Chapter 7

Jake's POV

“Is there some you want to tell me?” I asked in a cranky voice, almost stammering.

“No…. N… no.” She stuttered, making my suspension more right.

It would be wrong for me to force words from her, especially in her condition. So, I decided to let go of it.

“She would come around.” I consoled myself with it.

I gently stroked her hand but was interrupted by the beeping of my phone. Furthermore, I brought it out of my pocket and looked at the message; it was an alert of $500.

“Okay. I need to go sort out the bills.” I said, got up and exited the ward without waiting for a response.

When I got to the reception, I handed my card to the nurse.

“How much is the bill?” I asked in a low tone and a weird smile that spread fast across my face.

“$210, sir.” She responded with a tired smile and put the card in the machine.

I entered my pin and was given a receipt.

“Thanks.” I said and went to the doctor's office.

I knocked gently on the door.

“Come on in.” A voice pierced through the door.

I grabbed the knob, opened the door and walked further into the office.

“Good afternoon, doctor.” I said, pulling out a seat for myself, and sat down.

“Welcome, sir. How may I help you?”

“It's about the pregnant woman in ward 32A. Can she be discharged soon? Like today?”

“Why would you want that?” He asked, followed by a frown on his face.

“We have to leave...... As soon as possible. Please.”

“Well, if that be the case. She can be discharged today, but you have to make sure that she gets enough rest. She needs it seriously.” He gave me a stern warning with a stern look.

“Sure! I will make sure of that.”

“I'll prepare the form then. She should be ready to go in about ten to fifteen minutes.”

I slightly got up and shook hands with the doctor.

“Thank you.” I said and exited the office.

I went back to the ward, Olivia was half asleep; she sleepily tilted her head toward my director as she heard the door creep open.

“We have to leave soon. We can't risk your Alpha finding us here again.” I said at a fast pace as I walked further into the ward.

“Alpha Kaye is dead and the Pack members won't be on our tail for a while. They would be mourning.”

“Aren't they supposed to be mourning when they came after us again?” I took a break, stared deep into her eyes while I leaned again the chair. “The baby you carry now is their future. Alpha Kaye is dead, making him the past. Won't you concentrate more on the future if you were in their shoes?” I asked bluntly, making sure she didn't ignore the eyes contact.

“Fine!” She huffed in surrender. “Are we now running away from a hospital now?” She sassed.

“The doctor agreed to discharge you.”

“You always know your way around all these things.” She mumbled inaudibly as she tried to get out of bed.

I turned to her, “Pardon?” I asked with a brow asked.

“It's nothing.” She snapped and we both existed the ward.

To feel good, I blamed her saucy attitudes on pregnancy hormones. I signed the discharge form and we left the hospital.

“My house is just a few blocks away. We should be able to get a taxi from here.” I said when we got to the express.

In response, she pouted her lips and rolled her eyes to the other end. I huffed softly and ignored her. I was able to flag down a taxi for us, but she did the unthinkable.

“I'll seat in the front, with the driver.” She said firm, tried to open the door, but I slammed it back.

“What?”

“You have a problem with that?” She growled, revealing her sharp teeth to me as a threat.

She might be saucy, but a side of her I would rather not see is get in a fight with her.

“No!” I said in a low voice and let go of the door.

She got in the front while I sat in the back and the drive started.

After about twenty minutes, the taxi pulled over in front of my house, and we stepped out of the car.

I paid the driver with my card and ran up to Olivia, who was just heading towards the house as if she knows her way around it.

“Have you been here before?” I asked, confused, she stopped and turned to me.

“There's nothing special about your house, is it?” She snapped and made to leave, but I grabbed her by the arm.

“What is all of this about? Why are you acting all weird? Did is do or say something wrong?” My voice filled with emotions while my grip on her arm was still tight.

“You're hurting me, Jake.” She wriggled her arm out and headed to the door.

I went to her, opened the door and we walked in. I poked my head out to see if anything was peculiar in the streets. Luckily, it is as calm as always.

I walked further into the house and Olivia was seated on the couch.

“Would you like anything to eat?” I asked in a low and sweet tone, in order not to upset her.

“Nothing. I'll just go to bed.”

I raced to her and stopped her.

“Okay, Olivia. Enough of playing hard. I know there's something you want to tell me. I saw it in your eyes at the hospital. You can tell me, rather than behaving this way to me.”

“You would like to know?” She asked slowly with each step she took closer to me. Her baby bump was the only thing stopping us from getting closer.

“Yes, I want to.”

“How were you once a member of the Pack? Who are you, Jake? Why are you helping me?”
