each other but then, my father had insisted that we can't marry each other but after a few weeks, he suddenly changed his mind and he allowed us to start planning the engagement.
I had no idea what made him change his mind that year but I didn't care because I had already intended to marry Lilian even though my father didn't agree with our marriage. While growing up, I never for once disobeyed him and I"ve always listened to his commands because hesymy father even though we had different ideas and opinions. Most of the time, I let his wish overrule mine and just give in to him.
I was heading to the refrigerator after staring at my wedding picture when I heard a rapid knock on my door. Looking at the CCTV camera in the sitting room, I realized that it was my P.A and I pressed the unlock button from the inside. There's also an unlock button from the outside in case there's no one home but no one knows about this apart from me and my wife.
"These are the documents, sir." My P.A presented a brown envelope file to me and a frown formed on my face.
"Who brought this exactly? My father?" I asked in a cold voice after reading the content and my P.A nodded.
"I had forgotten to tell you about it a few days ago. He had also asked someone to check the building out which was totally not in line with the agreement of contact of a co-founder." My P. A added, showing me some photographs of my father and some men at the building I was renovating.
"Since he wanted to be a co-founder, why isn't he following the strict procedures? If others find out about it, they will think I'm partial about the contract. This is a personal business and not our family business." I let out in a calm but strict voice. I was already tired of my father"s misconduct.
"Have you filed this yet?" I asked my P.A and he shook his head.
"No sir, I haven't. I was thinking you would be going to Italy today and when you come back, I will tell you about this." he replied and I frowned upon listening to his words.
"When did he bring this?" I asked, rating a brow at him.
"A few days ago,"
"Then why am I just learning about it?"
"I thought you-
"Is that an excuse? Are you also working for my father? Have you forgotten whose company is paying your monthly salary?" I asserted in a strict, cold voice and he instantly hung his head in embarrassment.
If I had left for Italy today, I might not have learned about this.
"It"s not your fault. You can go back to the office." I dismissed him coldly and he left after apologizing but I wasn't interested in his apology.
These days, I don't even know if my staff are mine or my father"s. I felt like his hand had extended to my staff and they were all under him and not me, their employer.
Going through the documents again, I couldn't believe the arrangement and the interpretation of the contract. My father wanted to be the primary founder of my investment. My own building?
What the hell does the man think with his head? I thought as I read through the contract.
No, I had to see him.
It's not possible for him to just think he can do everything he wants because I always listen to him, I am a filial and obedient son doesn't mean that I am a stupid one. Grabbing my sport car keys, I left for the garage and ignited the car, and instantly drove the long distance between my house and my father's house.
My father was living alone in his mansion and I had expected him to be at home. He works from home most of the time and I didn't call him to tell him I was coming because he might leave the house before I got there.
When I got to my father's house and saw his case, I was instantly relieved that I met him at home. But what I saw after his door was opened was beyond me.
