The Letter From My Father

I looked up at the sky, after my tears subsided. It seems, this time it's the sky's turn to cry. Even though the weather was very sunny.

After putting daisies on my mother's tombstone, I chose to go straight home before the rain really started. I'm trying to be strong, no matter what, I have no choice but to try to live life even though now I have to be alone.

Just as I got home. Jonathan called me, I don't know what else he wants to ask today.

"Hello Lea, are you home?"

"Yes I'm home, how was your study?"

"I just arrived at my dorm, earlier for some reason, I felt you cry. It makes me nervous." I was speechless, how did Jo know I was crying? I don't understand why Jo cares so much for me? Even when he's far away, I can still feel his love and care.

Right now, I don't know what to do. I'm confused, can Jonathan be calm by telling me what I just experienced? it would only make him angry.

"Lea, are you crying?" Ask Joe.

I tried not to make a sound, but apparently, he still knew that I was crying.

"Joe, what should I do?" I said, my chest tight.

"What's wrong, Lea? Tell me, what happened?"

"I was kicked out of school."

"What? Why?"

"Because I didn't come for three weeks, the principal kicked me out,"

"Really? Didn't you already get permission?" Yes, as I expected, Joe was furious.

"I don't know," I said. This problem is making my head spin.

"Is this the doing of that classmate who is always bothering you? Eveline Haller, was she the one who asked to get you kicked out of school?"

"I don't know, I don't know, although I think she's been wanting me out of that school for a long time,"

"How are your friends? No one defended you?"

"No, never mind, Joe. I don't want to discuss that matter, maybe I should just move to another school,"

"Are you sure? I will ask my mom to come to your school,"

"No, Joe. I don't want Auntie to get involved. Come on, I'm fine. You don't need to worry."

"How can I not worry? You're crying like that. I feel so pissed off!"

"Thank You,"

"You don't need to thank me, now the most important thing is to take care of your health and don't think too much. Everything will be fine. Don't ever think that you are alone, there is still me, my father and mother too,"

"When my grandma died, I was very scared because I was alone. But, every day I always get support from you, from Uncle and Aunty, I'm really grateful,"

"Lea, you only need to believe in one thing. One day, the tears that flowed from your eyes today will be replaced with smiles of happiness. One day, you won't be lonely anymore, there will be someone who loves and cares for you, believe me?"

"Yes, I believe," I answered him in a trembling voice, my tears couldn't stop flowing. I feel the strength that will keep me going through this grief.

After talking to Jo on the phone, my heart felt lighter. Turns out, I just needed to cry and take out all the burdens in my heart.

After soaking in the bath, it makes me excited again to practice. I'm looking for a videotape of my mother's violin recital, maybe I can learn the technique you do, why she's so great.

"Where did grandma keep it?" I muttered as I unpacked the chest containing the video and my mother's relics. Grandma said, my mother always kept the things she liked most in this chest, including videos of competitions and recitals that she had done.

"Here you are," I found a box filled with some old videotapes that my mother had kept very neatly.

I played the videotape while she performed the song by Niccolo Paganini - Caprice No 24 in a very cool way.

"She is really great." I was amazed. I didn't expect that she was so beautiful and also talented. My father must be very lucky to have got a woman as great as her.

"Okay with this, I'm excited to practice. Let's see another video too, huh? What box is this?"

I saw a small box delivered video tapes. Out of curiosity, I immediately opened it.

"Pendant?" A gold heart-shaped pendant necklace that matched the exact one Damien Lachance had shown

I can't believe it, turns out my mother kept it in a place like this. My heart fluttered, remembering Damien's words that this thing was very valuable. Even though what I saw, was just a normal pendant necklace, not even a diamond cut at all. So, what makes this pendant so important?

Besides the locket, there was a blue envelope containing a handwritten letter, "Is this a letter from my dad?" I thought.

Dear Marina

It's really funny that I'm writing a letter like this, considering that we usually exchange messages by e-mail. However, I've realized that a handwritten letter might be more memorable. I want you to keep this letter.

How are you ? How's your father and mother? Are you guys healthy? How's my little girl? Has she entered kindergarten? I really miss her. Do you know ? Every time I fall asleep, I always see Lea in my dreams. She is very beautiful like you.

I'm sorry, for causing you trouble. I'm sorry too, you got involved with my problem. Sorry for making you have to keep this locket. Hopefully, we can gather in our little family. You, me and our Princess, Lea. I love you.

My tears dripped over the sheet of the letter my father wrote to my mother. Even though I never met him and never even saw his face, I could feel a father's affection from the letters he wrote.

"Dad, I want to meet you. I miss him I don't understand, why don't my parents live together? What's the problem that they have to split up like this? Even though they love each other. In fact, until mom died even dad did not know, how could it be? This is very strange.

"I have to meet him. Yes, I wonder what he's like"

My mother accompanies me before going to bed, while reading my favorite fairy tale book, "The Beauty and the Beast," the thing I like most about that story, is about how much the beauty loves her father, until she is willing to trade herself to live with a monster so that her father can survive.

I always remembered that story and when my mother finished reading it, I would immediately ask her.

"Mom?"

"Yes, my dear?"

"Is my dad like the Belle's Dad, Mom?" I asked innocently. I never knew who my father was.

"Lea's dad is much nicer and smart too," Mom answered with a smile.

"Dad good and smart?"

"Yes and also handsome like a prince,"

"Wow...really?" I was amazed to hear that my father was like a prince from a fairy tale.

"Your dad can make dolls that can walk and talk,"

"He is great. How can he make a doll like that? Is it like the dolls the supermarket sells?"

"Even more amazing, he can make dolls that can do jobs like humans,"

"Why didn't he make a doll like that for me?"

"Now he is making a very nice doll for Lea, but because it's made specifically for his favorite girl, it takes quite a long time,"

"When will the doll be finished, Mom?"

"When we're done, we'll meet him, okay?"

"Really? We met him?"

"Yes, but don't tell Grandpa and Grandma. Promise to me?"

"Yes, I promise!"
