Where’s Georgie?

Two Days Later

After a long few days of avoiding Michael, attending to Gus's wounds, and nursing the guards hang overs. Gus finally stirred, just a bit and mumbled one word. Georgie. Who was Georgie? Maybe he was the one who shot him? There were a lot of questions adding up that I doubted I’d get an answer to. As I finished checking for infection I went towards the door flinging it open to go through. Hitting Theodore square in the nose. Earning a spew of curses from the both of us.

“Damn it woman would you watch where you’re going?” He spits out viciously. When I looked up with an angry fire burning in my eyes, it was immediately put out by seeing blood on his face, a heavy drip that was already saturating his expensive shirt collar. His nose was probably broken and had a split right on the bridge.

“Shit, I am deeply sorry, I was so in my head about Gus mumbling a name that I wasn’t even thinking. I am so sorry, let me help you please.” I spoke quickly, pulling a hanky out of a pocket on my uniform. I watched his eyes as I slowly moved my hand up toward his face.

“What’d’a mean that Augustus spoke, and he only likes family calling him that."

“He mumbled the name Georgie when I was checking his cuts for infection. That was all.” I spoke quietly pinching the bridge of his nose. He stiffened. “Let's get you to a room.”

His only response was a curt nod.

His nose wasn’t broken but the slit would scar if he wasn’t careful. He was also supporting two black eyes and a scowl that would scare even the most hardened military man. He was sitting across from me in the lounge when Henry strutted in with Andrew James.

“Oy, Theo what happened to yer face boy?” Questioned Andrew as soon as he noticed, causing John to come closer to perform an examination.

“Why don’t you ask that woman?” He sneered over at me. Causing Henry to laugh.

“Did ya finally hit him? I figured you’d last a few more days before a snarky comment sent your fist into his face.” Henry barked out laughing.

“Did some damage too.” Laughed Andrew, Causing Theodore to turn cruel eyes on me.

“It was an accident truly. I already apologized for it.” I defended myself against him.

“What’d ya hit him with, if ya don’t mind me asking, being as your knuckles aren’t bruised?” Andrew prompted.

“A door.” Theo and I both said at the same time.

“A door! Pffft she’s a brave one. And they’re talking alike now. Think he’s hitting that when we’re not around?” Henry elbowed Andrew laughing.

“I think she’s the one hitting him. With doors. Gotta hand it to her, at least she knows what she likes.” Winked Andrew but I missed it because Theo and I were staring at each other.

“Fuck off, Andrew.”

“What a pain,” Theo muttered as he broke eye contact and stood. Dropping his cigarette to the ground and snuffing it out with his shoe. Storming over to the window to look out towards the bleak streets. “You gonna tell them what you heard or am I gonna have to do it?” He spoke into the window. His reflection showed an unreadable face. So handsome, but so hard and cruel. What happened to you, Theodore Bennett?

“I’ll tell them,” I spoke quietly.

“Tell us what?” The James gentlemen spoke in unison as Margie walked in.

“What are you all on about? It’s too early yet in the day to be conversing so much amongst yourselves.

“The pretty little nurse over here has something to tell us,” Henry spoke. Winking in my direction causing me to flush and look over at Theo, who was now turned around to look at me too. Studying the tinge of pink on my face, frowning then turning his head down and inhaling deep on a new cigarette. Margie caught sight of his face, and frowning heavily.

“Did you get into another fight, Theo? What happened to your face?”

“I ran into a door.” He spoke deftly turning around to face the street again.

“A door? You think I believe that when this little tart is over here looking guilty and your cousins are laughing?” Margie spoke slowly. Walking towards me.

“Evylynn had just opened the door out uh Gus's room when I was walking into it. Wrong place wrong time sorta thing.” He spoke surely, his back still facing us.

“That true?” She growled at me.

“Yes ma’am,” I spoke quietly. Watching Theo's reflection in the window. Why was he hiding his face from her?

“Evy baby here was just getting ready to tell us something important Aunt Marg,” Henry spoke quietly from across the room.

“And what could this tart tell me that is important enough to listen to.”

“Mom enough. Just listen to her and stop gabbin your teeth.” Theo said shrewdly the fire in his temper was starting to burn again.

“I don’t know who you think you’re talking to boy,” Margie said frowning, turning to walk towards Michael as he turned to face her. His eyes were burning with deep hatred and anger.

“I’m not a fucking kid anymore. Stop trying to parent me.”

“You’re my kid and you’ll do as your told.”

“I’m 24 years old.”

“And you believe that makes you a man? You’re still just a boy.”

The heat in their argument was rising. Their voices are full of malice and anger. Were these two really mother and son? How could he be so hateful? How could she be so cruel? Their tempers got the best of them until they were in each other's faces screaming. Henry and Andrew eventually stepped in between them Theo’s fist made contact with Henry's face as he tried to restrain him.

“Enough!” A voice bellowed from the door. They all froze immediately, heads turning slowly to the figure in the door. The James clan gasped as they took in Gus. Panting heavily and hunched over.

“Where’s Georgie?” He gasped out just before losing consciousness again.
