Chapter 6

"Dr. Smith, perfect timing," Aurora jumped at the chance to humiliate Abella. "This girl here has the nerve to want you as her assistant."

Randy glanced at Abella, who stood there cool as a cucumber, like nothing could touch her.

He shot a disapproving look at Aurora and asked the room, "What's going on?"

Aurora quickly filled him in, making sure to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear to show off her best side, hoping to impress Randy. "This patient’s case is unheard of, both here and abroad."

"Then what are we waiting for?" Randy, clearly doing this for Abella, agreed to take on the tough case without showing any emotion. "Let's operate."

"Dr. Smith, why are you going along with her?" Aurora was taken aback but quickly added, "The success rate for this surgery is less than 10%. Ryan is a big deal, and if something goes wrong, we can't handle the fallout!"

Randy's gaze turned icy, and his voice matched, "If something goes wrong, it's on me. I'll take full responsibility."

Everyone was stunned.

Was he really going to go along with this girl?

Randy didn't waste any more time and turned to Abella, "Follow me."

He was leading Abella to the operating room.

As Abella walked past Aurora, she smirked, "Didn't you say you'd do whatever I say?"

Aurora was speechless. She had indeed said that if Randy agreed to be Abella's assistant, she'd do whatever Abella wanted, but she never thought Randy would actually agree.

Randy was usually so full of himself, why the sudden change today?

Was it because the girl was pretty?

Abella's smile widened, "Don't forget your promise."

"When did I promise?" Aurora suddenly remembered, "I did say that if you could save Ryan, I'd do whatever you say, but I doubt you can! Don't end up killing him and blaming us!"

Abella's eyes were cold, "Even if you kept your promise and listened to me, I'd find no use for you!"

"Don't forget to kneel," Abella tossed over her shoulder as she followed Randy.

Aurora watched her go, feeling a mix of anger and disbelief, and shouted, "If you can save Ryan, I won't just kneel, I'll give up my position as attending physician!"

She patted her badge, "Let's see if you can take it!"

Randy overheard their bet and casually asked, "Why are you clashing with Aurora?"

"She bites off more than she can chew," Abella sneered.

It would be good to knock Aurora down a peg and show her there was always someone better.

Ryan was wheeled into the operating room by two nurses, leaving a few doctors in the ward, looking at each other.

"They're all nuts! Ryan's condition can't be operated on! Dr. Smith is too young to get the consequences of failure! It's not just about his reputation and career!" one doctor said.

Phillipe was ruthless. If something happened to Ryan, Phillipe would come after all of them!

"Dr. Brown, are we really going to do nothing? This is a human life we're talking about," the doctor continued. "Mr. Bourbon is so prestigious, how can we let them mess around like this? Dr. Brown, say something!"

"Yeah, stop them while there's still time!" another doctor chimed in.

Compared to the others, the female doctor held onto a bit of hope. "Dr. Smith comes from a long line of medical geniuses. He might not be as famous as Mr. Wilson, but he could save Ryan with his skills."

The male doctor nodded, clinging to that same hope. "Dr. Smith is known as a genius. As long as he's here, there's a chance for a miracle."

"You guys are missing the point. He's just assisting that girl, and she's the one doing the surgery! How old is she? What does she know about medicine?" Ronald Lewis was getting anxious. "Dr. Brown, say something!"

"Dr. Lewis, why are you so worried? Dr. Smith said he'd take full responsibility if anything goes wrong," Aurora chimed in.

"But Mr. Ryan Bourbon is Mr. Phillipe Bourbon's grandfather. If he dies, Mr. Phillipe Bourbon will blame us for not stopping this!" Lewis was practically sweating bullets.

"Then we'll just say it was Dr. Smith's idea, and we couldn't stop him," Aurora said, steeling herself. It was his choice to go along with the girl.

"This girl doesn't know Ryan's true identity. If she did, she would've run for the hills. How dare she take on such a complex case?" Zachary, who had been quiet, finally spoke up. "I'll go see how she handles it."

Seeing Zachary leave, the other doctors followed suit. "Dr. Brown, you need to do something before Mr. Bourbon gets here..."

Aurora turned to a nearby nurse, "Turn on all the operating room monitors. Record everything. I want to see this girl embarrass herself!"

Word spread quickly through the hospital about a high school student performing a difficult surgery, and everyone rushed to watch.

Even Zachary was stumped by this condition, and now a young girl had a solution? Could she be a fraud?

Abella changed into sterile clothing and was about to enter the operating room when Aurora showed up. "Just so you know, Ryan's pericardium was damaged in a previous surgery. His heart is almost touching his sternum. If you're not careful when opening the chest, his heart could rupture, and he'll die instantly. You'll be finished!"

"I'm not you," Abella replied, raising an eyebrow, her eyes clear and confident. "I won't make such a rookie mistake."

Aurora was fuming. "Fine, I'll be waiting for you to mess up!"

She stormed off to the observation room.

The observation room was packed with doctors. When they saw the young girl entering the operating room as the lead surgeon, they were all shocked.

"Dr. Brown, where did she come from? Are you really letting her do this? How old is she? She looks like she hasn't even graduated high school, and the patient is Mr. Bourbon's grandfather..." one doctor asked.

"If something goes wrong, not just you, but everyone will be in trouble," another male doctor said.

"She wants to show off, and Dr. Smith is backing her up. What are you worried about?" Aurora crossed her arms, watching the girl through the glass with a smirk.

Abella put on a surgical mask, her eyes clear and focused. She had the calm demeanor of a seasoned surgeon.

"Position the patient."

"Administer anesthesia."

"Disinfect the skin."

"Scalpel."

Abella gave Randy precise instructions.

The doctors in the observation room were taken aback. "Does she really know what she's doing? These steps are correct. Could she actually save Mr. Ryan Bourbon?"

Aurora sneered, "She probably learned it from TV. Don't get your hopes up."

If Abella could save Mr. Ryan Bourbon, Aurora would eat a scalpel live.
