Chapter 14 Brawl

Maria Walker glared at them, saying, "You two women going out for barbecue in the late evening, all dressed up, aren't you asking to be harassed?"

Sophia argued, "Who says women can't go out for barbecue late at night?"

It was too noisy!

Remington, standing nearby, looked impatient. He had been stuck in this godforsaken place for over an hour. He was the esteemed Master Waverley of the Waverley Group, worth tens of millions, contributing more than half of Opulence's GDP, even high-ranking officials treated him with respect.

When did he ever feel humiliated enough to be detained in a small police station?

His face darkened, "Can't you all stop making so much noise?"

Sophia turned to look at him, saying, "Remington, I'm sorry for involving you."

Remington kept a calm face, saying, "Let's focus on getting out first."

"Get out?" Connor sneered, annoyed. "Once my brother-in-law shows up, there's no one he can't handle. If even he can't get us out, who do you think you are?"

Looking at Remington wearing slippers and dressed in ordinary developer clothes worth a few dozen dollars, Connor sneered even more, "You don't even know your place."

Maria Walker asked, "Connor, is he the poor guy Sophia is eager to marry?"

Connor scoffed, "Isn't he just a poor guy? Poor and incompetent, thinking he's worth too much."

Remington couldn't stand Connor's attitude. With a serious face, he said, "If you were to beg me right now, maybe I could help you get out later."

"Beg you?" Connor scoffed. "Are you not aware of your own identity? You're just a countryside bumpkin, no money, no power. A poor farmer without any background, if you have a way to get out, I will eat my own shit clean."

Remington sneered, but didn't say anything more. He glanced at the police officer standing next to him and requested to make a phone call. After making the call, he sat aside, waiting for his people to arrive.

In less than half an hour, Remington's people came. The person who entered was a well-dressed man wearing glasses. He looked successful and exuded a strong presence. He was obviously an important figure. But when he saw Remington, he walked over respectfully.

The person who walked in respectfully was a famous lawyer who often appeared on television news interviews. He was also a prominent figure in Opulence.

Sophia happened to have seen his interview before. His name seemed to be Lucas Bennett. For a moment, Sophia couldn't remember.

Anyway, Esquire Bennett's cases all started in billions, and his annual income was in the nine figures. This was reported in the news interview.

How did he know Remington, and why was he so respectful and polite in front of Remington?

Esquire Bennett approached Remington and nodded, "Mr. Waverley!"

He originally wanted to respectfully address him as Master Waverley.

But before coming, Dylan, who was with Master Waverley, had greeted him. He couldn't expose Master Waverley's identity.

So, he quickly changed his words, "Mr. Waverley, I have negotiated with the police station. You, your wife, and your wife's friend can all leave now."

Remington faintly nodded.

The other party made a gesture of invitation, indicating that Remington should go first. Everyone was probably about to drop their jaws in shock.

Especially Connor, who had just mocked and ridiculed Remington, had a stunned expression, looking at Remington incredulously.

How could a bankrupt and penniless loser who had to ask his wife for money have such powerful social connections?

Connor was somewhat unwilling to accept this. Even his brother-in-law didn't have such social connections. Where did Remington get all these connections? Could it be that he was mistaken?

Lilly was also surprised.

She stared at Remington, even though he was wearing ordinary developer clothes worth a few dollars and a pair of slippers, he still exuded a strong and intimidating aura.

"Sophia?” Lilly gently nudged Sophia's arm.

"Who is this person your husband brought? He is so powerful that he can get us out in minutes."

Maria Walker's husband did have a lot of influence in this area and he can't even afford to make ends meet.

Sophia also found it suspicious. Remington is clearly bankrupt and has no money at all. How could he know the influential figure, Esquire Bennett, from Opulence?

At this moment, Remington took her hand and said, "Let's go home!"

It wasn't the first time he held her hand, but this time, Sophia didn't resist as much, although she still wasn't quite used to it. His palm was too strong.

At the moment he held her hand, she felt a soothing power flowing into her heart. All the worries and fears she had when she was trapped in the detention center disappeared completely at this moment, replaced by a sense of security and peace of mind.

At this moment, Sophia glanced sideways at Remington's hand, tightly interlocked with hers. It was a very handsome man's hand, a kind she had never seen before, clean and slender, as if it could dance elegantly on piano keys. She couldn't help but take another look.

But she wasn't infatuated. Quickly, she called Lilly who was behind her to walk together. As Lilly caught up, Connor also hurried to keep up, afraid of being left behind.

"Mr. Walker?" Remington suddenly stopped and looked at Connor coldly.

"What did you say just now, did you forget?" Connor's face turned extremely ugly.

He did say that if Remington could find a way to leave the detention center, he would eat his own shit cleanly. But he didn't actually expect to have to eat it.

He awkwardly said, "We're friends, you wouldn't be so petty, right? You won't stop me, will you?"

Remington's voice was cold, "Who said we are friends?"

At this moment, Lilly didn't want to speak up for Connor either. Serves him right!

Sophia also remained silent. She pulled Lilly's hand and said, "Let's go."

Remington told Esquire Bennett, "This person has nothing to do with me, let the police station handle it according to procedures."

Esquire Bennett was the most perceptive, naturally understanding Mr. Waverley III's meaning. He respectfully agreed and ordered the staff to keep Connor here.

After all, Connor did strike first.

No matter how Connor shouted, he wasn't allowed to leave.

"Lilly, try to convince Sophia's husband. He can’t leave me behind like this."

Lilly held her child and glanced back, "You reflect on yourself here."

In the distance, in the car, Dylan saw Remington come out and quickly sent him a message, “Remington, if you're out, I'll leave. If you don't want your wife to know about your identity, I can't conveniently drive a million-dollar luxury car to take you home.”

Remington agreed.

Sophia and Remington first sent Lilly back before returning to the rental house. Since their home was close, they walked back together. This time, Sophia, just like the previous time, didn't ask too much. In theory, she should have asked Remington something. She was so quiet that Remington indeed found her easygoing.

But she was too quiet.

Remington couldn't help but feel uneasy. "Don't you have anything to ask me?"

Sophia countered, "Well, do you have something to say to me? If you do, go ahead and say it. If you don't, I won't press further."

It was rare to come across a woman who was so rational, quiet, and incredibly intelligent. She must have known that if he didn't want to talk, asking would be pointless.

But wasn't she his nominal wife? Shouldn't she ask?

Remington had an unsettled feeling about something. But he still didn't plan on telling her his true identity, so he lied once again, "Two years ago, I saved Opulence's prominent figure, Esquire Bennett. I just called him for help, and I guess it's because I saved his life that he managed to get the police station to release him so quickly."

Sophia let out an "Oh."

It made sense.

Remington looked at her as he walked. "Is there something else you want to ask?"

"No, nothing. But I'm glad you saved that Esquire Bennett; otherwise, we would have been in trouble." Sophia quickened her pace. "Let's go home. It's late, and I'm sorry for keeping you out and disturbing your sleep."

Last night, Sophia woke up from a nightmare in the middle of the night and bothered him. She apologized, and he considered it normal.

Disturbing someone's sleep was something to apologize for. But today, with her excessive politeness, Remington felt uneasy.

Was she being too polite to him?

Thinking about how they were originally strangers, her being polite didn't bother Remington much.

When they returned home, Sophia saw Charles sleeping on the living room couch. He seemed sound asleep.
