Chapter 13 Taking off his own clothes

Charles startled him when he walked in. Remington quickly pretended to place the pillow behind him and put on a stern expression. "Why didn't you knock before entering?"

Charles didn't answer the question and instead replied, "Why didn't you go with Sophia? When she went to meet her best friend, you could have gone along to ensure her safety. As her husband, why don't you know how to take care of her?"

"Dad," Remington replied unhappily, "Why did I marry her? Do I need to remind you? It's already good enough that I agreed to move into her house. You have no right to demand excessive care or pampering from me."

"You..." Charles was momentarily angered, but quickly let it go. It didn't matter! He was waiting for Remington to be proven wrong.

After all, when he fell in love with Sophia, he wouldn't even know how much care and affection he would shower on her!

...

In the bustling Chinatown, Sophia and Lilly sat facing each other in front of a barbecue stall with good business.

"Sophia, you like grilled pork belly," Lilly handed it over. "I specially grilled it for you."

"Lilly," Sophia wasn't in the mood for barbecue. She furrowed her brows. "Is something bothering you?"

Lilly lowered her head, and her emotions suddenly sank. Her voice even became lower, "Sophia, I know about Connor harassing you. That day in the office when Connor confessed to you, I heard it..."

Sophia wasn't surprised at all, as she had already guessed it.

Seeing Lilly so upset, she also felt distressed. But she couldn't find any words to comfort Lilly. Because she was the woman who made Connor have a change of heart.

Sophia felt like she had done something terribly wrong to Lilly, "Lilly, I'm sorry. I didn't know Connor..."

After adjusting her emotions, Lilly looked up again. "Sophia, it's me who should apologize. It's Connor who harassed you."

"Sophia, has Connor been giving you a hard time these past few days? Has he been picking on you?"

That scummy guy Connor, when he can't get what he wants, he will definitely hold a grudge and seek revenge. Lilly understands him the best.

"You don't have to worry about him, I have a way to handle him," Sophia said guiltily. "You're behaving so strangely, I knew you found out about this, Lilly, are you really not mad at me?"

Lilly answered honestly, "At first, I felt a bit uncomfortable because you are like my sister, but the fault lies with Connor. His heart went astray, even if it wasn't you, there would have been another woman. Sophia, I just want to tell you that even if I lose Connor, I don't want to lose such a good sister like you."

"I don't want to lose a good sister like you either."

Knowing about this, Lilly didn't blame her, but instead worried that Connor would come after her. Sophia was touched that Lilly didn't blame her, but instead cared for her. But she was angry, "Lilly, have you never thought of getting a divorce from this scum of a man?"

"If it wasn't for the two kids, I would have left a long time ago," Lilly said helplessly.

Thinking about the children, all the words Sophia had to persuade her to get a divorce were swallowed back. Yes. The two children are so innocent. And Lilly's Noah is still breastfeeding and so small. The two sisters chatted for a while.

In the end, Sophia concluded, "Lilly, don't think too much anymore. Now that we've encountered someone like Connor, there's no way to start over. The only thing we can do is to strive to change ourselves and become better. Haven't you always wished to be Mia and Noah's armor, to let them grow up happy and healthy?"

She added, "Put Connor's pain aside for now, focus on working hard and making money."

"Even if we do end up getting divorced in the future, you can still let Mia and Noah see an optimistic and strong mom, who can infect them with your strength and make them strong too. Isn't that right?" Lilly nodded like a chick pecking at rice, tears streaming down her face. "Sophia, only you can comfort and encourage me, and give me strength."

"Cry if you need to, it's okay to cry. After crying, let's eat these skewers of barbecue, and then tomorrow, wake up and work hard, strive to make money."

"Stop crying, let's eat barbecue." After a while, Lilly's emotions calmed down. The two sisters were enjoying their meal when Connor came over carrying Noah.

"Lilly, the child was crying like this and you didn't come back. How could you have the mind to eat barbecue here, how can you call yourself a mother?" Lilly quickly took the crying Noah into her arms. He was probably hungry. She didn't care that they were outside, she sat down, turned her back to the crowd, lifted her clothes, and started nursing the child. During this time, Sophia went to buy a bottle of water.

When she came back, somehow, Sophia got into a fight with a drunken man who was eating barbecue at the next table. Lilly's child somehow ended up in the arms of the barbecue shop owner. Lilly, fearing for Connor's safety, tried to intervene.

The scene became chaotic, with the intoxicated people disregarding the fact that Lilly was a woman and pushing her around. Sophia saw that the opposing group was outnumbered and was worried that things would escalate. Moreover, the strong smell of alcohol suggested that the situation could get even worse.

She quickly called Remington for help, thinking of him since he was her nominal husband. "Remington, where are you? Can you come over?" She hurriedly explained the situation to Remington. His tone was not good.

"You guys went out drinking and got into a fight? Who let you drink?" Drinking often leads to trouble. However, Remington realized that it wasn't the time to blame her. Worried that she might get hurt, he asked, "Where are you?"

"We're at the place where we bought the T-shirts and sportswear in Chinatown where we met last time, Big Joe's BBQ." Remington, wearing slippers and unable to change, hurriedly walked out.

"Wait for me there. Find a safe place to hide first."

"No, Lilly got beaten up. I have to help. I didn't tell you about it earlier. I need to go and assist..."

Remington didn't want to deal with this kind of mess, but he was afraid that Sophia would get into trouble, so he rushed to her. If anything happened to her, his father would be furious.

By the time Remington arrived, the police had already arrived at the scene. This group of people was going to be taken away because they had engaged in fighting. Remington walked over and saw Sophia being taken away by an officer.

"May I ask why they are being taken away?"

"Who are you?" the officer glanced at him.

Remington approached Sophia and said, "I am her husband."

Sophia met his gaze and felt deeply sorry for waking him up so late. But Remington showed no sign of blame, only assessing whether she was injured. He noticed the torn clothes on her back and asked anxiously, "Are you okay?"

Sophia shook her head, "I'm fine, just a minor injury."

The officer said, "Since you are her husband, come with us." At the police station, the group of people was immediately detained for inciting a brawl. The other party's members were also detained. Connor called his older sister Maria Walker. Because Maria had married a local native, her native brother-in-law had some social connections and would surely find a way to get them released.

When Maria Walker arrived in the middle of the night and saw Connor and the others, she was infuriated.

"Connor, do you even realize the trouble you've caused? You cracked someone's head open, and this time you all will at least be detained for a dozen days."

"But he was harassing Lilly first," Connor argued, refusing to back down. "Am I not allowed to defend her?"

Maria Walker glared at Lilly, not caring whether or not Lilly was actually harassed, and scolded her sternly, "It's all your fault. What were you doing, going out for barbecue in the middle of the night? Don't you know how to take care of your child at home?"

At this moment, Sophia spoke up, saying, "Maria Walker, now is not the time to blame anyone. We should focus on finding a way out."

Maria Walker retorted, "If it wasn't for Lilly going out for barbecue, would our Connor be involved in this mess? And you, pretending to invite Lilly for barbecue, causing all these troubles."

Lilly defended her, saying, "Big sister, it was me who invited Sophia out. Don't blame people without reason."
