Chapter 7: Let's Get Divorced

Eleanor's eyes were lifeless; there was no sign of wanting to live within them. This made David very anxious. "Eleanor, don't you have anything you want?"

"I do," said Eleanor as she covered her eyes with moist palms realizing that she was crying.

"David,I've had everything I could ever ask for in this life except for my mother who died during childbirth. I have wealth,power... even the person I've loved for so many years is by my side." She didn't want to continue discussing this topic anymore and turned around to sit back down at her computer desk where she continued working on documents.

"Does Sebastian know about your illness?"

"He doesn't know nor do I want him to know," replied Eleanor disdainfully. She didn't want to use her illness to gain sympathy, especially not from Sebastian who might not even sympathize with her.

David fell silent and eventually let out a low sigh. He took two bottles of medicine out of his bag and placed them on the coffee table - one was strong painkillers while the other was anti-cancer medication.

"Don't drink coffee anymore. Take your medicine properly and eat on time..." David gave Eleanor a bunch of instructions before taking a deep breath and leaving.

As she heard the sound of the door closing,Eleanor looked at the two bottles of medicine on the coffee table before glancing at her phone where there were no messages except for work-related ones...

Sebastian had been away for half a month again. Eleanor slowly abandoned all her previous habits such as leaving lights on or cooking meals for him when he returned home late at night. However, she still couldn't shake off her habit of checking her phone now and then.

Eleanor opened up her contacts list which only had Sebastian's name in it. She pressed down on his name but nobody answered after three attempts; this wasn't unusual so there was nothing left to do but feel numb about it.

She continued calling until finally, after waiting through several rings,Sebastian picked up his phone.

"What is it?" he asked curtly.

"Can you come back this weekend? I have something important to discuss with you... something that you've always wanted" said Eleanor urgently.

Sebastian didn't reply immediately; instead, there was some static noise coming from his end which sounded like Victoria's voice saying softly: "Sleep tight... I'll be here watching over you."

Suddenly feeling suffocated with chest pains that made breathing difficult along with blood choking in her throat due to stomach contractions,Eleanor struggled to speak into the phone: "Sebastian... if I told you that I'm dying soon... would you feel even just a little bit sorry for me?"

"Hmph," Sebastian sneered. "What kind of trick are you trying to play now,Eleanor? I know your body better than anyone else. What illness could you possibly have? Neurosis or delusions?"

Victoria interjected: "Sebastian,Eleanor misses you. Why don't you go back and see her?"

Eleanor laughed bitterly at herself before sending a text message to Sebastian.

"Let's get divorced."
