Chapter 5 Defeat

"The wound looks quite deep, try to avoid getting it wet for the next couple of days," Felicia said earnestly as she tended to Frederick’s wound.

She thought that Frederick would ignore her like before, so she got up to leave after finishing. Unexpectedly, he suddenly asked, "Do you have a driver's license?"

Felicia was taken aback and only realized later that Frederick was talking to her.

"Yes, I do have...," she started to say. However, before she could finish, he handed her the car keys directly and said, "Drive for me."

Felicia Dodson wanted to refuse, but seeing that his hand was wrapped in bandages and realizing that he might be injured and had also been drinking, she knew that it would be inconvenient for him to drive. Additionally, he had helped her three times in a row today, so it wouldn't be appropriate for her to turn him down. In the end, she accepted the car keys.

As they left, Royce squinted his eyes and watched the direction they were heading in.

"Drive? Doesn't seem like a car that needs to be driven by someone so young!" However, the two of them had already gone far away, and Royce naturally couldn't get the answer he wanted.

Holding the steering wheel of a Chevy Corvette worth a $13 million dollars, Felicia was still full of confidence.

*Driving, isn't it just stepping on the brakes, stepping on the gas, and turning the steering wheel? *

But as soon as she had driven through an intersection, Frederick, who had been casually sitting in the passenger seat, suddenly became serious. Felicia had mistaken the gas pedal for the brake pedal and ran a red light. They had almost collided with a vehicle crossing the road, causing a traffic jam.

"Are you sure you really have a driver's license?"

"Yes, but I haven't driven since I got my license," Felicia said. The sound of other cars honking desperately surrounded them, and Felicia began to feel guilty as she turned to look at Frederick.

Outside the car window, The light from outside the car fell onto Frederick. The shadows caused his profile to show some unsettling facial features. He glanced back at her, and whether it was the light or not, Felicia felt that Frederick’s gaze was much deeper than before.

"Is it safe for you to drive to your apartment from here? It's relatively close," he asked.

"I should be able to." Felicia lacked confidence in her tone.

When she drove to her apartment building where she lived, she found her back soaked through.

"This is home. Do you want me to call a ride share for you?"

She had no desire to touch the steering wheel of this car again. If she damaged it, she would have to pay with her life.

But Frederick did not reply. He opened the car door and got out on his own.

When Felicia caught up, she found him already standing in front of her apartment door.

"Open the door."

The man's words were direct and carried an irresistible force.

Felicia reluctantly opened the door, and Frederick kissed the back of her neck, his breath surrounding her.

She knew exactly what he wanted to do.

"Frederick..."

Felicia wanted to refuse.

Messing around with Darrin’s uncle was not a good idea. Once their relationship was exposed, she worried not only about her reputation being ruined, but also about her job.

After last night's love-making with Frederick, she easily fell asleep.

It was the first time since moving into this loft apartment that she fell asleep without thinking about her father's death, her mother's injury, her brother's arrest, and the future of their family.

She didn't even have to worry about strangers breaking into her solitary cabin.

The long-lost peace of mind was what she craved the most right now.

With this in mind, she suddenly pulled back her hand that was pushing away Frederick.

Even if this peace of mind was only for a fleeting moment, she wanted to grasp onto the tranquility in her heart.

Her silent consent allowed Frederick to become even more audacious in his actions.

Compared to last night's drunken state, Felicia was completely sober tonight.

She could feel herself gradually surrendering, gradually unable to resist in the whirlpool of desire.

The next morning, when Felicia woke up, she saw a well-dressed Frederick standing by her bed and felt a bit dazed.

She was remembering what happened last night, while Frederick handed her a business card.

"For future promotions at Trendy Bar, you can follow up with this person. You won't have to go to the nightclubs anymore."

Felicia took the business card and glanced at it.

The card prominently displayed one name - Mack McKenzie.

Felicia remembered that this person was also from the four top-tier wealthy families of New Port, the McKenzie’s.

On his business card, not a single word was mentioned except for the name and phone number. The remaining introduction was, "Frederick Blevins' personal assistant."

"Thank you, Frederick."

"I have an early meeting to attend, so I'll leave."

The man always short and to the point.

Felicia held the business card, a hint of bitterness on her lips.

In truth, last night she just wanted to indulge herself and let her brain rest for a bit.

But now it seems that Frederick saw last night as a transaction.

Her heart ached faintly, but she didn't refuse again.

Whether it be a simple transaction or a deal, at least she didn't have to worry about their relationship being exposed.

Furthermore, if she couldn’t pay the the money to the hospital today, her mother would face the discontinuation of her medication, so she didn't have the time to be overly melodramatic at the moment.

Today is Monday, and Felicia tidied up a bit before rushing to the First Hospital of New Port.

Currently, she is a medical student and rotates as an intern in the emergency department of the First Hospital, so her salary is pitifully low.
