Chapter 4
I stared at the Adonis in front of me. He was absolutely gorgeous. He had inky black hair that looked like tousled. His jaw was perfectly defined, his face sculpted. Before I could complete my inspection of him, Martha spoke.
"Oh darling, you're here! I was just about to call you."
Darling? I turned to Henry who was watching me with interest. I gave him a dirty look, knowing what was going on in that gutter of a mind. "Don't even think it," I hissed and he pulled me closer to him.
"Think what cupcake?" he said so loudly that his mom's face turned towards us. I blushed and glared at Henry. He really knew how to get on my nerves.
"Mother," the Adonis said in an almost cajoling voice as he hugged Martha. He took one look at us then his travelled down to where Henry's arm was around my waist. Instinctively, I moved closer to Henry making him look down at me questioningly. I shook my head, giving him a small smile. Martha releases the boy when she had had her fill of hugging me. She turned to us.
"Oh!" she exclaimed, "How rude am I! Michael honey, this is Jessica, Henry's girlfriend. Jessica, this is Michael, Henry's older brother."
I gave Michael a small smile as Henry moved his hand away from my waist and man hugged Michael. "How are you?" Michael asked Henry.
Henry smiled and I saw the reverence he had for his brother, making me wonder why he had that kind of reverence. "Doing great! What about you?"
They pulled back and Henry's hand was around my waist again. "Great! I see you have a girlfriend. How long have you been going out?"
"Six months," Henry announced and if I didn't know I would have been convinced. That boy should really consider acting.
"That's good." Michael said, but his tone showed that that was not good at all. Then he turned to me, "So how long before you run away with his money?"
The next thing I did surprised me. My hand connected with his cheek and he looked absolutely stunned. "I do not give a fuck about Henry's money," I hissed. "I don't know what you think of women but let me assure you, I wouldn't take a penny from Henry or his bank account."
I walked out of the house, fuming. I couldn't believe how casually he asked me the question. As if he was talking about the fucking weather! I didn't know where I was going, but I knew that I wasn't staying in a house where every-fucking-body thought that I was some money laundering scum. I heard Henry call out behind me and unwillingly I stopped.
I didn't turn around. Henry stood in front of me, panting. He looked at me apologetically. "I'm so sorry Jess! Michael was way out of line. He usually isn't like that."
"I can't believe he asked me that," I gasped, "Answer me this, Henry Perez. Do I look like a fucking rag from the streets that the first thing people assume is that I even talk to you for money?"
Henry sighed. He knew how touchy the topic was for me. "You look like a strong girl who is capable of handling the world, not a rag from the streets."
I could feel myself breaking. "Then why...?"
Henry gave me a sad smile. Sometimes when his serious side came out and I instantly knew that I had either hit a soft spot or there was another story behind it. "You have to understand Jess. When people have money, there are other people who will stoop down to any level to get at least a part of the money."
"Women," I stated flatly and he nodded.
"If you want to leave, I can understand. I'll book us the next flight out and we can stay in a hotel until then."
I shook my head. "I'm not going to leave. This is your family and I can't let you cut short a visit because of me. You were looking forward to this and I'm not going to mess it up for you just because of one stupid comment."
"Just," Henry sighed as if looking for the right words. "Just stay away from Michael, alright?"
I laughed, "Don't worry. I was planning on it. And I'm sorry for walking out like that."
Henry pulled me into a hug and kissed my hair. "Its okay, I honestly didn't expect you to stay. You're the best friend a person could ask for."
I pulled back and smirked at him, "Of course I am, I'm absolutely amazing."
He shook his head at my comment and took my hand as we walked inside the house again. "Oh by the way," I whispered and Henry looked at me, "Is there any way we can get away with discussing how hot Ian Somehalder is?"
Henry laughed and shook his head, "No I don't think so."
I faked an exaggerated sigh, "Oh damn! I was looking forward to it."
Henry laughed again and I froze as we entered the house. Michael was standing there with Martha, and there wasn't even an inkling of remorse on his face. His mother nudged him and he frowned. Henry tightened his hold on my hand and I looked at him, assuring him with my eyes that it was okay.
"I'm sorry," Michael apologized, but he didn't sound sorry at all. "That was out of line."
I nodded, "I'm sorry for slapping you." Now that I thought about it, I really shouldn't have done that. I know that he crossed a line, but I wasn't usually a violent person. He just gave me a dark look. On impulse I knew that he wasn't everything he seemed to show himself to be. He looked so brooding and...dangerous. I really wouldn't want to get on this man's bad side.
"Honey," Martha said. "Will you and Jessica be staying in the same room?"
Before Henry could answer, I said, "Only if its okay with you Mrs--" I stopped when she shot me a look, "I mean Martha. We really don't mind not sharing a room."
"Speak for yourself," Henry muttered loudly. I gave him a look, hut the playfulness in his eyes made me want to laugh.
"You are not going to be staying in the same room," Michael said and I resisted the urge to flip him the bird. He certainly deserved it. Martha looked at him in surprise, and it seemed like an unspoken conversation took place between them. She nodded. "He's right. Henry's father wouldn't like it much."
I gave her a warm smile, "Its okay Martha. It's only two weeks."
"I already had the staff move your bags upstairs, Henry honey, go and show Jess the room. All three of you freshen up and we will meet for tea in two hours," she said and without waiting for us to answer she walked off.
Henry started walking up the stairs, my hand still in his. I could feel that he was mad. At what, I didn't know. Was it because of his brother? "Why are you angry?" I asked and Henry shot me a look which told me that he was going to tell me everything later.
We walked into a corridor, with doors covering either side. There seemed to be a lot of rooms here for a family of four. He opened the second door on our right and I gasped. The room was amazing. There was a large king size bed in the middle, covered with, what I suspected, silk sheets. One end of the room had French windows which made the room look alive. The sunlight shone through the windows, making some parts of the room look magical.
"Wow," I gasped. Henry chuckled behind me.
"I never thought Id see Jessica King surprised".
I turned around and hit his arm. "You know," I said conversationally, "Sometimes, I think that you're just faking being gay so that you can hang out with me."
He gave me a dirty look. "Puh-lease girl! Don't put yourself that high! I'm proud to say that I am very much interested only in cock."
"You are such a prude," I commented.
"Yes, yes. But you love me," he retorted and I laughed. "I'm going to take a nap, so make yourself comfortable."
I nodded and reached up and kissed his cheek, "Thank you for bringing me here, its really beautiful."
"Even when you have to pretend to be my girl?" Henry teased and I pushed him out of the room, just as Michael walked up the stairs. Henry didn't notice and walked into his room, muttering something about not being able to understand me at all.
I walked back into the room and opened my suitcase, taking out a yellow sundress. I laid it on the couch and took out my phone from my pocket. Music blasted from my phone as I took all my stuff out, occasionally strutting to the music.
I froze when I heard a voice behind me.
"What is your game Ms. King?" I turned around, coming face to face with Michael Perez.
