CHAPTER 17

"After having a conversation with Yara, who exudes so much lightness, I spent the entire afternoon reading and didn't see Adam for the rest of the day.

Finally, I decided to go to the kitchen to eat something; I hadn't eaten anything since the wedding...

Though I have gone longer without meals before, it's different here; I need to stay strong!

As I headed towards the kitchen, a maid approached me:

"Ma'am? How can I serve you?" - she said, keeping her head and gaze lowered, in a submissive manner.

"Please, call me Davina and look into my eyes," I replied.

She hesitated for a moment, raised her gaze in astonishment and a bit scared.

"I apologize, Ma'am, but those are Dom's rules. I would never dare defy them!"

"I understand... Are you that afraid of him?" - I asked.

The maid simply nodded, and then I approached her and lifted her head to look into my eyes.

"Let's do it this way: you treat me as I asked, and I will talk to Adam about this. Is that alright?"

"Yes, Ma... Davina."

"Perfect, much better! What is your name?"

"Barbara, but everyone calls me Babi."

"Beautiful name."

"Thank you, Ma... Davina! You have a divine and strong name, just like you."

"You know, Babi, you are more than a maid... You are a person and should be recognized as such, treated equally."

"Your kindness, Davina, but I'm just a servant."

"Never say that again, alright? You are more than the labels imposed on you. You are a flesh and blood person who goes beyond your profession and role!"

Babi smiled in surprise at the comment.

"Ma... Are you hungry? Can I serve you something?"

"Yes, please. I haven't eaten since yesterday, and I just realized it."

"OMG, how long... You need to eat to stay strong!"

"Reminds me of my mother."

"Mothers are always right!" - she said with a big smile.

"Indeed, I can't disagree."

"Can I make you a snack?"

"I'd love an omelette with cream cheese, orange juice, and some fruits, please."

"Immediately."

"Thank you."

It didn't take long, and Babi returned with everything I had requested. I sat at the table and enjoyed the meal.

"Thank you so much for the meal; it was delicious."

"You... I mean, very kind of you!" - she winked at me.

I decided to explore the house to get to know it better and, of course, to familiarize myself with every corner of it.

I went to the living room and surveyed the surroundings; it was tastefully decorated without exaggeration. I continued to the end of the corridor, where there was a locked and almost hidden door. Before touching the doorknob...

"Ma'am, I'm sorry, but you are not authorized to enter this room!" - said the security guard.

"Really? Who said so? I'm Dom's wife."

"Same, Ma'am."

"I will verify your information, and if you are wrong, you know the consequences."

"Affirmative, Ma'am."

I knew this confrontation wouldn't lead to anything, so I decided to gain the trust of the guards gradually without causing trouble.

"Alright, thank you for the information."

I stepped back and went upstairs. I decided to check the rooms upstairs since there were no security guards in this area.

I arrived at the upper part of the house and opened a door at the back of the corridor, revealing a beautiful library. I was amazed by the quantity and variety of books. I realized that I had been there for a while, reading, learning, and aligning my thoughts, so I decided to return to my room.

I went to the balcony and started to observe, to analyze how I could convey all the information to my father without being noticed.

As the hours passed, and night fell, the security guards changed shifts between 10:00 pm and 10:10 pm, always chatting a bit; I believe they were exchanging details.

Perfect! This is the ideal moment for me to move without attracting attention."

POV: ADAM

After she left the room visibly irritated, I could perceive how agile and perceptive she is when devising an excellent plan. Indeed, her reputation is well-deserved. But that only makes me more vigilant; I cannot let my guard down.

The day passes quickly, and I find myself locked in the office for hours, focused on designing a trap. When I finally glance at the clock, it's already 9:00 PM.

I decide to call one of the security guards to gather information about Davina's movements. To my surprise, she spent the entire day in the library and then went to her room.

"So, it will be like this?" I comment pensively.

"Like what?" he responds, intrigued.

"Will you use her for managing the Mafia too?"

"Why does that bother you so much?" I ask, with a defiant look.

"I don't trust her!" I reply firmly.

"Filipe, I will use whoever and whenever I want. That goes for you too!" she retorts, leaving me speechless.

He swallows hard, realizing that his actions today did not go unnoticed.

I continue, "Don't think I let your affronts today slide. You're lucky my priority right now is to catch the bastards who are playing with us."

"Sorry, it wasn't my intention!" Filipe apologizes sincerely.

She smiles ironically. "Actually, it was. You're quite astute!"

A brief silence hangs between us before I proceed, "Let's proceed with the plan this way; it will work."

"Okay, I'll start the preparations," he agrees, relieved to have a chance to redeem his position.

I conclude the conversation with determination, "Keep me informed about everything. We'll go in the next early morning, near dawn."

After the conversation with Filipe, I retreat to my room. As I enter, I notice the balcony doors are open, and there I find Davina, lost in thought. When she turns to look at me, I sense her cold gaze on me.

POV: DAVINA

My thoughts are abruptly interrupted by a deep and captivating voice.

"Did you spend the day locked up in the library?" he inquires.

As I suspected, I was being observed. "Yes, sir, I liked the place."

"The library?" he questions, with an intrigued air.

"Yes, I love books. Through them, I've learned so many things. To be honest, they have provided me with support and meaning," I reveal sincerely.

He says nothing, only approaches from behind, and I can feel his eyes still on me. "The view is very beautiful, don't you think?" he comments subtly.

"Indeed," I reply, feeling his words gently echoing in my ear.

Then, I decide to turn to face him. "It's chilly, you should come inside," he suggests, concerned.

At that moment, I confess that I feel enchanted by the silence of the night and the magical atmosphere of the place. "Actually, it's quite pleasant here. I enjoy the silence of the night, observing the stars, the moon. It's fantastic to imagine how vast the universe is and how small we are before it... We're just a grain of sand in the midst of something much larger."
