Chapter 7 Seeking Allies in Shadows

CHAPTER 7

ALLISON'S POV

I cursed the ground that Aurora walked on, like she was the devil in my life, my carnage. I knew that this dinner I was given wasn't supposed to be given to me. She just made it up to incite more hate inside my heart.

"What do you want Aurora?" I asked rudely, staring into the eyes of the beast that caused me all the troubles in my life.

"I don't want anything from you, what would I want from a lowlife like you, you're nothing but a peasant. You took everything away from me but I guess you thought you could take him away but the tables turned, now there's definitely something I want from you" Her words hurt me so much, made my head filled with thoughts that there is a possibility that I and Aurora are not sisters.

"What's that?" I was wondering what she was talking about.

What more does she want from me?

"A son, the heir to the throne. I would call him mine after you're dead, he wouldn't even realize your absence because I would shower him with the best things in life" She giggled, walking closer to my cage.

"I'll name your child and I'll take care of him. I would be his mother and you would do nothing about it" She growled holding down the bars of the dungeons, staring at the seriousness in her eyes, I couldn't let her words sink into my mind.

"You deranged fool, look at me when I say this, you would never have my son, no one would ever get his hands close to him. I promise you that" She knew that my words were true, when I make a promise, I stop at nothing in fulfilling them.

"Guard, kindly give her twelve lashes for this utterance she made" I expected this from her, trying to show me that she had the upper hand always, just like she had our parents love, my mate and everything that I owned.

"As you wish your grace" The Guard conceded to her words, remembering the words of the Guard I realized that I was the one incurring the hurt on me by my verbal utterances.

"That's the first I guess" she scoffed, I closed my eyes, staring through the dark, trying to endure through the pains but I couldn't,

When the Guard was done, Aurora walked into the dungeons, I was weak and pale, groaning softly.

"This is the beginning of your end elder sister, your death would be the greatest gift to me, I assure you that" Aurora chortled as she pulled my hair up along with my head and hit it hard on the ground, she made a deep gash on my forehead, staring at the blood that gushed out. I felt like dying immediately and letting all these punishments go away.

"I can't wait to celebrate your pregnancy news" she announced as the Nurse walked into the dungeons to have a check on me as usual. She must have called her, knowing that I was bleeding.

"Stubborn flies follow a dead corpse to it's grave, since you never listen, a time would come when you wouldn't be able to endure all this hate and punishment you might even sought to take your own life" The Guard sighed as he washed off his hands.

"I can never think of that, suicide is a foolish man's way of giving up and I'm not foolish" I retorted, hating the fact that he quoted a proverb meant for the weak and not me.

"Well allow them play their cards without restrictions, your turn would definitely come and when you seize that opportunity, you would be able to hold onto it forever or maybe for a short while" He explained his words further, I guessed that proverb was directed to me.

"I guess you're right, I would have to stop all these retaliations... thanks for not going all hard on me," I appreciated his kind gestures, remembering that he only made the first whip count, the rest where directed to the wall, due to his body structure, Aurora never discovered what truly happened.

"We acted that scene to perfection and we got lucky that she didn't realize it" The Guard laughed, we both were laughing until we got interrupted by the Nurse who escorted Aurora out of the dungeons.

"How're you feeling Allison?" The Nurse inquired as she approached me.

"I'm fine, I look fine and I act fine... To hell with that I don't look fine, I don't act fine and I can never be fine until I'm out of here"

"Which is going to be a long time so you just have to rest and be healthy. That would keep you long enough to make that move you speak dearly about" She mocked me staring at the smirk on her face I was pissed,

"In that case you can leave" I was angered staring at the Nurse who seemed like she wasn't even listening to my words. I removed my hands from hers as she understood what I was trying to say,

"I'm not yet done with your check up" She retorted,

"Get out!" I yelled into her ears, scaring the life out of her, watched her scurry off with her items like a rat being chased away by a cat.

"You don't have to be harsh on your helpers" I was getting tired of this Guard always judging my actions, felt like he was my mother.

"She could kill you in here you know right?" he added,

"Yeah I know but I don't care" I retorted immediately.

"That's why your sister has the upper hand over you... You don't know who's your ally and who's your enemy " The mention of the word 'your sister ' caught my attention as I paid attention to his words.

"Why do you have all the answers to people's problems but you can't leave this poor job and do something meaningful with your life" since he was so brilliant , why would he settle for a dungeon Guard, it looked very weird to me.

"Well I took an oath, to keep the criminals off the world" i sighed in a mild tone.

"I guess this world's good that you have only me to keep away from the world" I chortled accompanied with a deep exhale.

"Yeah you're right which is why I'm helping you because you're not a criminal, fate choices brought you here and you can reclaim it only if you give yourself the chance to understand what I'm taking about"

How do I understand what he's saying? How do I have the upper hand against Aurora?
