CHAPTER 2
I was deep into sleep when I heard a noise from outside my room. I wanted to ignore the noise but, the noise became noises and they grew louder.
I pushed my 8-year old body off the bed, I slipped my little feet into my tiny flip flop and allowed them take me towards the noise.
My hand reached for the door knob and I was pushing it slightly to peek into the living room. Nothing. Just darkness and stillness.
I was about to turn back to get on my bed when I began to hear the noise again. I decided against it but, my curiosity won anyways. Walking out of my room and into the living room, I looked around for any hint of where the sound came from.
"Mom? Dad?" My little high-pitched voice called out in the darkness, fear gripping my entire being.
The noise began again and I walked towards the sound but, instead of a ghost to appear like I had expected, the living room light flicks on and a loud shoot echoes, above my head, spraying confetti down my body.
My heart pounded against my chest but, slowed in its pace when my mom and dad began to sing an 'happy birthday' song to me in unison.
My lips spread in a wide smile as I looked around to access the decoration.
The wide, luxurious living room had ballons and ribbons of different colors dangling from the ceiling. There was a neon sign attached to the wall that read 'Happy 9th Birthday, Maelys'.
My mom held the multicolored cake with nine candles on it, steady on her palm as she gleefully sang the song and dad had a toy gun that he had used to shoot the confetti on my head as he sang along with my mom.
After they finished singing, mom held the cake to me and asked me to blow it and make a wish.
A wide smile lingered on my lips as I closed my eyes and blew onto the candles, killing the fire all at once. Only one wish echoed in my head as I blew.
"Moon Goddess, I wish for my family to remain happy like this, forever."
My parent pestered me that night to tell them what I wished for but, I refused promising to say it when I was eighteen and had found my mate and we were still the happy family I had wished for but, that day never came.
Because, I'm eighteen now and my life is a complete opposite of what I had wished for - messy, sad and sorrowful - mom died before I could blink and dad got married to another woman, abandoning me and forgetting I ever existed.
We seperated for years and when I came back to him, he was already the Alpha of his pack, married to another woman - the woman his parent had always wanted for him - and he lied to his pack that I was a child he had from a one-night-stand so as to keep his reputation.
My fist clenched as I made it through the forest, to my pack house. The cold night breeze kissed my skin, making me shiver and run my hand over my body.
Today was a shitty day as predicted, from having that nightmare to facing Beverly and her sad excuse of friends.
Cheers to more shitty days!
My leg marched the twigs as I walked further into the forest. There were so many twigs and branches in my pack house territory and because of that the sole of my sneakers was a tattered mess, making me fit to the Omega narrative even more.
A sigh of heavy relief slipped through me as I pulled up to my side of the pack house. They were so many beautiful houses in the pack house - the main pack house standing tall and elegant amongst them all - but, for the Omegas it was like a poultry, a farm house. Actually, it was once a farm house but, was turned to an house for the Omegas when rumor started spreading around the werewolf world that our pack left Omegas to sleep on the street and die in the winter.
The house was a duplex with rusty, old roofs. It was always tragedic for us whenever it rained because, the rain licks through the roof and our house becomes a flooded mess.
My legs walked past the beautiful houses to the old farm house and the rusted door made a noisy creak as I pushed it open, letting myself in. It was quiet and dark and I wondered if Xavier had gone to sleep. He was the only Omega child, his mother who was also an omega passed while giving birth to him - the other omegas were adults and they probably hadn't returned from their various places of work.
"Xavier." I called out, climbing up the wooden stairs to the rooms on the first floor.
"Xavier!" I called out again, louder, growing nervous each passing second.
I went to his room and threw the door open. A loud gasp escapes my throat when my eyes landed on Xavier small figure laying breathlessly on the cold floor.
His face was bruised with fresh wounds. I quickly scrouched low and scooped him into my hand.
Oh, not again!
I thought it had stopped when it didn't happen for a month. I thought they weren't going to appear again. My heart sank as I watched Xavier grunt in pain.
The wolves in the pack often stops by our house and does a number of beating on anyone they found here. We had reported the case to the Alpha - my socalled dad - and he promised to stop it but, there was no progress. When they didn't appear for the past one month, I thought he had did. But, they were back! He didn't even give a fuck if I get murdered in the process.
Is he even my father?
I took Xavier in my arm, carrying him in bridal style, and walked to the living room, to get his wound treated.
Xavier was a wolf and he had an healing gift in him as one. But, because he was still so young, they don't kick till after a while and sometimes don't even come at all, leaving his body in bruises and scars.
I fished out the first aid box and tended to his wounds, wrapping a bandage around his arm when I realized they broke his elbow.
When I was finished, I tucked him to sleep. The other adults were already back by that time and I heard them whispering to each other in their room across the passage. I didn't like eavesdropping, it wasn't an habit of mine but, I found myself leaning in to listen when I heard something about the Alpha.
"Someone said the Alpha plans to sell us before the pack's anniversary celebration."
One of them whispered.
"Its already five years since the last sale?"
The other added in an anxious tone.
"Its not. The buyer wants to buy us earlier than planned."
I heard another voice whisper and I realized they weren't two but, three.
"I heard its the Alpha King. Alpha is going to make good cash. Use it for their pack's anniversary celebration."
The Alpha King?
The Alpha King wants to buy us?
The ruthless and fearful Alpha King?
