Chapter 7 Overthinking
Remington casually replied, "The hotel owner is a friend of a friend. He owes my friend a favor and my friend owes me a favor."
So that's why he gave so much respect?
Sophia found it somewhat reasonable, but also seemingly unreasonable.
What kind of indirect favor could be worth several thousand dollars for a meal and even a bottle of $20,000 wine as a gift when leaving?
She was still somewhat puzzled, but Sophia didn't plan on asking any further. Perhaps Remington did indeed have some connections before going bankrupt.
"Mr. Walker?" At that moment, Remington beside Sophia looked at Connor, serious and unsmiling.
"I remember someone mentioning before dinner that if I could arrange a private room, they would give everyone a live striptease performance."
Connor's face turned pale. He was not only humiliated completely but also felt slapped in the face repeatedly. For a moment, he couldn't find any words to say and just wanted to find a hole to hide in.
"Learning a striptease is unnecessary now." Remington's eyes were icy. "Just remember not to bully Sophia, who is just doing business with you. She's not alone anymore."
Connor didn't know if Remington knew about his confession to Sophia and his intentions to sleep with her. If he did, this grudge might deepen.
"You're not thinking of devouring her, are you?" Connor muttered softly and left with a dejected and embarrassed expression.
On the way back, Sophia originally wanted to ask Remington about his connections. But then she reconsidered.
She gratefully said, "Remington, thank you for speaking up for me in front of Connor.”
Remington replied indifferently, "I just couldn't stand him."
"Whether it's because you can't stand him or you're trying to help me, I’m still thankful." Sophia didn't care about his true reasons for helping her.
She took out her phone and sent a message to Lilly, but Lilly didn't reply. In the past, she would have thought that Lilly was too busy with her children, so she didn't reply. But from yesterday till now, she sent many messages and Lilly didn't reply at all.
Is she sick? Or did something happen?
She was really worried about her best friend. She decided to call and check. She called five times in a row, but no one answered. Now Sophia started to get anxious. Should she go to Lilly's house and check on her?
"Don't you want to ask me something?" Remington asked her beside her.
She turned her head and looked at Remington. "What should I ask?"
"For example, about what happened at the hotel just now..."
"Well, what should I then?"
Remington smiled and glared out of the window.
When they return to the rental house, Remington was still not used to the cramped space, although he was less resistant than yesterday. Just last night, he slept uncomfortably on the sofa, significantly compromising his sleep quality. Afraid that he’d have difficulties falling asleep tonight as well, Remington took the opportunity while Sophia took a shower to exercise in the living room. Sophia showers for half an hour, and he exercises for half an hour as well.
Sophia, who also enjoyed exercising, counted behind him 120 push-ups, 120 Burpee jumps, all in one breath without stopping! How astonishing is this man's physical stamina? Furthermore, his clothes are already soaked with sweat, and each lean and strong muscle on his arms is covered in perspiration full of hormones. He must have done more than just these two sets of exercises just now. His physical stamina is truly remarkable!
Seeing him stand up, Sophia seems a little awkward and hurriedly asked, "So you also like to exercise?"
"I didn't sleep well last night," Remington wiped away his sweat, "exercising makes it easier for me to fall asleep."
Sophia looked at the sofa and suggested, "If you can’t sleep well on the sofa, I can give you the bed."
"No thanks," Remington declined straightforwardly, "There are mosquitoes in the living room, buzzing all night. Is there any way to deal with them?"
Sophia pondered for a moment and suggested, "Before sleeping, I can turn on the mosquito repellent light for you. The condition of the rental house is relatively poor, and there are no screen windows, so mosquitoes will always fly in."
"But," she continues, "in a few days, the property I bought will be handed over, and after it's renovated and aired out for a few months, we'll be able to move into the new house."
"You bought a house?" Remington asks.
Sophia acknowledges with a sound, "I took out a loan to buy it, and I have to pay over ten thousand a month for the mortgage."
Remington asks again, "Which property did you buy?"
"It's not from a big developer, it's a small development. But the environment is definitely better than this Shantytown."
Even if Opulence was developed by an ordinary developer, the price of a house there would still reach several million. A down payment of 30% would require a payment of one or two million upfront.
Sophia, living at the bottom of society, surprised Remington, who said, "I have already found a new job. Once I receive my salary, I will help you with a portion of the monthly mortgage payment."
Sophia didn't say anything. As a legally married couple, she wouldn't refuse if he was willing to share some financial burden.
When she went to sleep at night, the mosquitoes were gone, but the lingering smell of the mosquito repellent made it difficult for Remington to fall asleep.
Since he couldn't sleep, he decided to sort out his relationship with Sophia.
After spending two days together, it seemed that he didn't dislike this kind of relationship as much as he thought. On the contrary, he found Sophia to be different from most women.
The next morning, Sophia still woke up early.
She saw that Remington hadn't washed the clothes he took off last night, so she threw them into the washing machine for him. His underwear, however, she hand-washed and prepared to hang on the balcony.
When Remington woke up, he happened to see her holding his underwear in her hand, causing his brows to furrow tightly.
"Who told you to wash my underwear?" Remington walked over in long strides, his face darkening.
Remington didn't like others touching his personal belongings, especially things like underwear. He never let the housemaids wash his personal clothes. They were put in a separate disinfection and sterilization washing machine that automatically dried them.
Even after drying, he absolutely wouldn't allow the maids to touch them before putting them in the wardrobe.
Sophia turned around, "I noticed that you didn't wash them, so I washed them for you." She added intentionally, "Don't worry, I used a new basin and washed them separately from the socks."
Even so, Remington was still somewhat unhappy.
He grabbed the underwear with a cold face, "You don't need to wash them for me, and don't touch them in the future."
"Must you overthink everything?" Sophia muttered under her breath. But she wasn't angry either. Next time, she wouldn't touch his things.
"I steamed sweet potatoes and yams in the pot, cooked some eggs, and there's milk in the fridge. Help yourself, I'm going to the company."
Although she was a little unhappy, nothing was more important than going to work and making money.
Sophia went to the company full of energy.
Around ten o'clock, when she was about to go out for errands, Lilly called her and said she wanted to see her and suggested meeting at Starbucks.
Not responding to her messages and calls for two days, and suddenly wanting to meet outside?
Sophia found it suspicious, "Lilly, what's going on?"
"Sophia, let's talk in person. I'm waiting for you at the Starbucks in Galaxy Mall."
When Sophia arrived, she only saw Lilly sitting there alone.
"Why didn't you bring your son?" she asked as she sat down.
"I asked my mom to look after him for a while." Lilly pushed a coffee toward her. "I ordered a latte that you like."
Sophia was surprised, "You're wearing makeup today?"
Lilly hadn't worn makeup in years. It was a rare sight!
Lilly smiled bitterly, "Does makeup hide my pale complexion?"
"No, you have good skin," Sophia looked at Lilly.
She couldn't tell Lilly that her makeup was not done very well.
Perhaps it was because of the years of wear and tear that Lilly's skin is not as tender as before, even with makeup, she looked older. After all, she was already a mother of two children. But Lilly's foundation wasn’t really good.
"What brand of makeup do you use? It seems to have some flaws."
Lilly didn't know anything about makeup brands. In the past two years, she gave birth to Mia and then Noah, and she revolved around her husband and children every day.
