I was standing at my locker exchanging my books when I saw her walking towards me. She didn't look at me and opened her locker. She was about five lockers away from me and the hallways were pretty quiet although we weren't completely alone. It was a week later and I had seen her a few times but I hadn't gotten a chance to talk to her again after she flipped me off.

"So are you going to tell me your name?" I asked her.

"Why?" she asked me as she looked at me.

"I'm asking nicely aren't I?"

"You couldn't be nice if your life depended on it," she said.

"Ouch, do you like hurting my feelings?" I asked her.

"Why are you even talking to me, I have a boyfriend and we're not exactly running in the same social circles," she said.

"Your boyfriend's an idiot," I said to her.

"And why is that?"

"If you were my girlfriend I wouldn't give someone the chance to talk to you like I'm doing now," I said to her.

"Are you flirting with me?" she asked and laughed suddenly.

"Why do you sound so surprised?" I asked her.

"Because you're Lucas Grey and your reputation is well known," she said and slammed her locker shut.

"So at least tell me your name," I said as I put both my arms next to her shoulders, pinning her in.

"You should leave before JD and Carson comes looking for me," she said. Our faces were inches apart and I felt drawn into her eyes. I couldn't look away even if I wanted to.

I saw his fist too late because I was so entranced with the girl in front of me that I wasn't aware that JD and Carson had walked right up to us. JD's fist connected with my jaw as Carson lunged at me and we sprawled to the floor. I had grabbed her instinctively and rolled so that she landed on top of me.

I pushed her off me as Carson's foot connected with my ribs. I grabbed his leg and pulled him down as I twisted my legs around his and straddled him. I felt his ribs crack as I hit him repeatedly on the same spot and JD lunged at me, pushing me off Carson.

We slid on the tiles as I kept hitting him wherever my hands landed. I was so engrossed with the fight that I didn't notice the crowd around us. Rev came from the side and tackled Carson to the floor as he lunged for me again and I smelled blood.

"Lucas!" Jax yelled as he pulled me off JD. Preston was on top of Rev his hand on his shoulder as he spoke softly to him. Rev gave Carson one more punch and then stood up.

"Go back to your side trailer trash," Carson yelled at me.

"Keep your hands off what's mine," JD said with a glare.

"Let's go," Jax said to me.

I saw her standing a few feet away, she was looking at me with concern and then it seemed that she realized what she was doing and hurried over to JD. He grabbed her arm and started pulling her away roughly but Rev stopped me when I stepped forward.

"No," he said to me and I looked at him in confusion.

"Come on," Preston said as he nudged me in another direction.

"What the hell was that all about?" Jax asked me as we walked to the square outside.

"Not sure, we were talking when JD came from the side," I said as I wiped the blood from my nose.

"Why were you talking to JD's girlfriend anyway?" Preston asked me.

We had an unspoken rule of not mixing with them and we kept clear of their crowd, not because we were afraid but because they were beneath us.

"I don't know," I said and shook my head.

"How are your ribs? He got a few good kicks in," Jax said.

"I'll be fine by tomorrow, what's her name anyway?" I asked.

"Rylee Christianson," Rev said.

"Oh yeah I remember now," I said. She looked different than she did a year ago. I vaguely remembered us being at the same parties when Carson and I used to be friends.

"Stay away from her, she hangs with the Lower Aurora crowd," Preston said.

"So she's Dragonkin?" I asked him.

"Yeah, they all are, Carson weeds out the humans," he said.

"How do you know all this?" Jax asked him.

"I might have been seeing one of his girls on the sly," Preston said and I laughed.

"Why?" I asked him. He was a good looking guy he didn't need to sneak around to get a girl.

"Call it a recon mission of sorts," he said and Rev shook his head.

"Asshole," he said and Preston laughed.

"Let's get out of here," Jax said as we walked to the parking lot. The bell would be ringing in less than five minutes anyway and I had a bone to pick with a boy that was getting too comfortable with my sister.

Jax and I waited by my car until we saw Rory Fletcher exit the school building. We followed him through the parking lot and he was oblivious to the danger lurking behind him. People watched us as I pushed Rory up against his car.

"Stay the hell away from Christina," I said to him threateningly.

"I didn't even talk to her," he said his voice breaking.

"If I see you so much as breathe next to her, you'll be eating through a straw for the rest of your life," I said to him.

He only nodded as his mouth open and closed but no words came out. Jax glared at him for good measure as I let go and we walked back to my car. Everybody stared at us as we drove away and I kept my expression neutral until we left the parking lot.

"I think he peed himself a little," Jax said and I laughed.

"Good," I said to him.

Preston and Rev had gone home already and I was glad. I didn't need Rev beating up on this kid and confirming the rumours of us. Chris stood on the top step in front of the door and glared at us as I parked the car. Baz was mumbling something in my head but I ignored him. She looked furious and I knew that somehow she had heard about the parking lot incident.

"Hey Chris, lovely day out," Jax said with a smile.

"Is it true?" she asked me.

"Is what true?" I asked her playing innocent.

"Did you threaten to kill Rory?" she asked me.

"No," I said to her.

"Lucas I swear!" she yelled at me.

"I said he'd be eating through a straw, I never said I was going to kill him," I said and smiled at her.

"Damnit Lucas, he was going to ask me out," she said.

"What?" I asked her angrily.

"Why can't you just be cool?" she asked me.

"You're not going to a party," I said to her.

"Yes I am," she said.

"Fine, then you can go with Jax," I said to her.

"You're an asshole!" she said loudly and stomped into the house.

"Dude you know I wouldn't be caught dead at those types of parties," Jax said to me.

"And she won't be caught dead going with you," I said and smiled, "I win."

"You make it sound like I have leprosy," he said annoyed.

"She's known you her whole life, she loves you like a brother," I said to him. I knew he felt differently but I hadn't quite accepted thinking of my sister as my best friend's girlfriend.

We walked into the living room as Preston sat on the couch and told Chris in detail about the fight between me and Carson and JD. Chris just shook her head as she listened to the whole story and I saw Jax looking at her intently.

"Stop staring Jax," I said loudly and he looked away quickly as Chris blushed when she caught him.

"So you can get into fights with Rylee's boyfriend about her even though they're all Lower District but I can't go to a party with one boy?" Chris asked me.

"He's human Chris, what would be the point?" I asked her.

"Normalcy!" she said as Hannah sat on the headrest of the couch behind Rev and played with his hair.

"We're not normal and think about how heart-broken your bonded half will be when he realizes one day that you dated humans!" I said to her.

"So dragonkin is better? Like Tessa?" she threw in my face.

"You had to go there," I said to her.

"Absolutely," she said fiercely.

"You're better Chris, Tessa was just convenient and a mistake, one I don't want you to make as well," I said to her and she sighed.

"Popcorn anyone?" Preston asked and Jax threw a pillow at his head.

"You're an idiot Preston," Chris said and he grinned at her.

"I just want what's best for you Chris," I said to her as I walked closer to her and pulled her into a hug.

"I know," she sighed and hugged me back.

"Stay out of trouble, we'll be back late tonight," I said to her and Hannah. Jay and Thomas would lurk around the house until we got back home.

"Where are you going?" Chris asked me.

"The Drake most probably," I said and she nodded.

The Drake was a dragonkin club that we owned. We were still underage so we always went in through the back door and drank in the basement where we also had illegal fights happening. The fights brought in big money and upstairs was the exclusive club that was a legitimate business.

We partook in the fights mostly on weekends and met up with some of our kin from our lair. I took special meetings there and that's also where we took people we wanted to teach a lesson or people that tried to screw us over financially.

Tonight was no exception, it was time to show them who the Sire was.
