Chapter 3 continuation
As I chased after the cars I suddenly noticed something in the hand of the passenger in the first car. It was a large black remote. He pointed it out the window and pressed the big red button on it. The car behind it blew up a second after the button was pushed, stopping me in my tracks because it was close to me. The explosion catapulted the car into the air covered in flames, pieces flying off it in all directions.
The door had flown off the car in my direction and I quickly jumped out of the way, trying to avoid it. It landed close to my legs covered in flames with a loud bang, but luckily didn’t injure me. Some of my pack weren’t so lucky. There were a few that had been injured by the shrapnel and the explosion, but the rest that could keep moving didn’t let up on the chase.
I looked up in time to see the other two cars cross my territory with some of my men still chasing after them, before they were forced to stop at the end of our territory. I snarled in frustration to them getting away, but knew if I ever saw that smirking SOB again I would rip him to pieces.
A car was waiting for me at the edge of the forest. I shifted and entered the car, tugging on a pair of shorts that were kept in the passenger seat. I slammed on the accelerator, clutching the wheel until my knuckles turned white from the strain of my rage. I was beyond mad. I hated the way that man had been smirking at me as he had hit that button. He’d come prepared to get away.
Egan informed me through the pack link that the car that had been blown had had two men in it that were known to be rouges by some of the members in my pack.
This guy was crazy. He killed two of his own men. I had already asked some of my pack to alert the nearby Alpha about their approach into his lands, so at least he would know they were coming.
I looked down at the speedometer of the car and realized I was pushing it to its full speed. I needed to calm down. I looked up, taking in a deep breath and saw that I was going past the pack’s graveyard. I slammed on the brakes and hopped out. I walked through the graveyard with purpose, searching for my mother’s headstone. Once I found it I sat down and tried to take in calming breaths. She always knew how to calm me down.
She’d died when rogues had attacked the pack a couple of years ago. Terence’s parents had been killed during the same attack. It had been hard on the both of us.
When my breathing had finally returned to normal I got up to me feet. I spotted my grandmother’s headstone to the left of my mother’s and sighed. She had killed herself only last month, putting a knife in her throat. She’d come to see me on the day my father had handed me the title of Alpha. She told me that she was sad that Templar had left our pack and I had to search for her and get her back no matter what it took. She’d also given me the silver chain she always wore around her neck and made me promise to give it to my mate.
She’d been completely normal after leaving the pack that day, so her suicide had been a shock. She hadn’t left a note, but her will had said that all her property was to be given to my mate. She had planned it all out before she took her life.
I really miss her. After my mother’s death, my grandmother became more like a mother to me.
I said my goodbyes to them and left the graveyard. As I placed my hand on the handle of my car to get in, Egan’s voice came through the pack link edged with worry.
‘Alpha another scent found,’ Egan said.
What is this? Rouge visiting day? I growled.
‘At least stop this bunch before they cross the territory,’ I ordered all the pack members through the link, using my Alpha tone. ‘And Terence you better come,’ I snapped to him specifically.
‘Alpha, the smell is mixed,’ Sam, another pack member said in confusion.
‘What do you mean mixed?’ I was getting tired of this. It was barely eight in the morning.
‘There are different scents,’ Egan explained.
‘Please don’t tell me it’s sweet,’ I snarled. What is wrong with my pack today?
‘No Alpha,’ He replied.
‘Where is it heading?’ I asked, stepping back from my car and shifted quickly into my wolf.
‘To the south,’ Sam said.
‘Who is following it?’ I asked and headed towards the south.
There was no reply.
‘I’m asking for the last time, who is following it?’ I followed my words up with a growl through the link.
‘Err…. Alpha, the smell is on a crowded street. There are humans everywhere,’ Sam answered with a shaky voice.
See, what I mean about having power?
‘Follow it then,’ I snapped.
‘Actually Alpha. It is on a bus filled with humans. And the bus is heading towards the south,’ Egan said.
‘What?’ I growled at them. I was pissed off at everyone now.
A rogue mixing with human’s meant we couldn’t just go in and attack them. It was a smartly planned move.
‘I don’t care. Stop that bus! I want that rogue!’ I yelled at them.
‘Alpha the bus has crossed our territory,’ Sam said softly.
‘I wanted you all to stop the bus,’ I retorted and hit a nearby tree, not concentrating on where I was going.
‘Alpha the bus was close to the border when we recognized what the scent was. You had blocked us out and Terence was not replying.’
‘What about Egan?” I asked. What’s the use now? Bullshit.
‘Sorry Alpha, I was distracted. I felt like one of scents was familiar,’ Egan answered in worry.
‘What do you mean familiar?’ I asked him.
‘One human scent. It was like I knew it. I can’t figure it out, but I feel like I know that scent,’ he said thoughtfully.
‘Pervert, you have a mate,’ Terence said.
‘My office in 10 minutes,’ I said through a growl to Terence. I really needed to kick his ass for his stupidity.
‘Yeah, yeah,’ he muttered sheepishly.
‘Whatever,’ I mumbled and made my way towards my house, shaking off the leaves and bark that had fallen into my fur.
We had lost the rouge due to the awesomeness of my pack, but I made sure that the nearby Alpha would be informed. Familiar scent my ass.
