Chapter 5

Clarie was already in the taxi that would take her home to her flat. It was already eleven o'clock in the afternoon, and she was stricken with hunger. It took less than thirty minutes for the yellow taxi to arrive in front of the flat building where she had lived for four years.

Clarie climbed the stairs to the third floor where her flat was. The girl took the key out of her handbag, and the door in front of her opened, revealing the figure of her best friend.

"Daniel?" said Clarie who then barged in without caring about the surprised look on her best friend's face.

"Hey! Where have you been?!" asked the shoulder-length black-haired girl and was shocked when she saw that there were lots of red marks around the girl's neck.

Clarie took a drink of water while raising her hand asking the woman in front of her to be quiet for a moment. Daniele folded her arms over her stomach waiting for an explanation from the dehydrated girl.

After taking a sip of water, Clarie opened the fridge behind her and looked for some food. She remembered that she still had the coconut bread left that she bought yesterday afternoon.

"Did you guys play until morning, and that guy didn't feed you, huh?!"

Clarie took a small bite of bread and placed it on the dining table.

"Say!" Daniele said firmly.

“Where are you going? I was looking for you last night," Clarie said, putting her hands on her hips.

Daniel stared. "You forgot, I already told you that I went downstairs with Erick," Daniele said, rolling her eyes.

"When I came back, you were gone. Ronald said you went to the toilet and I looked for you there but couldn't find you. So, who here actually disappeared?" Daniele said angrily.

Clarie scratched her suddenly itchy head.

"You met a man huh?"

Clarie nodded in approval.

"Who?"

"My boss," Clarie answered quickly.

"What?! your boss? Correct?" asked Daniele again asking for an explanation. Clarie nodded again.

"So you managed to sleep with your handsome boss?" asked Daniele in a high tone.

"Could you keep your voice down, idiot!" Clarie shouted angrily.

Daniele just chuckled.

"Tell me, Clarie. I wonder how he managed to break through your virginity?"

Clarie glared sharply at Daniele who spoke spontaneously without filtering her words first.

"Tsk! Come on, tell me!"

"Not now."

Clarie went back to munching on the remaining half of the bread. Ignoring Daniele's annoyance forced her to confide.

"Claire, come on!" asked Daniele forcefully.

"I'll take a shower first," Clarie said as she stepped away from her best friend.

.

Clarie chose to soak in the bath to relax her body. She closed her eyes remembering the incident that happened this morning at the man's apartment who was none other than her own boss.

She didn't know what happens when they meet at the office later. The girl immersed her whole body up to her head in the water.

The bright Monday morning seemed to welcome Clarie's first day as Lucas Henderson's secretary. She hoped that on her first day she would not experience many mistakes, as much as possible she would do her best and didn't want to disappoint Rebecca. What's more, after yesterday's incident it was really beyond expectations.

Clarie was in the middle of tidying up Lucas' room from the various files that had piled up and tidying them up to the available places. When you are sure that there is nothing to tidy up anymore, the girl goes out to her desk to arrange today's schedule for her boss.

The girl was focused on the square screen in front of her, her fingers dancing beautifully on the keyboard to type something. Little did she know, a pair of eyes were watching her for a long time.

Lucas had been standing since ten minutes ago and looked at the girl who seemed focused on typing. The man remembered yesterday's incident, waking up alone without the girl in his bed. He also intended to visit Clarie, but was abandoned, afraid that the girl would be shocked when she found him standing in front of her flat door.

"Good morning Miss Evans," Lucas greeted in his signature baritone voice.

Clarie who heard that immediately stood up and left her typing spontaneously.

"Good morning, sir," Clarie replied nervously.

"To my office, now!" he ordered, then entered into his office.

"Fine, sir," Clarie said quietly.

Clarie took a deep breath, then let it out slowly before knocking on her boss' door.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

"Enter!"

Clarie hit the door handle and pushed it, then the girl stepped into her superior's room.

Lucas, who was still sitting without doing anything, immediately looked at Clarie who was walking slowly towards her.

Today the girl was wearing a short-sleeved, faded yellow shirt with long buttons. For her subordinates, Clarie wore a black above-the-knee span skirt combined with seven-inch black heels.

Clarie shifted restlessly because Lucas was scanning her.

"Sit down, Miss Evans," Lucas ordered. The girl complied and took a seat in front of him.

"Before starting today's work, I want to offer you a work contract," Lucas said flatly.

Clarie frowned.

"It means?" asked Clarie not understanding.

Lucas stared at Clarie for a long time without saying anything. Clarie shifted uneasily in her chair at such intense stares by the man who had managed to enjoy her virginity.

"I want to offer you a deal, Clarie."

Clarie gulped hard. In her head began popping up a lot of questions.

"An agreement to mutually satisfy each other," Lucas said.

Clarie held her breath as she heard the offer from the man in front of her.

"Claire?" Lucas called, because the girl didn't respond at all to what he said.

"What's in it for me?" asked the girl sounding sassy.

"I will meet your needs. Like, shopping, apartments, cars, whatever it is," Lucas said.

"What about your wife, sir?"

Lucas gritted his jaw. Clarie who saw that regretted her question just now.

Lucas got up from his chair, then stepped towards the window looking out at the streets of New York City which looked very crowded this morning.

Clarie was still reeling in her chair.

"Me and Marion haven't been together since we got married."

Clarie was stunned by the man's words.

'How could it be?' The girl thought.

"Our marriage is just a mask, for the sake of a business," said the man again.

Lucas turned his body towards Clarie, and leaned against the window. The man then looked at the girl who was still motionless in her chair.

"How are you, Clarie?" he asked again. "I will wait for your decision until this afternoon, if you refuse I will not touch you again," he added.

After saying that, Lucas stepped back to sit in his chair.

"What's today's schedule, Miss. Clarie?" he asked again formally.

Clarie stuttered, before long she began to control the situation. The girl got up from her chair, then started reading the schedule for today to her boss.

.

Clarie dropped her weight in her swivel chair. The girl exhaled heavily, remembering the man's offer.

"What should I do? He just gave me a little time to think. Irritating!" she grumbled.

At five in the afternoon, all employees had left the office. Clarie was pacing back and forth in front of her desk, she was nervous. This afternoon she would meet Lucas and answer the man's offer.

Lucas was still busy in front of his square screen playing a game of poker, waiting for the girl.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

"Come in!" he ordered the knocker.

The girl stepped into the room still with her voluptuous appearance. Lucas swallowed his saliva every time he faced the girl.

"Good evening, Clarie," he greeted pleasantly.

"I want to say that, I am willing to accept your offer."

The man's lips lifted into a smile.
