Chapter 7: First day at work

Imogen pov

I climbed out of the taxi, it was already late, the darkness of the night enveloping me. I looked around, noticing that the street was quiet and empty. The street lamps cast a dim glow on the pavement, and I could hear the distant hum of traffic in the distance. I stood there for a moment, taking it all in. I couldn't believe what happened to me a few weeks ago and now my life has taken a new turn especially now that I am pregnant

The air was cool and crisp, and I could smell the scent of freshly cut grass from a nearby park. I turned and looked at the apartment building in front of me, feeling a mix of excitement and apprehension

I opened the door to my apartment and stepped inside. I closed the door behind me, locking it securely. The apartment was quiet and still, and I felt a wave of relief wash over me.

I dropped my bag on the floor and made my way to my bedroom. I collapsed onto the bed and immediately felt my body relax. My eyes grew heavy, and within moments, I was fast asleep. I slept soundly, my body finally at rest after a long day.

I was jolted awake by the sound of my alarm. I sat up quickly, my heart pounding in my chest. I looked around, disoriented for a moment before the events of the previous day came flooding back to me.

"Holy shit! Today is my first day at work" I said out loud remembering that today is my first day at my new job. I felt a surge of excitement and anticipation, and I jumped out of bed, ready to face the day.

Something kept bothering me, I kept wondering why I fainted yesterday, was it because of the pregnancy? Whatever it was I hope it doesn't happen again today

I hurried into the bathroom, eager to get ready for the day ahead. I turned on the shower, letting the warm water cascade down my body. I quickly washed my hair and body, eager to get out and start my day. I wrapped a towel around myself and stepped out of the shower, the warm air feeling refreshing on my skin. I got dressed quickly, trying to tame my hair into some semblance of order. I looked at myself in the mirror, hoping I looked presentable for my first day at work.

I picked up my bag and headed for the door, eager to get to the hospital. I smiled as I realized that it was only a short walk from my apartment. I set off at a brisk pace, enjoying the fresh air and the morning light. The hospital came into view, its modern architecture gleaming in the sun. I took a deep breath and walked through the front doors, ready to start my new job.

I stepped into the elevator, feeling a mixture of nerves and anticipation. The doors closed, and I felt the elevator begin to move. As the elevator climbed higher and higher, my anxiety increased. Finally, it stopped, and the doors opened on my floor. I stepped out, taking in the busy atmosphere. A nurse approached me, smiling.

"You must be Imogen, the new doctor," The nurse said

"Yes," I replied, wondering how she knew my name. She led me to my office. The office was small but comfortable, and I sat down, finally feeling like I was where I belonged.

A few minutes later, Maxwell walked into the office with a smile on his face. He was tall, dark-haired and his eyes scanned the room. He spotted me and a smile appeared on his face, he approached me with a smile.

Maxwell was wearing a white lab coat, and he carried a file folder in his hand. He extended his hand to me,

"Welcome Imogen," He said, his voice was calm and charming. Maxwell was friendly and confident, and I felt immediately at ease in his presence. There was a moment of silence as we simply looked at each other, sizing each other

Maxwell turned to me and said, "We have a patient waiting for us in exam room three. Shall we go?" I nodded, and we made our way down the hall. We entered the exam room, where a middle-aged woman was sitting on the exam table. Maxwell introduced himself and began to ask the patient about her symptoms.

The patient seemed nervous, but I was calm and reassuring. She began to open up, and I took notes, making sure to ask the right questions.

I took the patient's vitals, checking her blood pressure and heart rate. I then examined the patient's eyes and ears, shining a light into each one. I listened to the patient's heart and lungs with a stethoscope and then asked the patient to stand up and walk around the room. I was gentle and reassuring, putting the patient at ease.

As I worked, I noticed Maxwell's eyes on me and I turned to steal a glance at him, he was staring at me with eyes filled with interest, noticing how skilled and confident I was. A faint smile appeared on my face

I finished the examination and sat down to write my notes. Then, I turned to the patient and said, "I'm going to prescribe you some medication for your condition. I'll also refer you to a specialist, who can provide you with more specific treatment options. In the meantime, try to get plenty of rest and drink plenty of fluids." She nodded.

I read medicine and surgeon and the patient in front of me has a problem in her kidney so I decided to refer her to a specialist I gave her a reassuring smile before exiting the room with Maxwell leaving two nurses to attend to her.

Maxwell stared at me and I softly chuckle and turned to him

"What?" I asked

"I'm impressed by your professionalism and compassion for the patient," He said and the smile on my face grew wider, standing next to Maxwell, I noticed that he was so handsome and I couldn't help but gawk at his amazing facial features
