Chapter 4

But the Wilson family had no clue how bad her condition really was. They figured just throwing some money at it and putting Vilma in a VIP ward would do the trick.

"There's no way the Wilson family is dropping ten million bucks on this," Randy said, feeling pretty helpless.

"Alright, just take good care of my grandma," Abella said, glancing at Vilma reluctantly. "I gotta go."

This place wasn't great for hanging around. If Vilma woke up and saw her, she'd probably get even more worked up.

If that happened, Vilma's condition could get worse, and that'd be a whole new mess to deal with.

Randy looked at her and said softly, "I've got this, don't worry."

"Okay." Abella looked at Vilma one last time. She had so much she wanted to say, but in the end, she didn't say a word and left room 301.

Meanwhile, a bunch of doctors were rushing down the hall, looking pretty stressed.

"What happened? How did Mr. Ryan Bourbon's condition suddenly get worse?" one doctor asked.

"Apparently, he refused to take his meds to force Mr. Phillipe Bourbon to show up," another doctor replied.

"That's just reckless!"

Abella had just left room 301 when one of the doctors accidentally bumped into her shoulder.

She saw them rush into room 306, and as she passed by, she noticed the elderly man on the bed looked like he was on the brink of death.

"What do we do now? Have we notified the family?" a doctor asked.

"The family's on their way. We can only wait for them to decide about the surgery," a nurse said.

Standing at the door of room 306, Abella casually said, "If you wait for the family, he'll be dead."

The flustered doctors all turned to look at her.

At the door stood a young girl, who looked like she was in her teens, but she had this cool and confident vibe.

Her eyes were bright and clear, and her long legs added to her overall presence.

"You don't understand, kid!" A male doctor, seeing she was just a child, didn't argue with her. "This elderly gentleman has a really complicated illness. If we think we can help, we'll act fast to save his life."

Waiting for the family was the only option left.

Abella raised an eyebrow and asked calmly, "He has rheumatic heart disease, is it that serious?"

"How can you tell?" The male doctor was a bit surprised.

Another older female doctor was also astonished, "Does this girl know medicine?"

"Since you know it's caused by rheumatic heart disease, you must also know that for this condition, a valve replacement surgery is needed. This elderly gentleman has already had valve replacement surgery before!" the male doctor explained.

Abella lifted her charming face, her captivating eyes sparkling as if she didn't care about anything, "The need for a second valve replacement operation strongly indicates inadequate antibiotic therapy was administered, which in turn led to the infection and the occurrence of peri-valve leakage."

Hearing her words, all the doctors in the room were stunned.

"Does this little girl really major in medicine?" The male doctor was puzzled, "She even knows about paravalvular leak."

Ryan had indeed stopped his medication on his own, and the insufficient use of antibiotics led to infection and paravalvular leak.

"What are you talking to a girl for? How long until the family arrives?" The elderly man speaking was Zachary Brown, the most renowned cardiac specialist in the hospital, over 50 years old, and spoke with authority.

"Dr. Brown." Everyone became respectful when he spoke, and one of them answered, "The fastest his family can get here is twenty minutes."

'Twenty minutes is way too long,' Zachary thought. Ryan clearly couldn't wait that long.

Ryan had already gone through mitral valve replacement surgery abroad, but he developed a paravalvular leak soon after, so he had to go back for another valve replacement. But not long after that, he got an infection and another paravalvular leak. Things were super critical, and there was no time to go abroad again, so he had to be treated locally.

NYU Medical Center's cardiac surgery department was top-notch, and Zachary was known for his exceptional skills.

That night, under immense pressure, Zachary had pulled off an impossible surgery, basically creating a miracle!

But soon after, Ryan got another infection and needed surgery again.

Now, his condition was even worse, with an upper respiratory infection turning into pneumonia. After barely controlling the pneumonia, he started showing heart failure symptoms.

Just now, Zachary found that Ryan had developed prosthetic valve endocarditis and another paravalvular leak.

The situation was extremely critical.

In this condition, the success rate of surgery was less than 10%.

The only option now was to wait for the family!

As long as Ryan's family signed the surgery consent form, they could go ahead with the surgery without worry. Even if Ryan died, it wouldn't be the hospital's or the doctors' fault.

But with Ryan's current symptoms, it was clear he couldn't wait for the family. If no measures were taken, he would die in ten minutes.

"Zachary, we should wait for the family," a young doctor, Aurora Robinson, tentatively suggested. "If we operate without consent..."

If something went wrong, Phillipe wouldn't let them off!

In this situation, it wasn't up to them to decide to save him!

"In my opinion, we should give him a shot of sedatives and Comfortable Heart and Smooth Vessel Capsules to hold on until the family arrives!" Aurora suggested again.

The other doctors had no better ideas and looked at Zachary, waiting for his decision.

Seeing Zachary hesitate, Aurora decided to take responsibility for this action and instructed a nearby nurse, "Go get the sedatives and Comfortable Heart and Smooth Vessel Capsules."

The nurse was about to go.

Abella lazily spoke again from the door, "If you give him the shot now, he will definitely die."

Once the sedatives and Comfortable Heart and Smooth Vessel Capsules were administered, even the best doctor wouldn't be able to save Ryan.

Because Ryan was too weak now to withstand the effects of the medication.

Administering these two drugs would be like a temporary revival, giving Ryan a brief period of clarity, but he would definitely die within half an hour.

"Where did you come from? Go away, we are busy and don't have time to chat with you," Aurora snapped, clearly annoyed with this girl from the start. She didn't know where she came from, but several expert doctors were discussing countermeasures, and this girl was causing trouble.

"Quack," Abella muttered, not wanting to waste time with them and was about to leave.

Unexpectedly, Aurora lost her temper and shouted, "Who are you calling a quack? Stop right there!"

"Aurora, don't argue with a girl. Ryan's condition is urgent," the male doctor advised kindly.

"She called me a quack!" Aurora was furious, glaring at Abella with dissatisfaction.

Aurora was the most qualified and youngest chief doctor among the group, had won numerous awards, and received countless praises. How dare this girl question her medical skills?
