CHAPTER 5
ALPHA ZYK
“By the power vested in me by the Moon Goddess, I now pronounce you mates.” Sorceress Gosh pronounced, standing hunched before me and my new chosen mate, Heather Strove, in the throne room hall.
Morning sun filtered into the window panes, as I and my new mate stood side by side ready to take an oath of a life time.
Curt was fuming in rage some meters away from my right. Heather’s father, Alpha Agro had a disgusting grin at the corner of his lip from where he stood few meters from my left. And all the other Alphas watched me in awe taking the mate they chose for me just a day after they made the suggestion.
And my new chosen mate was all beams and smiles in her heavily made up face. She took her time getting ready, maybe she actually thought that I gave a fuck about appearances. We’ll have to see her true personality eventually.
I wondered for a moment if she knew what she was doing or why she agreed to this because she was literally throwing away any opportunity of ever finding her mate ever again. They actually called her smart, so I guess she must have weighed the advantages of her decision.
What is there to lose in marrying the Alpha King and becoming the Luna Queen of the twelve forests of the Werewolf realm? Mostly, nothing.
“You may now mark yourselves to complete the process,” the old sorceress continued before stepping back to give us space.
We both turned to face each other but her head was bowed so I raised it up with my hand. Her dress was sleeveless, making it all the more easier.
As I placed my canine on the crook of her neck to mark and take a few drops of her blood as the tradition demands, I suddenly heard the apprehensive voice of Curt, in my head.
Alpha, we have a situation! Curt’s urgent voice rang out forcing me to stop what I was about to do. “A female whose eyes had different color shades was seen lurking around our borders, she has been caught and they are taking her to the dungeon under the castle.”
“What?” I let go of the confused she-wolf completely and turned to face Curt. “Why should I care Curtis? As you have said, the royal guards have it under control. She might be a rogue wolf for all we know.”
The sorceress and everyone in the room asides Curt was staring at me in confusion. But Curt continued his mind-linking anyway,
“They said she doesn’t only have the feel of a werewolf but also that of a Vampire…”
“A Vampire in our realm? How the hell did a filthy leech get in here?” Black, my wolf growled in fury.
“It’s just a speculation, as they are not yet sure but they said they feel that way.” Curt continued calmly this time around.
“What!” I yelled out and before they could ask me what the problem is, I spoke up. “We have a situation that needs my immediate attention, so I’ll have to put a hold on this mating ritual.” I announced, curtly and the whole room hushed.
“Sorceress, I need you to come with me.” I finalized and strode out of the throne room with Curtis and the sorceress quietly walking behind me.
As I came out of the castle, I met about ten patrol guards in the all black uniform waiting beside a car. They all bowed their heads immediately they saw me, standing attention.
“Speak,” I demanded and the one who seemed to be their leader stepped forward. He bowed again before making his report.
“Your grace,” he started, “While I and my men were keeping watch over our borders, we caught the sight of a female and as she saw us she started to run and we began to—”
“Tell me what really happened, sergeant,” I cut him off, getting bored of his story telling.
“Her eyes,” he gasped at the words as if he still couldn’t get over the experience, “At first she had the feeling of a werewolf but when we raised her head up, every part of her pupils turned red, glowing red! So we assumed she must be a vampire or some weird creature.”
“Where is she?” I asked, almost rolling my eyes at his overreaction.
“She is in the dungeon, your grace.” he replied, pointing down. “The farthest end.”
“Alright, you can go back to your post. You all have done well.” I said dismissing them. They all scrambled into the car and drove off.
“Let’s go in,” I nodded towards Curt and the Sorceress, but Curt held my hand in an indication to stop me.
“What?” I asked him, feeling irritated at his sudden reluctance.
“She might be really dangerous, Alpha,” he muttered, his forehead creased with worried lines. “The patrol guards didn’t have to go, they could just follow us in since we have no idea what it is we are dealing with. She sounds really sinister from their explanation.”
“I’m the Alpha King, Curtis.” I stated simply and walked through the door that led into the underground or basement as humans called it.
But we built ours bigger, making it a place where prisoners such as rogues or law breakers are kept, with top notch security made of modern technologies like the alarm system, shocker and of course, royal guards at the entrance.
I ambled slowly into the large hall with empty cages to my right and left side. Our realm was a peaceful one, so we rarely had prisoners these days.
As I walked deeper into the dungeon as the patrol guards directed, my nose caught the sweetest and intoxicating scent that swooned my wolf and I, stirring a desire I couldn’t name from the deepest part of my core
Red velvet and lemon.
The smell got stronger as I neared the last cell of the dungeon, enveloping me in its coziness. Black, my wolf howled with glee and started pacing restlessly around my head as the shocking revelation dawned on us.
MINE!
Black and I chorused in unison in my mind as I began to walk purposefully towards the scent till I got to the last cell. I turned to stare at the owner of the smell and our eyes met and locked causing my heart beat to accelerate, beating ten times faster than normal.
She had the bluest eyes I had ever seen. They were as clear as the blue sky on a sunny day, engulfing every part of my senses like the blue waves outside my window. Her dark hair stopped at her shoulders, enhancing the roundness of her face. A strand of hair, dyed purple and threaded through with colorful beads that reached below her shoulder blades.
She is our mate, this fragile female, is my mate? She didn’t look one bit like a threat. Plus, I could feel her wolf too, though not as strong as I expected.
She gasped, suddenly peeling her eyes away from mine and retreating into the cell with her arms folded around her knees. I heard another gasp beside me and I turned to see the sorceress staring wide eyed at the female. I had no idea she was beside me as I was completely taken by the frightened female in the cage.
Sorceress Gosh turned to me with her mouth agape and her eyes almost falling from their sockets. “How is this possible…? She’s…” her voice faltered as she staggered backward, “She’s a half blood, the first ever hybrid” her face contorted in a way I had never seen before.
“She’s… my mate,” we both spoke up at the same time and then stared at each other trying to digest another round of shock.
“What do you mean she’s a half blood, Gosh?” I grabbed the sorceress by the arm, hoping she was wrong. “I can feel her wolf! She’s a werewolf,” I growled desperately.
“She’s half vampire, half werewolf, your grace,” the sorceress finally seemed to catch her voice.
“What?” Curt almost shrieked behind her and I could feel my chest rumble as Black started growling with pure fury.
“And…” she said peering at the female blue-eyed half blood, “She’s also a mute.”
Another blow, but I couldn’t take it in. “What do you mean she’s a mute?” I asked, my blood boiling over a hundred degree Celsius.
“She does not have the ability to speak, my lord,” Gosh bowed and took two steps backward, avoiding my gaze because she knew more than anyone how I would be feeling at this point.
The rational side of me kicked in eventually, “She can never be my mate!” I let out a hoarse whisper, “A female with the blood of those leeches running through her veins and also a mute can never be my Luna Queen. I cannot bear that much shame!”
I spat and walked out of the dungeon without giving her another glance. Before we got to the entrance that led out of the dungeon, I turned to face Gosh and Curtis who were quietly walking behind me.
“This must be kept a secret between us! I do not ever want to hear it anywhere else.” I warned with clenched teeth.
“Yes, Alpha,” they both bowed.
“And as for the mating ceremony, inform the Alphas that it has been canceled. I’ve seen enough for today.” I told Curt whose mind still haven’t adjusted after all he heard.
I took the elevator from the ground floor straight to my room, cursing the Goddess for heaping such nemesis on me.
The mate I had waited for all my life turned out to be a mute, and a half-blood.
