CHAPTER ONE
Anya's POV
I sat beside the Alpha's sick bed with a gloomy expression on my face, the room in total silence as the pack doctor tended to the Alpha, his breath in whispers as he dragged in the air from the surrounding. The beta stood in silence watching the doctor's every movement, the only constant sound that reverberated across the room was the constant tick-tock of the wall clock, just as the doctor placed the Alpha's hands back into the duvet. He turned and gave me a look that I understood way too well. I returned the gesture and he straightened his back which was lowered when he was attending to the Alpha. Our exchange had happened so quickly and precisely that it was completely unnoticed by anyone present.
"The Alpha's condition is getting better. He has improved a lot these past few days," the doctor explained as he put on his coat.
"Is that true? But why does he not look better?" the beta asked, his face a mask of worry.
"That's the effect of the medicine. It shows that the medicine is working properly. Trust me," the doctor replied, as he balanced the coat on his shoulders
"But...," The beta tried to counter.
"Are you doubting the doctor's experience?" I ask the beta, he was trying to make the work harder for both of us, and I sighed inwardly.
"No Luna, I wouldn't dare," he replied swiftly
"I trust that my husband will recover soon and pull through this hard phase of our lives. He will. He has to for my sake," I muttered dejectedly, tears brimming at the corner of my eyes.
"He will be fine Luna, just keep giving him his drugs and he will get better and faster than you expected," the doctor said, his words having an underlying meaning only I understood.
"I will, I won't miss a day of giving him the medicine," I replied. He nodded his head in greeting as he turned to leave the room.
"I will take my leave now, I will be back tomorrow to check up on him," the doctor said. I sniffled while cleaning the tears that had rolled down my cheeks.
"Thank you so much doctor," I replied as I turned to watch him leave.
"I'm just doing my job." He said. 'Don't worry everything will work out," he answered, giving me a knowing look. I nodded as he finally left the room.
"Give us some privacy and shut the door behind you," I ordered the beta, watching him bolt the door as leaves with a click to it. Leaving the bed almost immediately the click set into place I pulled a chair towards the bed, disgust was written all over my face, and I sat on it with a smile all over my face. I had a smile of victory I could say as I took a look into the sick and pale Alpha's face. Every breath he took came out of his pants.
"How the mighty have fallen!" I gave a little delightful squeal. "I must say, you on this sick bed look so nice and satisfying," I said with a chuckle, wiping the fake tears from my eyes. His almost lifeless eyes stared at me.
"Do you really think you will get better soon like the doctor said?" I asked, feeling his breath becoming labored.
"Wait! you really thought so?" I laugh out loud as I spoke it as a fact rather than a question. "You won't get better. You will only get worse each passing day till you die," I spat bitterly.
"You disgust me. Your mere presence disgusts me. Your breath, touch, and existence. Everything about you irks me so much that every time you touch me, I feel like screaming and clawing your eyes out of anger. Everywhere you touch me, I hated so much that I scrub hard till it bled trying to get rid of your filth. I felt so disgusted that every moment I think about you would want me to throw up but each time I barely manage to restrain myself," I uttered angrily. The anger I've restrained all these years flaring up.
"You know what?" I asked again as I rolled my fingertips on the bed, his eyes bright in anticipation to know what came next. "I was the one who leaked the information about you going hunting to the rogues, I was the reason they knew exactly where to find you," I said with a smirk. "You always wondered how they knew right? You know now," I said to him, the smile still plastered on my face.
"W..w..why d..i..d," he stuttered, panting heavily, not being able to complete his sentence with his failing lungs
"Why? you ask!?" I let my tone go a bit higher, the fury pouring over my face. "Remember Ice Fang's pack? I was the Alpha's daughter, The Alpha you brutally killed his entire people," I revealed the secret I have been keeping for so long. His eyes widened in shock.
"You remember right? You coldly killed my people and took some in as slaves. I have been longing and burning to take my revenge and now I finally have." The muscles on my face relaxed as I said so "I can't wait to see your lifeless and miserable body," I spat glaringly at him.
His face contorted into anger as he tried to get up from his bed. I watched him grope around as He struggled to get out of his sick bed.
"Stop trying because you won't be able to do it," I said to him with a smile, watching him lay back on his bed panting heavily.
"Gosh! This feels so good. I feel so relieved like a huge burden has just gotten off my chest. I feel rejuvenated. You know as they say revenge feels better when it's served cold. After you die, I will take over this pack and no one will ever find out what really happened to you. I want you to die remembering every bad thing you've done and every innocent life you've slain," I sneered.
I was told by the pack doctor whom I had paid off to, to cover up the Alpha's real condition that he was going to die soon. He hinted at it to me earlier.
"And you are going to die soon," I deadpan. He looked at me in shock, his breath coming in heavily.
"You are going to die like I have always wanted and nobody is going to find out how you died. Everyone is going to think you died due to your illness. The doctor and I made them believe that," I muttered.
"You were never really sick. After you were attacked by rogues, you came back alive. So I thought hard about how to get rid of you without anyone suspecting anything." I sighed, getting up from the chair I sat on, I began to pace the room. "I feel like I should tell you everything since you are going to die soon," I said, stopping in front of him. "I finally came up with the brilliant plan to slowly poison you watching your health deteriorated as you died slowly and painfully," I spat angrily,
