Chapter 2
"Absolutely not happening Draco!" Damien hissed as soon as he heard the idea Draco had come up with.
"You promised you were going to comply no matter how ridiculous it sounded," Draco fired back at him and Damien scowled.
"When you said ridiculous, I had no fucking idea you cooked up something this foolish in that head of yours but then again, what was I expecting? You've always had the ability to say the most outrageous things," Damien said with a frown and Draco sighed.
"Okay, I get it sounds weird and all but is there a reason you can't make such a small sacrifice? I mean, if you do as I asked, it'd make her finally feel welcomed by you and also, you can finally have a one on one conversation with her in a cool and calm atmosphere. Doesn't that sound great?" Draco asked and Damien rolled his eyes.
"You seem to be forgetting that a certain someone won't appreciate your idea Draco and if she finds out about it, she'd kill me." He hissed, still surprised that Draco could even come with such an idea, forgetting completely that it would not help his relationship.
"So that's it? Sheila's the problem? Don't you think I already thought of how to handle the entire situation? If your fear is Sheila finding out and getting upset with you, then I can assure you, that will never happen. I'll make sure she's completely in the dark about it and you just make sure you settle things with Kira and just like that, everyone's happy!" Draco assured but Damien wasn't buying it.
His relationship with Sheila was already on the verge of falling apart ever since Kira came into the picture and the last thing he wanted to do was give her more reason to distrust him just to please Kira.
"Listen Draco, I get you're trying to help me make peace with Kira but I can't have a dinner date with her knowing at the back of my mind that Sheila would not be pleased with me. Kira's presence to Sheila is already a lot to deal with and I can't make things worse for her. If you can't come up with something else that won't make Sheila uncomfortable then I'll just have to leave things as they are," Damien replied, hoping Draco would understand where he was coming from.
"I get you though, you don't want to hurt Sheila's feelings and that's fine but this dinner date isn't just going to be about you apologising Damien. It's been a while since Kira got here and made her intentions known but nothing has been done about it. She can't stay here forever Damien and you two need to actually talk about a lot of things. Starting from the fact that she is your mate and I know you hate to hear it but it's the truth at the end of the day and you both can't keep avoiding it and fighting each other any chance you both get," Draco responded, not willing to let go of his idea.
The fact that Damien kept avoiding being alone with Kira for too long proved to Draco that Damien was starting to like Kira way more than he wanted to admit and he confirmed it earlier today when he noticed how he kept looking at her whilst they watched her train. His eyes held nothing but hate for her and when he and Kira had locked eyes briefly, Draco could sense the awkwardness between them and he didn't like it one bit.
"What more do we need to talk about Draco? I already told her that she and I would never be an item because I already have someone I love and I doubt she wants anything to do with me aside from maybe ending the hate relationship between both our packs. Asides that, we basically have nothing else to talk about," Damien replied and Draco mentally rolled his eyes.
"Okay, I get you guys can't be together and blah blah blah but then what? Are you two friends or not? You need to at least establish a suitable tag for your relationship so nobody gets confused as time goes on and I think the best way to do that is by sitting together and having a proper conversation and what better way to do that than over dinner? Think about it logically Damien and keep your emotions aside. Sheila needs to understand that there is a Kira in the picture and you'll be working with her temporarily but it doesn't take your loyalty away from her." Draco said and Damien let out a frustrated sigh.
This was where the problem was for him; his loyalty. He knew he was still loyal to Sheila but at the same time, he couldn't trust himself to be around Kira for way too long and he blamed his wolf for making him feel the weird things he felt whenever he saw her and everything got even much worse for him after he walked in on her a few days ago.
"Damien, tell me the truth, there's a whole different reason why you're against this, isn't there?" Draco asked and Damien temporarily froze.
The last thing he would do in this situation was admit that a part of him shamelessly desired Kira and since he couldn't be too sure about his self control around her just yet, he didn't want to be left alone with her except it was simply going to be brief or public.
"There's nothing Draco and don't even bother insisting that there is because there isn't. I just feel it would be disrespectful to Sheila and I don't want that cause you know just how she can be and her reaction won't exactly be pleasant. I'm still amazed at how I got myself into a situation where I need to please two women at the same time. I absolutely do not subscribe to this emotional turmoil," Damien hissed and Draco scoffed.
"It's what you get for falling in love with someone who isn't your mate bro," Draco replied and now it was Damien's turn to scowl.
"Says the guy who can't seem to get over his first love even with his mate in the picture. You think I don't see how you still look at Marianne," Damien fired back.
"Oh no way Damien, absolutely not happening! You are not gonna push your situation on me. You know very well that there isn't and there will never be anything between Marianne and I so don't even do that and don't try to change the subject. I'm just gonna give you time to think this through. It's high time you and Kira have certain conversations and know what next. She's an Alpha and her time here is very much limited so you both need to sort out whatever business you have so both our packs can finally maintain a peaceful relationship," Draco replied, getting tired of trying to reason with a stubborn Damien.
"It's still gonna be awkward though. A dinner date? Kira and I have barely had a proper conversation for over ten minutes and now I need to do the talking? What am I supposed to say to her over dinner? You more than anyone should know how awkward I actually am especially when it comes to things like this," Damien said and Draco chuckled.
"Trust me, you'll figure that out once you sit with her cause she, unlike you, is actually less awkward and funny so I'm pretty sure you two will figure it out. I just want you to properly apologize to her and not just for whatever it is you said to her that got her upset but also for how you've treated her since she got here. She saved your life and has been pretty obedient to your rules and regulations so for those reasons alone, she deserves your apology and after that, you both have a proper conversation on your mate situation before finally switching into a resolution for both our packs," Draco replied.
"You've really thought all of this out, haven't you?" Damien asked, not surprised.
"Well, as your Beta and your best friend, I need to do the thinking if you can't so yes, I have and I'm not backing down from my idea until you see reason and comply with it. If I need to get Sheila as far away as possible just to make this happen, then I gladly will," Draco replied.
"Do you not like Sheila?" Damien asked, finally letting out the question he had been meaning to ask all this while. He had always noticed how dismissive Draco was about anything regarding Sheila and he had never understood what exactly he could have against her.
"It's not like I don't like her, I just don't care for her," Draco replied in his usual dismissive tone that still didn't sit well with Damien.
"You've known her since we were all kids though and I don't think you two ever had a fall out or anything so it still surprises me why you always sound so irritated whenever I talk about her. Is there perhaps something you're not telling me?" Damien insisted, earning a mock annoyed frown from Draco who wasn't exactly enjoying where this conversation was headed.
Sighing, he replied. "Stop stressing Damien, it's not that serious. Yes, I've known her for a long time but that doesn't necessarily mean I have to like her. I have no personal grudge against her or anything but I think even you are aware of the fact that she actually has a pretty nasty attitude. I can't deal with extremely rude and unfriendly people and unfortunately, your girlfriend falls under both criteria so she and I will most likely never get along,"
Damien let out a defeated sigh. He knew he couldn't argue on that cause Damien wouldn't be the first to point out Sheila's nasty attitude. Even his late father had pointed out how rude she was but because he loved her, he always overlooked her flaws and focused on her good side.
"Okay bro, whatever you say. Back to Kira now, if I agree to the date, will you promise to keep Sheila as far away as possible from us? I'm not even concerned about her finding out or anything but I really don't want them to meet. It'd be really awkward for me and I would most definitely hate being in between such a scene," Damien said, expecting Draco to understand what he meant.
"That makes sense. Don't worry, your wish is my command. So, does this mean you'll agree with the dinner date?" Draco asked.
"Yes, I permit you to go ahead and prepare a dinner date for Kira and I and yes, you can do whatever it is you want to do as long as you don't bother asking me to rate anything but please keep things simple and calm, I don't want any misunderstandings," Damien responded and Draco nodded his head in understanding.
"You can be rest assured buddy, I'll make sure to keep things very simple and impressive and you should also look sharp for tomorrow cause you'll be needing all the charm in the world if you actually want to get her to forgive you," Draco said to him and he rolled his eyes.
"It's just a simple dinner Draco, I don't need to seduce her or anything and besides, I don't think anything about my looks would help make any better cause we both don't see each other that way at all," He replied and Draco mentally scoffed at his obvious lie.
To Draco, only an idiot wouldn't sense the intense chemistry between them even when they bickered and although they both always blamed their wolves which was partly correct, he still believed a little part of them was attracted to each other and what better way to help them find out than over dinner and all alone by themselves?
"If you say so bro, if you say so. Now, if you'll excuse me Alpha Damien, I have a dinner date to prepare for. I'll see you later," Draco replied quickly before turning his back and walking out, leaving Damien alone and to his messy thoughts and emotions.
