Chapter 2

It had been eight months since he entered into coma. Four months since his beloved wife Brielle visited last. Her family had really taken her away, but how could they? She had his child with her and must have delivered already.

It was two months ago that Lucas came to his ward. “Grandmother committed suicide.” He sobbed on his Uncle Domi’s chest.

No words could trigger Dominic more those words.

That was how his own father had died, after his mother was murdered by assassin. He couldn’t think of any other reason to live since his wife was gone, his son wasn’t a good enough reason.

Just like Lucas wasn’t a good enough reason for his grandma to hold unto life. It seemed it was in their blood, his father’s and grandmother’s, to kill themselves instead of holding on. And why kill herself when he was only in a coma, he’d still survive.

“Grandfather said he’d find a family to send me to. I hope the family have young children like me so I won’t get bullied.” Lucas had sighed.

He had to talk to someone. The nurse had said his uncle Domi wasn’t dead and could hear him, it was comforting at the least.

Dominic didn’t like hearing of problems that he knew he could solve with just snapping out of the prison he was in, but he couldn’t.

It had been one year, three months since he last slipped into a coma. Dominic had been mourning, the death of his grandmother. The disappearance and possible death of his grandfather, and his six year old cousin, Lucas, being alone in he world.

His parents died in a car crash one year.

“Lucas, your uncle Domi swore to protect you and take care of you, don’t cry, okay?” he had promised.

He fulfilled that promise till a year and three months back when he went on that road trip and returned to him in an ambulance, immobile.

The nurses taking care of him gossiped a lot.

“In a few years, they’d be no money to pay for his hospital bills. I wonder what we’d do with him.” One chattered.

“Ahh, such a pity.” The other concurred.

Dominic was lost for words? No money to pay his bills? And why was that? Thales group had enough money till the third generation.

All the lingering questions in his head, none could answer.

It had been two years, and eight months. All Dominic could hear is silence. Excoriating, tormenting silence.

Three months back, Lucas had come to him.

“Uncle Domi, guess what?” that was the first time he had spoken with so much happiness since he started visiting Dominic.

“I saw Auntie Brielle and two twin boys! They look just like you but they have Auntie’s eyes.” Lucas giggled.

Dominic had smiled in his heart that his sons were born and Brielle was safe but then Lucas added that he had been adopted into an Italian family and had to learn Italian.

And the last bombshell he dropped, sent Dominic to a state of shock.

“Uncle Domi, the news said Thales group lost eighty-five percent of our worth in a failed business. I think that’s why grandma committed suicide. And now, grandfather had disappeared.”

The Young master had no more reason to keep on living. His family had been ruined. Only shame and poverty awaited him when he breaks out of the coma.

It is three years, and two days since young master Dominic Thales slipped into coma and it was time to slip out.

Last week, he heard from the nurses that came to clean him up.

“Is it weird how Allen group is suddenly the head of new groups in just three years?”

“Yes, their rise to fame is very suspicious. Someone said they forced their daughter, who was married to young master Dominic Thales, to withdraw a good amount of money from the Thales group account and that’s what assisted the fall of Thales group.”

“That’s wickedness. Now there’s no other Thales family to stand against such injustice. This one was vegetable.” They sighed.

Dominic felt hate surging through his body. He was not vegetable.

He forced his nerves, his will power, his all and wriggled his fingers. No one would be around to see it anyway. They lost hope on him and was only waiting for the deposit for his medication to be over then they’d kill him, possibly.

But he had the perseverance and urge to fight back. His in-laws think they could insult and deride him behind his back, as well as force their opinion on his wife and take away his sons? They were wrong. He’d be the strongest he could be.

It had been three years, one week since young master Dominic Thales slipped into coma and he had finally slipped out.

This was the second day of the second week. The nurses were feeding cooked food for him to get his strength back.

“Eat up Young master Dominic. You need your strength.” They chided him, serving him hot delicious food.

It was a miracle to them when he finally spoke. He fought hard enough to move, then fought harder to speak.

The taste of cooked food on his tongue felt like a luxury he wasn’t supposed to attain, due to long times of no warmth.

“Thank you.” He said to them. He was back to the land of the conscious. And he’d rule the land, like he once did, only that he’d be stricter and keep very few friends. None of his friends had visited during his days in coma.

Silas had informed him of his return to Africa to start up another tech empire, he could forgive him but every other one only stuck close because he was the billionaire heir to the Thales group.

He was a nothing now but not for long.

It took him three more weeks, a total of three years and a month to officially be slipped out of coma. The remaining cost that hadn’t been spent on medication only amounted to $5000. Which meant that if he hadn’t woken up, he may have been disconnected from the machines keeping him alive while in coma.

“I am really lucky to be alive.” He said to himself as he took a cab to the Thales Mansion. But when he got there he realized that it belonged to a hotel. It had been sold.

He stood in front of the already renovated house he spent most of his years in. Does this mean he had no home? Where did the money paid for buying the house go to?

Of course, it all went to Thales group account which Brielle would have withdrawn. It was a custom, every member of the Thales family knew the pins to the banks incase of emergency. This had been used against them now.

There was nothing left, the company building was under lock and key and there was no one he could call.

Turning around to look for a motel to lodge in, Dominic sighted a familiar car driving in his direction.

He turned around, hiding his face. He was unrecognizable anyway with his badly shaven beard and very lean body. No one would believe he was the young master Dominic Thales. The car drove past without stop and was heading to an open place where some people rioted.

“Pay your workers! Pay up, Allen Group! Pay your workers!” the people raised placards and sticks. It was still a peaceful protest, no one was attacking any one.

Until, the driver of the car stepped out and there was a chill air in the environment. It was a master Allen, leader of the Allen group.

The people didn’t dare to speak under his intense glare.

“Now! Arrest them! Beat them up!” master Allen commanded and the officers standing around the protesters dived down and began attacking them.

Dominic hid behind a bill board watching this. It was unfair. Allen group had amazing wealth at the expense of their workers and still bullied them. Something had to change.
