Chapter 5: Lunch
We got to a very famous restaurant, we walked into the restaurant with Maxwell and Harper and we scanned the room for a table for three
We spotted one at the corner of the room and we walked over to the chair
As we sat to chat, a waiter approached the table and handed us each a menu.
"We have some new specials today," the waiter said. "Do you want to hear about them?" The girl and her friends looked at each other and nodded.
The waiter was tall and thin, with dark hair and bright blue eyes. He wore a crisp white shirt and black slacks, and he carried himself with an air of confidence. His smile was friendly, and he seemed genuinely happy to work here. I couldn't help but notice how charming he was, some humans are charming! and I couldn't help but smile back at him.
The waiter began to list the specials, describing each dish in mouthwatering detail. I felt her stomach growl as I listened, and I knew I would have a hard time choosing what to eat.
My eyes scanned the menu, taking in the many options. There were so many delicious-sounding dishes, and I couldn't decide what to choose. Maxwell and Harper had already decided on their order but I was still stumped. Finally, I decided to just pick something at random. I closed my eyes and pointed to a dish on the menu. "I'll have the chicken piccata," I said. I opened her eyes and saw Maxwell and Harper staring at me, amused.
I didn't have any other option but to close my eyes and pick a meal and I was just realizing how childish that seems
"I didn't know what to choose" I admitted and they both chuckled
The waiter smiled and nodded, writing down our orders on his pad. "I'll get these in for you right away," he said, and then turned and walked away, leaving us alone. "I saw it on the files that you brought along with you that you graduated from Harvard University," Maxwell said
"Yes, I did and I made it first class there" I added, I loved bragging about how smart and intelligent I was but unfortunately Adam made me look like a fool for abandoning my dreams just to be with him
Right now we could feel the anticipation of the food we had ordered. The restaurant was filled with the sounds of clinking silverware and soft music, and the scents of delicious food drifted through the air.
A few minutes later, the waiter reappeared, carrying a tray full of plates. He placed the dishes in front of us, the steam rising from the food and making our mouths water. "Enjoy!" the waiter said, and then he left again. I looked down at my dish, a chicken piccata smothered in a rich, creamy sauce. It smelled heavenly, and I couldn't wait to dig in.
"So Imogen, why did you leave your pack," Harper asked and I dropped my fork on the table and narrated everything that happened to her. This wasn't the first time I have said it in front of Maxwell but I saw the expression on his face, he looked sad but he tried to hide it, well... What did I expect from a human
"That's very bad and I feel sorry for you," Harper said.
"It's fine," I said, I said and looked around the table, and I realized that they were already halfway through their meals. I felt a pang of hunger, and I realized I had been so distracted that I left my food.
I picked up my fork and took a bite of my chicken piccata. The flavors exploded in my mouth, and I felt a wave of satisfaction wash over me. I savored each bite and enjoyed the moment of peace and calm that came with eating a delicious meal.
"They make delicious meals here" I admitted
"I agree" Harper and Maxwell chorused
I was overwhelmed with the benefits that I received from this job, I was given an apartment and 500USD advance payment, and if I start working at this hospital, I would be freaking rich
This is a dream come through! I have always wanted to help the sick but I got distracted by Adam, I was so foolish!
We ate until their plates were empty, and then we set down our silverware and wiped our mouths with our napkins. We all sat back in our chairs, contented and satisfied. The waiter came over with a tray of dessert menus, and we looked at them with interest. I was tempted by the chocolate cake and the crème brûlée, but we decided to pass on dessert. Instead, we decided to order coffee. I loved French food and I planned that when next I come here, I would surely buy French food to take home
Home! I finally had a decent place to stay, "you would resume work tomorrow, Imogen" Maxwell said and I nodded my head, I was so glad I came across the interview online
"We get going," Maxwell said and Harper nodded her head in agreement
We stood up from our chairs, I stretched my legs after sitting for so long. Maxwell paid the bills and then we started walking towards the door. The restaurant was full of people, and they had to make their way through the crowd. The lights were dim, and there was a warm, cozy feeling in the air. Finally, we reached the door, and we stepped out of the restaurant
We walked to the parking lot, and we got into Maxwell's car. We all fastened our seatbelts, and Maxwell started the engine. He pulled out of the parking lot, and drove off.
The car rolled to a stop in front of the hospital, Maxwell turned off the engine and Harper got out of the car, I waved at her and Maxwell turned on the car again and he took me to my apartment
