Chapter 4: What's All The Commotion?

Chapter 4: What's All The Commotion?

Alpha Roland's POV:

When I woke up this morning, I knew that it was going to be an extremely long day. However, what exactly it would entail would determine how this morning's meeting would go when the time came. I knew that His Highness Himself would be visiting and we would have a business meeting right after breakfast. Well, that was the plan, or so I thought it was made originally. At least, I was assuming that He would show up for breakfast. He would usually set a time and then He would be extremely late due to an unseen circumstance that would happen in another sector of our vast Kingdom. There was more than one werewolf pack out here as I was the Alpha of the Blue Moon Pack.

However, despite not knowing all the particulars about the minuscule details, I got up quickly and prepared myself, and headed out of my room to check on the various things that I checked first thing in the morning. After that, I usually went to my study, but this particular morning I walked around a bit more until it would be time to be called for breakfast. I did not exactly anticipate His Highness to show up too early, as He had never done so before. So why would I expect Him to do something out of the ordinary when I knew His usual character was that He was always late? Then that got me thinking. Will He actually show up at all? I mean, after all, this couldn't be all that bad of a visit, could it?

Once I was satisfied with where I was to head first, I finally headed out of my room and down to the main corridor where the staff was buzzing about getting breakfast ready in the kitchen. I walked by the kitchen first and stood in the doorway and as I approached the doorway, the smells were ever so appetizing. My mouth salivated at the anticipation of being able to taste breakfast. That was when I heard something in the next room.

'Did you hear that crash?' (Rex asked me.)

'Yes, I heard it, Rex. I think it came from the dining hall in the next room.' (I responded to my wolf.)

'Let's go see what happened.'

'Where is it that you think I am going, Rex?'

I swiftly walked away from the open kitchen door to the dining hall and that is when I saw what I did not expect to see. There was a servant girl lying on the floor covered in water by a spilled bucket that she must have been carrying and she dropped somehow. That was when I happened to notice that she was lying next to a chair that was knocked over and apparently broken. Was she the one who was responsible for this broken chair? Not to mention what could have led up to it getting knocked over with the force of causing it to break in the first place.

"What is all the commotion?!" I asked as I stepped into the room, wanting an explanation about what had previously happened.

I made sure to take note of what was going on before the matron who was standing in the room responded. I looked down at the servant girl at my feet and she slightly looked up at me, noticing who I was, and then looked right back at the floor and trembled in fear. She was right to be afraid of my presence. Servants were not allowed to ever look at the Alpha in the eye and upon her seeing who I was, she insured to keep her gaze by looking down at once and to not gaze upon my face again.

"I am so sorry, Alpha," the Matron spoke up at once in trying to gain my attention away from the servant girl beside the broken chair. “The servant was being clumsy and knocked over the chair, causing it to break."

'Do you think that the servant would be that foolish?' (Rex questioned.)

'I'm not sure but I don't have time to get to the bottom of this right now. His Highness is coming and that is my main concern that I need to deal with.' (I responded back to Rex.)

I was not exactly sure about her response and whether it was the truth or not. As far as the servants knew, they would be severely punished if they broke anything in the house as they did not have a way to pay for its proper mending. However, I had too much on my mind at the moment to bother and intervene in this minuscule matter, although I would not have minded involving myself in this particular matter. This particular servant looked like they could use a good treatment since it was my chair that was lying there broken. Despite that thought, the last thing I wanted to do would be to take this matter, in particular, into my own hands when I had other things that were more important at that current time. I made sure to make a statement to that exact effect that the matron was to deal with this promptly so that I did not have to.

"Get this issue taken care of before I do," I said as I took a step forward a moment.

When I made my last statement I made sure to have a low growl emitting from my voice to ensure the intense tone of the matter at stake. Then I gave a description as to the reason why I was not going to partake in the punishment on behalf of the servant. I would have loved to partake in a treatment of a servant, but I wanted to ensure she knew what was at stake, as most servants were not privy to certain conversations nor were they told who would come to our pack house or not. I wanted the servant girl to understand the mistake she had made and the reason for her punishment, which I was sure was to come not long after my departure.

“His Highness is coming today and I do not want anything out of place," I said as I looked down at her once more, then looked back at the matron standing not too far away from her.

"Promptly, Alpha," the matron said in response as she bowed before I turned around to head out of the room and toward my study until it was indeed time for breakfast.

As I continued down the corridor, I did not hear any other further disruptions, so I continued to head up the staircase that led to the upper offices and straight to my study. When I reached the door to my office, I opened it, walked inside, and closed it behind me quickly and quietly. I was looking forward to a moment of quiet time before I had to head out to do my business of the day. I then headed straight for my desk without any further interruptions.

I am pleased to say that I finally managed to sit down at my desk and grabbed a folder that was lying in the center of the top. I assume it was placed there by one of the rather unfortunate servants who ignored the fact that I do not like files to be placed in the center of the top of my desk. Even my Beta knew that files were to be placed in a section on the side, not in the center. I had a particular order about how things were to go when it came to my study. The servants, on the one hand, did not seem to pay attention to that fact and that really bothered me. That is yet another reason why I do not mind taking part in their treatments from time to time. However, be that as it may, I opened up the file and proceeded to read the documents that were found inside.

As I was lost in my own thoughts as I viewed the documents before me, it was not all that uncommon to hear an occasional growl and rumble roaming through the halls of this old timely castle. However, that was when I felt something that was more powerful than the usual growl roaming around here. This particular rumble felt like it shook the entire castle itself from down deep within the depths of the dungeon. I was not exactly sure what it was or who it came from. However, when I heard it a second time, it made me rise to my feet in anticipation of something or someone who might try to come bursting through the door at any moment. I stood there a moment and waited a few minutes and yet still, nothing happened. What was going on? Where did that noise come from? Who could have possibly made that much of a rumble? Then I thought about it for another moment. That was not what I would consider a common growl.

'Do you really think the pack could be rough-housing in the dungeon again? Usually, it is later in the day.' (Rex asked, a bit confused as to the loud intense noise.)
