CHAPTER 4 Three Years of Contract
Jacob's POV
"Alpha, why are there rumors outside that our next target is Dark Moon Pack?" Beta Allen handed me the topographical map of Aquamarine Pack. "Isn't our next target Aquamarine Pack?"
"I spread the news," I picked up the map and carefully examined it. "Otherwise, how could we make Aquamarine Pack lower their guard? Could our people infiltrate their pack and obtain the map so quickly?"
"Why don't we attack the Dark Moon Pack then? After all, these two packs are very close to each other."
I pondered in my mind about how to construct the attack that would take down the Aquamarine Pack with the least amount of troops, but I still managed to hold a conversation at the same time.
"The Dark Moon Pack has long been rotten and decayed. I think that pack may be destroyed from within before I even get around to attacking it. It's not worth my effort."
According to the information I had received during the investigation, the management of their pack was abysmal. They indulged the higher ranking members in luxury items with the money earned from selling their scarce Moonstone from their operations at their mine, but didn't care about the wellbeing of the rest of the pack members. They even normalized beating and killing their Gamma and Omega's. The pack was already in a state of despair. and most likely beyond saving.
These oppressed lower-level members will eventually rise up and overthrow their cruel rulers. If those Gamma and Omega were oppressed to this point and still didn't know how to rebel, then they are already deeply enslaved in their souls, and I have no need to save them.
"Claude is here."
My wolf sensed Elder Claude's presence keenly, so I signaled Allen to put away the map.
"Alpha, I have good news!" Claude's voice sounded outside the study.
"Come in."
As soon as I finished speaking, Claude walked in with a smile on his face and a document in his hand.
"What is it?" Allen asked curiously.
"It's a marriage proposal from the Dark Moon Pack's Elder Council. They hope that our esteemed Alpha can marry Alpha Saul's daughter Sarah!"
Upon hearing Claude's reply, my brows furrowed involuntarily. "How is this good news? Do we really need to form an alliance with such a despicable pack?"
What else does their pack have besides scarce Moonstone mine that is worth my attention?
My words made Claude's smile disappear instantly, and his expression became serious. "Alpha, I know you don't like the Dark Moon Pack, but their pack has a large amount of precious and rare Moonstone sitting in their mine, and most importantly, only they know how to mine and use it. Instead of annexing them, forming an alliance will not only obtain much-needed resources, but will also avoid wasting troops."
I have to admit that his last sentence hit the nail on the head.
I believe that if I give the order to launch an attack, our pack's warriors can break through the Dark Moon Pack's defenses within a week or even less time. But as long as we are at war, there will be casualties. I don't want my warriors to make unnecessary sacrifices.
Forming an alliance is indeed the best choice to obtain the Dark Moon Pack's resources and support without wasting any of our troops.
Seeing that I had been thinking for a long time without replying, Claude knew he had my interest and attention, so he continued trying to persuade me.
"And you are already 22 years old now. The probability of finding a fated mate after 20 is almost impossible. As the Alpha of the pack, you enjoy the respect and care of the members. So for the development of the pack and for them to have a better life, can you consider sacrificing your marriage?"
Allen, upon hearing this, set down his coffee and questioned Claude, "What if this Sarah is extremely ugly? Won't our pack become a laughing stock?"
Claude's face looked embarrassed. "Alpha Saul has protected his daughter since she was young, and although no one outside has seen her photo, I heard she is a beauty."
"The Elder Council hopes that I will agree to this marriage?" I carefully examined the marriage proposal document in my hand.
"Yes, Alpha, this is the proposal we discussed with The Elder Council."
Although I was strongly opposed to marriage or alliances, after the two packs married, the Berserk Pack would get 50% of the Dark Moon Pack's Moonstone mine production, which seemed like a profitable deal.
After some thought, I agreed to the marriage proposal. Not only for the benefits that we would see, but also because we were currently at war with various neighboring packs, and the pack was not particularly stable. I didn't want to refuse The Elder Council's so-called proposal and cause dissatisfaction among the Elders, potentially leading to further instability within the pack.
"Alpha, are you really going to marry Sarah? Don't sacrifice yourself for something as trivial as this. As long as you give the order, I will lead the warriors to take down the Dark Moon Pack." Allen anxiously approached me as soon as Claude had left.
"Claude is right. Marriage is the best option compared to annexation."
"What if you find Mary later? What will you do?"
Allen's words made me feel depressed. "I won't look for her anymore..."
Mary, the girl who had occupied my mind for 10 years. She didn't show up for our second date. Like evaporating from the world, I couldn't find her anywhere. Perhaps as Allen said, she may have returned to the side of the Moon Goddess.
If she wasn't an Omega, I wouldn't be so pessimistic. Thinking of this, I already had some resentment towards Sarah, whom I hadn't met yet.
She grew up in an atmosphere of oppressing lower-level pack members and was raised by Alpha Saul. Those despicable and proud traits of the Dark Moon Pack's high-level members must have already been ingrained in her bones. She must be an arrogant, selfish person who loves to beat and abuse servants.
This kind of person doesn't deserve more than a glance from me. I won't let her become our Berserk Pack's true Luna!
"Allen, help me prepare a contract. The content is..."
"I will prepare it immediately!" After hearing my request, Allen left excitedly.
After she marries me, I will have her sign this contract specially prepared for her. Our marriage relationship will only exist for three years. After three years, I will dissolve the relationship and let her leave.
During the three-year contract period, she only needs to play the role of Luna obediently in the pack. Otherwise, I don't mind arranging an accident for her to end this marriage early.
