Chapter 3
Her response was so casual, like she'd been waiting for this day all along.
Catherine felt a twinge of discomfort. The Montague Family should be the ones to dump Selena, but her indifferent reaction made it seem like Raymond wasn't all that.
To save face, Catherine snorted, "Good that you agree. Someone like you doesn't deserve Raymond. He deserves better. Come over now. I've also called Raymond; he'll be here soon."
Selena paused. Raymond would be there too?
If Raymond knew Selena was the wife he was about to divorce, what would his reaction be?
As proud as he was, Raymond would probably feel pretty embarrassed.
Selena chuckled and headed towards Montague Manor.
When Catherine saw Selena, her expression was sour, but since Selena didn't make a fuss about compensation, she didn't make things too difficult.
Catherine stated, "Don't blame me for being harsh. You should be well aware of the current situation of the Fair Family. I won't hide it from you; you should persuade James to give up if he can't handle business. The Montague Family can help him once but not a second time. With Beatrice still eyeing the situation, your position is very precarious. Marrying you brings no benefit and only adds to the burden of our family. Blame it on your poor background."
Selena sat on the sofa, nodding in agreement. "Yes, I indeed don't deserve Mr. Montague."
In fact, apart from that marriage certificate, they were no different from strangers, and she had to bear the title of Mrs. Montague.
Divorce might have been a relief for her.
Catherine fell silent.
She felt a sense of frustration, unable to tell if the submissive Selena in front of her was acting or genuinely indifferent.
Outside, the sound of a car braking could be heard.
The waiting servant outside saw Raymond's car stop and quickly came in to report, "Mrs. Montague, your son is back!"
Catherine stood up excitedly and walked quickly to the door.
Selena also looked towards the door. Although she had mentally prepared herself to face Raymond, her originally calm heart suddenly became uncontrollably nervous.
The car door swung open.
Catherine was about to step forward, but it wasn't Raymond who stepped out—it was his assistant, John. "Mrs. Montague, Mr. Montague had a last-minute meeting and can't make it home for dinner tonight. He sent you this gift."
When Catherine called Raymond, she just asked him to come home for dinner. She didn't mention that Selena was there too.
If she had, knowing how he left his wife Selena and went abroad three years ago, he probably would've flat-out refused to come home.
Catherine motioned for the servant to take the flowers from John's hand, a hint of disappointment on her face. She sighed, "I know he's busy. Just tell him to take care of himself."
John nodded and got back in the car.
Back in the living room, Catherine looked at Selena and felt even more frustrated. She waved her hand dismissively. "You can go now. I'll call you when he has time."
"Okay." Selena nodded, not planning to stay for dinner and cause any trouble.
She didn't see John's face, just a vague glimpse of his back, but she knew it wasn't Raymond.
Honestly, it didn't matter if she didn't see him today. The divorce papers were already ready.
Once she got back in her car and was waiting at a red light, Selena glanced at her work messages.
It was after work, and the chat group was buzzing.
[I heard Raymond's planning to get married this time. He just dropped a ton of cash on a place at Manston Manor as soon as it went on sale. Bet it's getting renovated soon, right?]
[Our boss is actually Raymond's high school buddy. Think he can help us snag this design project?]
[If we get to design Raymond's wedding house, we'll be rolling in dough! His wealth abroad is enough to put him at the top of the rich list. As an international top-tier capital operator, plus the Montague Family's prestigious background, even getting to talk to him up close would be a huge gain.]
Except for a few people in the social circle, almost no one knew that Raymond was already married.
Even the media had never mentioned it.
Selena wasn't interested in this topic. Just as she was about to hit the gas, she got a text from her boss, Matthew Clark: [Come to the 54 Club. A client interested in the villas you designed is there and wants to talk to you personally.]
