Chapter 5

"Stop. Kelvin. You."

Penelope felt Kelvin's hand moving downward, even through her clothes, she could feel the heat of his body.

She was both embarrassed and angry, and bit him hard.

Kelvin winced in pain, letting out a muffled groan from his throat. He grabbed her waist and pulled her closer, as if he wanted to merge her into his bones.

"Don't. Look at me. Do you know who I am?"

Penelope pushed Kelvin away forcefully.

She stood in front of him, disheveled, gasping for breath, her chest heaving with each word.

Kelvin felt irritated.

He never expected to be so repeatedly interested in Penelope!

Damn it.

"Get out! Penelope! You're the daughter of a murderer, touching you makes me sick! Get out!"

He growled angrily.

Penelope had no idea what had gotten into him, clutching her chest, she quickly walked out.

Just as she was about to leave the room, she heard Kelvin's voice again.

"Penelope, you better be ready to act like a dog!"

Penelope paused at the door, then let out a sigh of relief.

If she had to stay in the same room as Kelvin, she'd rather be a dog.

She grabbed a blanket and laid it out at Kelvin's door.

Being a dog? Sleeping at his door?

She had slept in worse places during her time in the psychiatric hospital.

Compared to those places, Kelvin's doorway was luxurious; at least it had carpet and was cleaned daily.

Penelope lay down and quickly fell asleep, the sound of water running in the bathroom providing a soothing background noise.

Kelvin stayed in the bathroom until his anger dissipated, then came out.

He saw Penelope sleeping at the door, her already frail body curled up into a small ball.

Kelvin felt a surge of dissatisfaction.

This woman could sleep anywhere.

He slammed the door shut angrily, the loud noise startling Penelope awake.

Realizing it was Kelvin's doing, Penelope cursed under her breath but had to endure it and try to sleep again, not daring to fall into a deep sleep in case he suddenly called her.

Morning came.

Penelope's biological clock, honed in the psychiatric hospital, woke her up naturally.

She tidied up her things and stood at Kelvin's door, head down, trying to make herself as inconspicuous as possible.

Kelvin came out, dark circles under his eyes, and seeing Penelope well-rested made him even more annoyed.

"Penelope, I want to see you at the office in an hour."

Kelvin had no appetite for breakfast, grabbed his coat, and left in his Rolls-Royce.

Penelope had to walk to the office.

When she arrived, she found the place filled with a tense atmosphere.

Penelope didn't want to draw attention to herself, so she found a spot to sit quietly.

At that moment, Kelvin's assistant, Ryan Parker, saw Penelope and hurried over, handing her a stack of documents.

Ryan was the only one in the company who knew Penelope's identity.

He pushed Penelope to the office door, giving her a thumbs-up.

"Mr. Davis is in a bad mood today, it's up to you now, good luck."

Penelope was pushed inside, just in time to see Kelvin in a fit of rage.

Three or five executives stood in front of Kelvin, heads bowed low.

Kelvin's brows were furrowed so tightly they could crush a fly, and he angrily threw the documents on the table.

"This is the garbage you wrote overnight! Get out! Redo it!"

Penelope shrank back towards the door, the executives breathed a sigh of relief and quickly left.

Kelvin then noticed Penelope.

He took the documents Penelope handed him and threw them at her without mercy.

"You get out too! Penelope, go clean the floors, that's all you're good for!"

Penelope instinctively tried to block the documents, but they cut her palm, making her gasp and pull her hand back.

She didn't make a fuss, instead feeling relieved.

She turned and quickly left with her head down.

Ryan was standing at the door, expecting to see a tearful Penelope.

After all, she was the new bride, and on her first day, she was humiliated like this.

But Penelope was smiling.

To her, cleaning was better than staying by Kelvin's side.

Ryan went back inside to report.

"Mr. Davis, Mrs. Davis's mother..."

"Transfer her to another hospital, find the best doctors. And make sure the security is top-notch."

Kelvin didn't even look up, giving orders directly.

Ryan was confused; he thought Kelvin and Penelope were at each other's throats, but now this?

"What's the matter? Can't do it?"

Kelvin stopped what he was doing when he saw Ryan still standing there.

Ryan quickly nodded.

"I'll get it done right away. By the way, Mrs. Davis is cleaning the lobby."

Kelvin's expression didn't change, as if he hadn't heard.

He told himself he was doing this to better threaten Penelope.

Meanwhile, Penelope was mopping the floor, her back aching, but she kept working.

Suddenly, a woman stormed in angrily.

She didn't watch where she was going and kicked over Penelope's bucket of cleaning water.

Water splashed everywhere, soaking the woman.

She screamed, "You idiot! Who told you to put the bucket here!"

The woman was Kelvin's supposed fiancée, Audrey.

She had heard from Lily.

The woman from that night had really been married into the family, so she came over in a rage, wanting an explanation.

She hoped to find the woman from that night.

Then send her to live with the homeless, ruin her reputation!

Anyone who stopped her from marrying into the Davis family should die!

Other employees saw her and quietly moved away.

Only Penelope stayed where she was, puzzled but continuing her work.

"It's you?" Audrey saw Penelope and was stunned by her beauty.

It was Penelope!

According to Lily's photos from yesterday, the woman who married Kelvin was Penelope!

"You bitch! How dare you steal my man! Get her!"

Audrey charged at Penelope with her entourage.

Penelope tried to resist but was held down by two bodyguards, unable to fight back.

Audrey walked up to her, raised her hand, and slapped her hard, pulling her hair and cursing.

"Steal my man? You think you can?"
