Chapter 33

It has been a month since I moved to South Korea for work. The hospital which hired me was the biggest and most expensive private hospital in the country. I was shocked on my first day at work. I didn't have many expectations when it came to my workplace but they blew my mind. The hospital was big, beautiful and well-maintained.

No wonder they could afford to pay me a huge salary and pay for my housing. They insisted I could move out if I wanted to and they would handle everything. Since I have bonded well with my current house, I didn't see the need to move out and start afresh in a new place. I was oriented on the hospital policies and culture, I found it wasn't as different as in my country.

Except this time my patients might be celebrities and politicians. Talk about adding anxiety to already existing anxiety. The hospital prices were outrageous but somehow some people can afford it. Was it weird I was working at a place where I couldn't afford to get treated if I was ill?

Life has been good so far. I have great co-workers. We don't talk much because I will need my translator with me at all times and I find it tiring. Seri has been following me around as usual. It was her job to help me communicate better with my patients and colleagues. She is kind, helpful and motivated. In a month, she somehow knows what I want without having to communicate a word.

We get along splendidly. I started seeing patients soon after with her being the bridge between us. None of the patients have complained as our situation was self-explanatory. I won't say it's always smooth. I have met patients who refused my services and I quote because I was not their colour. Sadly, racism is still alive even in the 21st century.

Anyway for such people I let them do whatever they want. If they wanted to be treated with someone else who was I to refuse when my workload was reduced? I have been mostly working on the vibrant day shift. As a chief consultant, I don't have to see all the patients. Only VIP patients and those with unique diseases.

Aargh!!VIPs, I know, they are the worst. Most are entitled assholes but I couldn't say that to their faces. I wish I could. Among them, there are patients I hate extensively, the ones who Google their symptoms and somehow tell you what is wrong with them. If you give a different diagnosis they start declaring otherwise. I mean Google could always treat you and you wouldn't need to come and see me.

Sorry, I'm ranting again. I was annoyed very recently by one of my patients.

In other pressing news, Jungkook has been texting nonstop. I thought he'd get bored with my one-word answers but I was wrong. He was resilient and unwavering. He has been asking for the meal that I promised him the first day we met. I have been trying to evade meeting him and delaying it as much as possible but he wasn't relenting.

Since I promised him I might as well keep my word and get it over with. Now that you are all caught up, let's get ready for the said meal. We were to meet in a restaurant he recommended since I was still new to town. Also, he has to choose a place that ensures his safety. I don't want him to be bombarded by fans. It would be so hard to explain why I was eating alone with him.

I did light makeup because I was lazy as always. I'm sure you are used to it by now. I chose the most comfortable trousers and a crop top. After dressing up, I decided on a bag and headed out. My driver was waiting outside to take me to the restaurant. Yes, I still have a driver and I was keeping him.

We drove for thirty minutes before we reached the restaurant. I couldn't imagine coming here on public transportation. The driver opened the door and led me to the restaurant since Seri had a busy night. He spoke good English so we were able to understand each other perfectly.

From the outside, the restaurant looked empty but bright. I wondered why our car was the only one around. Was I in the wrong place? I asked him to check the location once again but he confirmed we were in the right place. Okay, so deserted restaurant it is... This sounds like the beginning of a horror movie.

When we approached the door, it was opened by a well-dressed waiter.

" Miss Avah, Hello and welcome"

" ooh you know my name...thank you" I stammered.

" Follow me in please"

I followed him further into the restaurant. Most of the tables and chairs were removed and all that was left was one table at the center. Okay, Jungkook, let's see what you have planned. He pulled my seat for me and made sure I was comfortable. The table was decorated with beautiful candlelight, flowers, and a golden cutlery set.

So where was the man of the hour?

" Mr. Jungkook is in the kitchen preparing your meal" he answered a question I didn't ask out loud

" He is cooking for me?" I asked surprised

" Yes Miss "

" I would like to see this with my own eyes. Take me to him"

The waiter took me to the kitchen. And I was mesmerized. I stood at the door and quietly observed him. He moved beautifully as he cut the ingredients and cooked. He had the recipe crammed so I was impressed. We all know he could cook but seeing it in real life was different. It was thrilling.

He handled his knife well and it got me thinking of someone else who couldn't cook at all but was still cool. Namjoon. I missed him. I missed my giant bear. Why was I calling him mine when he wasn't even mine, to begin with? Avah focus!!!!!

When I went to look back at him, our eyes locked.

" Hi," he said

" Hello " I smiled

" You are here"

" yes, I am. I didn't think you would cook yourself "

" I wanted it to be a surprise " he explained

" As far as I can recall I owed you a meal and not the other way round" I spoke as I approached him.

" Well we both know that's not true" he joked

" It is though. So how much will you charge me for this meal, Mr Jungkook? "

" Zero"

"Zero? How is that possible??"

" You accompanying me today will be payment enough "

" If you say so" I paused "So what are you cooking?"

" You will see soon enough. I don't want to spoil the surprise " he laughed

I couldn't help but laugh with him.

" Wait at the table, the meal is ready," he said

I followed his orders and went back to our table. A few minutes later he served the food he had worked so hard on. He sat on the chair opposite mine and insisted I should take the first bite. I didn't expect his food to be this good. It was delicious. Was there anything this man can't do?

" How is the food?" He asked

"It's delicious. How can you cook so well?"

"Practice?"

"Makes perfect, huh"

We ate our dinner and he asked how I found the country so far. He promised to take me to some other place after we were done. I wasn't expecting more than a meal but he went above and beyond. After eating we went on a short walk outside the restaurant garden.

The pathway was lit by beautiful lights leading to a cliff. So basically the restaurant was on a cliff, which explains why it took us an hour to get there. The place was well secluded. We found a platform that I sat on as I stared at the stars. The night was clear and the weather was perfect for a stroll.

As I sat lost in my thoughts, I was interrupted by the sound of fireworks. I wondered who put up a display in such a secluded place. I wouldn't be surprised if it was Jungkook. As I watched the fireworks in wonder and excitement, I didn't notice Jungkook's eyes on me. His gentle expression changed as he watched me smiling at the fireworks.
