Two Wolves Become One

Now, Alorea saw that her fate was riddled with nothing but enigmas, her life filled with nothing but failures, and her future painted with nothing but darkness. She realized she was at a loss in every conceivable outcome.

It was certain that Nathan would come for her now, especially following Demeatris's vile letter. But it was equally certain that she had no hope for a better future. Regardless of what transpired, she stood to lose everything.

If Nathan fell into their snare and was killed by those two villains and their schemes, then she too would be killed, and her tale would draw to a close.

If Nathan somehow managed to evade their traps, defeat them even in his weakened state, and whisk her away from that place, then she would spend the rest of her life in circumstances even worse than her current predicament.

Either way, she had no prospect of emerging victorious. It was a dead end for her, and with a heavy, shattered heart, she decided to end her worries then and there.

"There is only one escape from this," she told herself. "Death."

She must die to survive. The freedom of either heaven or hell would liberate her soul from all the earthly chains. No one would have to label her a queen of shackles any longer.

She glanced down at the tattered red dress that barely covered her chest. Peeking from beneath its straps was her reddened skin, marred by the effects of wolfsbane. She had pressed the dagger against her own breasts while waiting for Nathan. It must have burned her skin, but her heart's tumultuous pounding had been so loud that she hadn't noticed.

Now, the redness persisted. She watched as it slowly spread across her chest. She had only one thought in mind: to take a bite of her own flesh and blood.

A violent protest surged within her, but her wolf was powerless against the magical chains that bound her, forged from the scalding embers of mountain ash. They rendered her wolf impotent, and Alorea despondent.

Just as she was about to bite into the poisoned patch of her skin, a distant outcry of horses reached her from outside.

She recognized it instantly.

"Nathan!"

A loud clamor of men reached her ears almost immediately, followed by the cacophonous sounds of vampires clashing with the mighty howls of werewolves. A war was unfolding outside.

She could hear Nathan's voice as he battled against his numerous adversaries, she could sense that the vampires in the vicinity vastly outnumbered the werewolves that had accompanied Nathan.

She could sense that Nathan was unaware of Scorpio's treachery. He knew nothing of the trap they had laid for him. And now he was walking right into it.

She thought about his wound, the one she had inflicted on his heart with a poisoned dagger.

Alorea knew there was no hope for her anymore. There was no chance at survival.

She drew in a deep, shuddering breath, filling her lungs to their capacity. Without further hesitation, she bowed her head over her chest and bit into the poisoned flesh.

Her wolf growled in protest, but there was nothing to be done as the poison spread through her system like wildfire.

With her life force slowly ebbing away, Alorea fell to the side, the chair she was chained to tipping over with her, hitting the floor with a resonant echo. For the first time in three years, as her life ebbed away, she felt a sense of liberation.

"Ahhh..." She tried to yell, but all that emerged was a whisper so faint she could barely hear herself. As her voice weakened, her senses sharpened. She could hear the men outside even more clearly as they battled each other.

Then, as if by magic, she could see beyond the walls that confined her. She could see everything that was transpiring outside.

Before her vision appeared Demeatris with his lethal, elongated claws, the traitorous Scorpio by his side, and a large number of vampires with them.

Nathan was the only werewolf left to confront them; he was the last survivor of those who had accompanied him. Dead bodies of his pack members surrounded him, and Alorea was shocked to see the three red ladies, each in their wolf form, lifeless.

She couldn't believe that anyone could defeat Nathan when he had those three with him. But there they were, lifeless.

"Your girls are gone now, boy," she heard Demeatris say, and soon he was slowly advancing towards Nathan, an evil grin spread across his face. "We should end this now. End you now."

To call Nathan, who was only twenty-five years old, a boy was an insult. An unforgivable insult.

But there was nothing to be done. It was all over, and Nathan was all alone.

Alorea could see Scorpio wearing a hideous smile. He must have thought that he had won and that he would become the new alpha after killing Nathan.

"Son of a bitch..."

Even as she slowly died, she felt a surge of anger. She still couldn't understand how she could see all of this. These people were outside under the sky while she was locked behind a door, but it felt like she was out there with them, as if she could do something to help Nathan defeat those devils. It was as if she had the power, but she just couldn't find it yet.

The vampires surged towards Nathan, who met them with fury. He was not going to give up. He killed each of them in a flash without even summoning his wolf; it seemed as though he was invincible.

Suddenly, Scorpio yelled in anger, disappointed that no one had been able to defeat Nathan for this long. He rushed forward to do it himself.

Nathan caught him mid-air, just as he was about to shift into his monstrous wolf form. With the alpha's hands wrapped around his throat, Scorpio could only freeze in the air, his blood turning cold.

"I should kill you, traitor!!!" Nathan roared. But before he could do anything, a sharp pain tore through his heart. It was the poison; he hadn't healed from it yet.

Alorea gasped in sorrow as Scorpio dropped to the ground and Nathan clutched his chest in pain. It was all her fault. Realizing the enormity of this opportunity, Demeatris stabbed Nathan from behind, and the alpha howled into the sky.

Then Scorpio came to his front and raised his long arm in the air, his claws reflecting the sunlight, crimson with blood. He was about to slit Nathan's throat!

"Do not worry, Nathan. I will take your throne, but I will be kind enough to send your queen with you to hell."

Alorea couldn't bear to watch. She didn't want to see this. She didn't ask to see this. She didn't even know how she was able to see this.

In agony, she screamed, loud enough to be heard by the birds flying overhead. Not that she thought her scream would do anything to help her mate, she just heard a voice inside her telling her to give it a shot. Her wolf urged her on, and she listened.

The voice wasn't wrong. Like a magic spell, her scream turned the scene on its head. It became dark in an instant.

"What is happening?!"

The two evil men were shocked to their core to see that Nathan had vanished from their grasp. When they saw him again, he was in his wolf form. A dark, massive beast as large as the trees.

"What? How is this possible?!" Demeatris couldn't believe.

But even in his disbelief, he saw the enormous wolf crush Scorpio's wolf form with a single step. When the wolf lifted its paw, Scorpio had become one with the earth, mashed into the soil.

Demeatris didn't go down without a fight. But there was no fight against this version of Nathan. He was invincible.

Soon, Demeatris was pinned to the ground, and as he stared death in the face, he realized something.

"Alorea..."

Alorea stared back. It was her wolf combined with Nathan's wolf. Such a thing had never happened before in the history of werewolves, but it happened then and there. Two mates combined to become one.

Even so, Alorea's physical body remained on the floor, waiting for the slow hands of death.

As Nathan ended Demeatris's life, Alorea breathed a sigh of relief. And the day returned to normal. But now, it was Alorea's turn to die.

As her eyes slowly closed, she saw Nathan push open the door and rush towards her.

He cradled her in his arms, screaming.

"You can't die! You belong to me, bitch!! I decide when you die!!!"

Those were her final moments, and those were his final words to her. Those words, spoken by him, shattered her heart one last time. He still harbored no love for her, only the same old obsession.

So she decided, if fate ever intertwined their paths in another life, she would not forgive him. Not in any of the lives to come.
