"Oh look who we have here." Kristin said with an evil grin on her face, her arms crossed while leaning against the wall of the classroom.

"Can we just get this over with?" I said, not wanting to deal with her bull.

She chuckled, "Of course, Mary" She said with a wide smile.

After class ended, I was no longer by her. Which is a good thing of course, she gives me a hard time and people like her are always the ones who give me the need to punch someone.

After a while it was time for lunch. The cafeteria was packed with students and a few teachers. I sat down at an empty table, placing my bag alongside me. I rested my head against the table; I didn't get much sleep last night so it was kinda the perfect opportunity for me to get some more sleep.

I closed my eyes, but what felt like a second later, I opened my eyes. I looked around to see that the cafeteria was empty; The whole building was empty. I stood up from the table that I was sitting at. I grabbed my bag, putting it on my back. The building was dark to the point where there was hardly any light; It was quiet, cold, the whole place put me on the edge. I walked slowly towards the kitchen until it exploded. The kitchen was set in flames, creating a lot of smoke. I started to hear growling amongst the smoke. I walked backwards slowly as I trembled in fear. In fear? I questioned. Why? I wondered. I tried to call out but nothing came out of my mouth.

I could feel eyes on me, almost like they were piercing through my eye sockets to the point where they would melt. The creature came closer towards me. This time I got to get a clear view of the creature. It was tall, had a large build. There was no way it was human, I thought. I squinted my eyes but soon widened as I noticed that the creature was standing on two legs!

I gasped as my heart skipped a beat. I turned around, my back facing the creature. I started running down the hallway of the school building, my legs moving on their own. I eventually tripped, my knees collided with the floor. I could hear loud footsteps coming near me. They were getting louder and louder.

When I turned around to see it. I woke up to reality. I was covered in sweat, as my eyes were beaming with fear. I looked around seeing everyone evacuating the building. All I could hear was the fire alarm bursting everyone's ear drums. I grabbed my bag, putting it on my back. I looked at the kitchen, seeing it was in flames. I followed the crowd of people; Everyone was soon outside of the building. I was confused. How did the kitchen catch on fire? I wondered. I can hear students whispering and breathing heavily around me. This was just great, I thought.

The principal eventually announced that the school day had been shortened. To the point where everyone can go home.

Kristin walked towards me. "You should fix your makeup." She said. "Cause right now you're looking like a clown." She grinned, her hands resting on her hips.

"Yeah, thanks." I said, "You should fix yours too." I pointed out.

Kristin scoffed. I walked away so the

conversation didn't go any further. I went to the front of the school building. I didn't feel like walking back home so I called my stepmom.

Why isn't she answering? I thought. And I sent her some messages.

Mary

Hello?

Stepmom

Hello, sorry for not answering your voice call, I was dropping off your brother.

Mary

Uhm, no worries. So, school has been shortened today so I was hoping you could come pick me up.

Stepmom

Oh sure I can do that but how come it has been short?

Mary

The kitchen got caught on fire so they decided to end it today.

Stepmom

Oh no.. Are you okay? Did you get hurt?

Mary

Yeah I am fine. Just come pick me up alright?

Stepmom

Right. Right, sorry I will be there shortly.

I turn off my phone, sighing in relief. Now. I just have to wait, I grumbled as my legs were already feeling tired.

I saw Jeremy sitting on the bench right next to me. "Hey, Jeremy, was it?" I walked towards him.

"Yeah. What's up?" He took out one of his earbuds.

"Is it okay if I sit here?" I pointed at the bench he was sitting on, "It's not taken right?"

"No, you can sit here, I don't mind it. Just waiting to get a ride." He smiled softly as he fiddled with his earbud.

"Alright thanks, and I'm also waiting to get picked up." I chuckled as I sat down next to him.

Kristin walked towards us. "Hey." She said as she glared at me. "Do

you know that it's rude to walk away while someone is talking to you?" She asked me as her arms were crossed.

I rolled my eyes, "Whatever." I sighed.

Kristin started to curse at me and of course I ignored her the whole time. Jeremy eventually left because of her but made it seem like whoever came to pick him up came.

After a few minutes Kristin left me alone. And Clarence, my stepmom finally came, I walked towards the car, opening the one car door that was in the front. I took a quick glance at her before getting in.

"How come you didn't pick up when I first called you?" I asked her.

She looked at me before pulling out of the parking lot. "I was getting groceries." She answered.

"Groceries?" I said. "What did we need?" I asked.

She shrugged, "Nothing much, just needed more milk and bread. Possibly eggs as well."

"How's dad?" I turned my head to face her. "Is he doing any better?"

"He's doing great. Is absolutely fine." She nodded her head slightly.

"Did you take him to a hospital or something? Like get some medication to help him out?"

"No, I didn't and besides he's alright, I even think that he will be much better tomorrow." She glanced at me with an awkward smile.

I looked outside the window of the car watching houses and cars pass by like lightning. It was silent on the rest of the way back home.

We went inside of the house but this time the atmosphere was different, it was off; edgy in a way.

"Has any changes been made to the house?" I asked her as I walked further into the house.

"No, why? Does anything seem different?"

She hung up her thin jacket. I shook my head, "No, I guess it's nothing then." I sighed, What's wrong with me today? Had a weird dream, now this? I took a deep breath as I closed my eyes.

"I'm going to take a quick shower." She said, "being covered in sweat isn't my specialty."

I nodded my head before watching her go upstairs.

Downstairs; just you and me now dad. I went towards the living room. There was a fly swarming around him as if something had been rotting for a while.

"Well, Dad, today sucked quite a bit, the kitchen got set in flames. It was great, don't you think?"

I got closer to him as he was a bit too quiet. "Dad?" I said, feeling a bit uneasy. I walked towards the armchair to get a better look. When I was right next to him, I noticed the fruit ball on the coffee table; It was full of rotten fruit, apples, bananas, and a few peaches.

I took my eyes off the fruit ball and looked at dad. He was fast asleep, having his glasses all messed up that was resting on his face. I guess being a heavy sleeper is nice. There were flies flying around the fruit bowl. Some landed on dad's face.

I looked down seeing a newspaper resting on his lap. What's this? Why would he still read newspapers? I thought to myself. I grabbed the newspaper, it was folded terribly so I decided to refold it. I went back to the kitchen-placing the newspaper on the breakfast table-I went back to get rid of the fruit bowl; I threw out the rotten fruit and washed the glass fruit bowl.

When I was done I put the fruit bowl beside the sink so I could wash my hands. After I finished doing that, I walked back into the living room for the last time. I looked around to see if there was anything that was misplaced.

I looked at the fireplace, dust and photos were on display. I looked at the photos of the happy family. There was one photo that had me, dad, Edson, and my mom; my birth mother. We were having a picnic at a park that was close to the house. Mom thought that it would be a good idea to take a family picture. Dad even thought that it was a good idea but I think he only agreed with mom for no particular reason.
