Chapter 2: Job Hunting

Chapter two: Job Hunting

Natalie

Seven years later

I was awakened by knocking coming from my door, groaning. I turned over and hugged my soft pillow while I sighed in satisfaction, so comfortable.

"Natalie!!"

I immediately opened my eyes and looked around my room. I jolted up from my bed and ran to the door as I already knew who it was.

"Ms. Florence?" I greeted my landlady with a bright smile on my face after I opened the door.

She ignored me while she poked her head inside my apartment looking to see if I brought any man in her house.

"Ms. Florence." I repeated and she finally pulled back her head before looking at me suspiciously.

"I am sorry, I didn't hear when you called the fire time." I apologize, she raised her eyebrows.

"Really?"

"Yes, Is there anything I can do for you?"

"Yes, Natalie. I am waiting for you to pay your rent."

I am owing her three months rent, I am really trying to pay her but no one wants to offer me a job.

"Yes, Ms. Florence, I know and I am currently searching for a job so I can pay you."

"Good, you better find a job soon young lady or you pack out." I nodded before she glanced over to my apartment one last time and then left.

Letting out a sigh, I closed the door before walking into the living room, laid there was my cute little puppy.

"Molly!" I exclaimed before taking her in my arms.

"How was your night? Still tired?" She licked my hands before snuggling in my arms.

"Let's eat breakfast, you are hungry aren't you?" I walked to the kitchen with her in my arms.

I adopted Molly seven years ago, she has been so helpful to me. I was never a fan of dogs but after what happened to me for seven years, I stayed away from children. She was like a daughter I lost.

Placing her on the floor, I went into the cupboard and brought some dog's food. I poured it on a bowl and placed it beside her.

"Here you go, Molly." I scratched her head.

I made myself breakfast as well and after I was done eating, I took Molly to the sitting room and placed her in the rug.

"Now stay here and play, okay? Mother is going to take a shower." I brought her toys beside her.

I entered into my small bathroom, stripped off my clothes and stepped into the shower. Sighing in satisfaction as the warm water hit my back, I took my soap and scrubbed all the dirt out of my body. I walked out of the bathroom to my small closet to pick something casual to wear for job hunting again.

"Woof woof!" I heard Molly, I looked down to see her looking up at me. I smiled before picking her up in my arms.

"Molly, what are you doing here?" She snuggled in my arms.

"Mother would like to stay with you but I have to try and get a job so I can pay the mean landlady her rent, okay?" I walked out of my bedroom into the living room and she barked again.

"Good girl, mother will be back soon, okay? Don't misbehave." I placed her down on the rug again.

"Bye, wish me luck."

I waved before exiting the house, she was looking at me as I looked at the door. I waved to her the last time.

"God please help me, I really need a job."

I spent the entire day hunting for a job but yet no one wants to hire me. They kept rejecting me.

"I am sorry but we don't need any more workers." The boss of the first offer I entered said. I sighed before nodding my head in understanding and left.

"I am really sorry but we don't hire people like you here. This is a big company and we only hire rich people." Another boss said and I mentally rolled my eyes before leaving his office.

It went on for the rest of the day, I kept getting turned down by every job interview and it was no fun. Luck is definitely not on my side.

I sighed and walked to a small opened store to pick some snacks as I was already hungry. As I was about to walk out of the store, it started running. Today was really a bad day, I cussed.

Standing under the little shelter that blocked the rain from wetting me much, I took a seat and waited for the bus to arrive.

After a few minutes of waiting, the bus finally arrived but my soak was almost soaked with the rain. I entered the bus and sat in one of the back seats, eager to reach home.

"Molly! Mother is back." She jumped into my arms as I entered the house. Taking my heels off, I giggled at her while she snuggled in my arms again.

"Are you hungry? Let me get you something to eat." I walked into the kitchen and brought her food.

I made myself some dinner as well, gobbling down the food in hunger, I didn't waste time finishing the whole meal. I took a nice shower afterwards, slipping into my comfortable pajamas and cuddling in bed with my dog while I checked on the internet. Then my phone buzzed and I checked it to see a job notification.

Nanny job: Looking for a nanny who can look after a seven year old girl, must not be more than twenty-five years old. The interview will be held tomorrow at Jacio International Company from 8am to 2pm.

This job looks suitable for me but should I be around children after what happened seven years ago? I shouldn't but this is my last hope. I have to try and get this job, I am really in a bad situation right now and I need to try. I will try.

I sighed and turned off my phone as the memories of what happened seven years ago ran back in my mind. My daughter would be seven years old if she was still….. I shouldn't be thinking about this, it has already happened, I need to move on.

Letting out another breath, I placed my phone on the desk beside my bed and cuddled with my pillow. Closing my eyes I made myself more comfortable before I was knocked out like a light into a deep sleep.
