Chapter 2

Jessica woke up with all her body aching. She pulled herself out of bed and realized that she still had her wedding gown on. She moved to the bathroom, took a long shower, cleaned her body with a towel and came out of the bathroom.

Fuck!

Oh no! She had no dress to wear. What was she supposed to do?

She quickly phoned for room service.

Some minutes later, her room's doorbell rang.

" Who is there? " she asked as she walked to the door.

" Room service, " a female voice said quickly.

Jessica opened the door. " Thank God you finally came. Did you bring the dress I asked for? "

" Yes I did, ma'am. I'm Selena Adam, " she said, stretching a package to her.

" Just to let you know, the dress fee has been paid, " she added.

" By whom? " Jessica asked in surprise.

" I wasn't told the name, " Selena said, scratching her head.

" Hmm, " Jessica was quite worried.

" Can I say something? " Selena asked.

" Yes, go on, " Jessica said.

" It's more of an advice. You can take me as a friend now, " Selena said with a smile on her face. " Well, I will advise you to pay back whoever is paying for your bills as soon as possible. You don't know men the way I know them, they will play all types of tricks on a lady to get them in their bed. Beware of them. "

Jessica stared at her speechlessly and expressionlessly.

" Okay, I can tell you are shocked, right? " Selena snapped.

" No, I'm not. I don't have money, " Jessica said, hoping she did the right thing by being open to someone she had just met today.

" What? " Selena asked with her eyes wide open. " Do you have a job? "

" No, I don't have a job, " Jessica said firmly.

" What the hell! How did you manage to lodge into this hotel in this broken state of yours? " Selena asked.

Jessica stared at her. Selena was staring back at her. They were both thinking.

Jessica broke the silence. " I was thinking, can I get a job in this hotel? "

" What are friends for? I can help with that, " Selena volunteered, smiling widely.

What are friends for?

" Will you really help me? " Jessica asked.

" Of course, I will. While I wait for you here, why don't you change into that dress in your hand, " Selena said, and shut the door.

Thirty minutes later, Jessica had come out of the room. She was looking smart and tidy in the dress.

" Wow, this dress fits you a lot, " Selena commented. " You have a really wonderful shape, so why won't any guy want to pay your bills? "

" Don't be ridiculous Selena, " Jessica responded shyly.

" I still can't believe or imagine that a lady will be as poor as you are, " Selena wheezed. Then let out a hearty laughter. " In my own opinion, only a disowned daughter will be as poor as you are. Tell me the truth, you ran away from home? Perhaps your husband cheated on you. Just tell me what is the cause of your broken state "

Jessica frowned as the events of yesterday flooded her mind. She felt sick to the stomach. " I forgot my phone and ATM card in the cab. I didn't know what to do, so I thought of lodging in the nearest hotel which happened to be this hotel. "

" You should have gone straight to the police station- "

" No. I want a job, I don't want any other thing, " Jessica chimed in.

They began walking.

" I want to meet the manager of this hotel, " Jessica said.

" I don't really know the manager, but I heard his name is Davis Miller. If I am not mistaken, I think I know where Mr Davis Miller's office can be found, " Selena said.

As they approached the elevator, Selena told her about Davis Miller.

Minutes later, they were in the elevator, pulling up to the next floor.

" You haven't told me your name, " Selena reminded her.

" Jessica, " she said without hesitation.

" Jessica what? " Selena asked.

Of course Jessica knew what to expect if she told Selena her surname. Selena already portrayed herself to be a big mouthed fellow. Everyone knew Saul Winters, mentioning her surname to Selena would be as good as selling out her identity.

Luckily for her, the elevator stopped and opened. That was enough distraction.

" That's his office, " Selena said, pointing to a door. " I have a lot of work to do ma'am Jessica and you have taken away a lot of my time. I just hope it's for the best and I hope I have helped you a lot. Now go, " she added, shoving her out of the elevator.

" What am I supposed to tell him? " Jessica asked worriedly.

" I don't know. Just tell him anything but be straight forward, " Selena said scarcely, as the elevator's door began to close. " This isn't your first time seeking a job. You should certainly know what to do, " Selena added, as the elevator's door finally closed.

" Yes, " Jessica mumbled. " I should certainly know what to do. "

Jessica walked into Davis Miller's office. Her hands and legs were shaking. She was wondering how Davis Miller was. Tall, fair, handsome? Confident, complex, sexy? Powerful, ruthless, heartless? Kind, good, helpful?

She was worried. Above everything, she really needed a job and she knew without her CV, it would not be easy getting a job in a reputable hotel like this, except the manager was a compassionate man.

She raised her eyes up to meet whoever was Davis Miller.

She was speechless at the sight of Davis Miller.

" We met before, " Davis Miller said with a smile.

It was the same guy who had paid her hotel bills.

" I'm sorry sir, I think I am in the wrong room, " she said and turned quickly to go.

But on a second thought, she turned back to face him. " I'm grateful and indebted to you for paying my hotel's bills but you shouldn't have bothered paying my dress bill, " she said eagerly.

He looked at her in awe. " You don't know? "

" Know? What? ' Jessica asked keenly.

" I paid for every single thing you need and will need which is sold in this hotel. This means that you can take whatever is sold in this hotel because it has been paid for you. "

She scratched her neck wondering why he was being so generous. No, she wasn't supposed to be wondering. Selena had already told her a lot she needed to know about Mr Davis Miller. The words of Selena refreshed her mind… Mr Davis was a womanizer and a serial heartbreaker.

Mr Davis Miller has quite a reputation across this part of the country and especially in this hotel.

You won't have worked for anybody like Mr Davis before!

You are going to love him, Jessica. Everyone loves Mr Davis.

Especially the women!

And he loves them—providing they don't expect too much or try to hold him.

The trail of disappointed women left in his wake will testify he is a perpetual divorcé.

It doesn't stop them making a play for him, though. Men like Mr Davis don't come along very often. He is enough to make many a woman think it worth the risk of breaking her heart.

The remarks flashed through her mind and she recalled the last remarks of Selena.

His wife divorced him because he was never ready to settle down and he was always finding himself the center of attention. Female attention.

She should have given more credence to her uneasiness at those words at the time but she had been too nervous about the job to pay proper attention to her early-warning system. Ignoring that flicker of unease had been a mistake. Now, as she assessed Mr Davis, she was paying the price of her lapse. He looked more like someone from a bad girl's erotic dream than a professional Manager, she decided with unease and disapproval. Focusing back on his face, she discovered him studying her, amusement shining in those green eyes.

" Why? " was the only word she could bear to say.

" I just didn't want you giving out the most precious and important thing you have, to pay for your hotel bills, " he explained. " If I am correct, those rings should be for your wedding. "

" Thanks a lot. I appreciate it, " Jessica said briskly. " I promise to pay you back as soon as I can. "

" Okay, " he said, nodding, with a smirk on his face. " So, why are you here? "

" I was misled. Actually, I wanted to meet the manager of this hotel, " Jessica said plainly.

" Well, luckily for you, you met the CEO of the hotel, " he said gently. " Davis Miller. "

Jessica was in disbelief. She was standing in front of a billionaire, she didn't need anyone to tell her. To her, he didn't need her money. Maybe just as Selena said, he wanted her in his bed. Her instincts were right. She was to really steer clear of him.

" Does that look on your face signify you are scared of me? " he asked, as he slowly stood up.

If he starts walking, I will start running. If her mind wasn't playing tricks on her, she was certain Davis Miller was approaching her.

Her eyes popped. " Don't come too close, " she wished to say.

He stopped in front of her. " What is your name my dear? "

" Je-ss-ca, " she stammered.

" I know a lot of Jessicas. Jessica Wilson, Jessica Barbara, Jessica Normandy, Jessica Winters— which exactly are you? " he asked, studying her.

" Why do you care to know? " she asked, looking at the table desk and finding it of much interest to look at.

He smiled warmly. " Because, I'm interested, " his charming eyes searched hers. He cupped her face. " Tell me Jess dear. "

She cleared her throat. " I am Jessica Tyler. " Tyler was her mum's surname and she had once bore the surname of her mum.

" Jessica Tyler? Beautiful name, " he said and went back to his seat. " You shouldn't be scared of me, Jessica my dear, in fact you should be very free with me, because you just met the most perfect gentleman in the world. Have a seat, sweetheart. "

Jessica hesitated for a while and sat down.

" So tell me, why do you want to meet the manager Jessica? " he asked.

" I think it is personal, " Jessica said.

" With my manager? Is it personal? Come on Sweetie. Are you having a relationship with my manager? "

" No, " she replied bluntly.

" If it doesn't have anything to do with the relationship, then it has a lot to do with me, so it is not personal. "

" I want a job, " she said straightforwardly.

He threw her a worried glance. " A job? "

" Yes, be it as a cleaner or a cook or whatever, I will accept the job as long as I get paid. "

" I can sense the urgency from your voice. You seriously need a job but not a job as low as that, " he said leaning in his seat.

" What do you mean Mr Davis? " she asked.

" I want to give you a bigger and better job. You can cook, you can clean. I'm certain you can also sing, do house chores, and a lot of things, " he began to say, arching his eyebrow.

" I'm sorry Mr Davis Miller but if you are asking me to get into your bed, you are a total jerk and you are mistaken because I am not cut out for that crap. It will never happen, " she voiced out and stood. " Why will you give me a bigger job without asking for my CV, except you don't have ulterior motives? "

" Yes, " he cut in. " I do have ulterior motives but having sex with you isn't one of them, my dear Jessica. And as a matter of fact, the job I am about to give you doesn't require your CV. Please sit. "

Jessica reluctantly sat down. " I'm sorry for making wrong and unnecessary stupid conclusions. "

" It is alright Jess. Can I go on? "

She nodded.

" I have a son— "

The first thing that went through Jessica's mind was Mr Davis Miller wanted a nanny for his son or perhaps a cook or a housekeeper and he wanted to give her that job. " You have a son? " she repeated. " And you want a nanny for him? "

" No, I do not want a nanny for my son, " he said and paused. His eyes narrowed as he said the bombshell slowly, " I want A-MOTHER-FOR-MY-SON. And I want you to be THE-MOTHER-OF-MY-SON. "
