Chapter 3
"Help me!"
The sound became increasingly clear, making all the nerve cells in William's body trigger him to run to meet any officers at the hospital and fail to open the cupboard. The white-haired man couldn't think straight when the cold temperature inside the mortuary could cause cardiac arrest in humans. He's in a race against time, too afraid that the brain stem dies in a magical human who rises from the dead in less than four minutes.
"Help, there's a female voice in the morgue!" cried William with a deathly pale face when he met a male nurse with blonde hair in a purple shirt.
"What the hell!" cried the nurse while pressing the code blue alarm at the entrance of the mortuary, then ran to storage cupboard number 1025. "Why did this happen?"
"I don't know. You have to save him before he dies again!" said William with high intonation.
With a quick movement, the nurse immediately unlocked the 1025 cooler without thinking it contained the bodies that had just been autopsied today. In a split second, the door of the iron crate opened quickly to reveal a woman's body covered in a thin white cloth. The ginger-haired woman got up with two different colored irises. The right eye's iris is golden, while the iris of the left eye is a striking emerald green. He roared, then jumped off the cupboard, saying,
"Snakes! Snakes! Snakes!"
A single thread did not cover the woman's body. He seemed to lose his mind when he destroyed several medical devices in the mortuary. Even when he saw the bodies of William's wife and children covered in cloth, his eyes lit up even more by showing his fangs.
The two men were stunned by what they saw; the woman, who looked more like a monster in children's stories, now looked up and hissed while sticking out her tongue like a snake. The nurse tried to escape to call for reinforcements but was unsuccessful when her shoulder was mercilessly ripped off.
The scream was inevitable until the nurse's large body collapsed to the floor, blood flowing profusely. William's blue pupils widened, and he accidentally tripped over his feet. His butt landed on the floor, hitting the blood flowing from the nurse's body. William wasn't sure whether the man was still alive or had fainted, seeing the large torn wound that could have severed his carotid.
"Y-you can kill me," William stammered, closing his eyes to see the woman's beautiful body. "Do-don't the bodies of my wife and child be there." He pointed at the two gurneys behind the strange human.
No response. William tried to peek under his eyelashes. The monster recoiled while looking at its own body in confusion. A woman with pale skin like marble crying stunned William for a moment. Between fear and doubt, he grabbed the white cloth lying on the floor and gave it to the woman who had just risen from the dead.
A second later, several nurses and doctors came. They screamed hysterically when they saw the body of the blonde-haired nurse lying helplessly in a pool of fresh blood on the floor. They saw a woman covered in white cloth with a mouth covered in blood, a corpse that had been autopsied suddenly came to life without the slightest wound.
"Matt! Matt!" shrieked the black nurse over to Matt's body. "He's dead! Matt's dead!"
"What's going on here? God, why is he alive!" exclaimed the bespectacled doctor grabbing the scissors from the mortuary attendant's table.
"How can he live again after the forensic doctor has stated that he died from a deadly snake venom?" said another nurse trying to move Matt's body.
The woman looked up and looked at William while sobbing. No answer came from her red lips. A sharp nose that smells rancid, fishy, sweet, and rotten aromas. The two different colored eyes also saw various puffs of smoke surrounding the people in front of them with letters and numbers that they didn't understand, except for the two stiff bodies on the gurney.
The woman was confused about getting up after the big war. How could he be in a strange place full of people and kill a man now sitting like a carcass? And how could he have a body similar to theirs when it shouldn't have happened?
Where am I? How can I change like them? Jacob? Father? Mother? Where are they?
He felt he had to leave here. This wasn't where he lived, and he had to find his family around the Gordon River anyway. He sniffed out other scents, but none represented his clan's.
"What the hell are you!" screamed the doctor with a red face as he pointed the scissors at the woman he thought was crazy. He can't wait too
attacked, but at that instant, his neck was bitten, so screams could be heard again, filling the mortuary.
The doctor's body collapsed, and the remaining medics moved backward with racing heart rhythms, not wanting to be the next target. At the same time, William was still frozen, too weak to leave there. A hideous monster in the form of a beautiful girl stared intently while sticking out its tongue.
"What creature is he exactly?" whispered one of the medics, who almost peed his pants.
The snake-tongued woman ran fast like an animal ignoring the two humans who had been killed. William ran after the woman with the strength he had left. Meanwhile, the medics screamed for help to catch a strange woman with striking eye colors.
The capital of Tasmania has been shocked by the appearance of a strange woman who wakes up after an autopsy and attacks two hospital workers. The police vie to find a woman with wavy brown hair reddish to her waist, irises that are a different, striking color, and skin as pale as marble.
Even until the news was broadcast, residents throughout the city of Hobart did not dare to leave their homes for fear of being killed. Many of them associate it with invisible demons or cursed humans. However, some opinions also say that it could be that a woman is a crazy person obsessed with being a reptile, so she has a snake tongue and different irises.
William turned off the television broadcast, which had been broadcasting the ginger-haired girl for almost a week. Both feet stepped, staring at the house window while gazing far away. The night that should be so quiet in autumn has become so eerie. The street in front of the old English-style house looked very quiet, as if there was no life.
William stared at his face reflected in the window pane. The scars on his old face and the dim light adoring his house add to the horror. The man's left hand grabbed a cigar from the pocket of his pipe pants and lit it with a divided mind. But, if I think about it, William saw something strange when he looked into her pupils. He couldn't decipher it because it happened so fast; it was like a car accident that had happened to his family.
"Has this world gone mad? Or am I the one who's out of my mind?" muttered William, sipping on the end of his cigar and enjoying the tobacco before expelling the smoke from his nostrils.
The man with a slightly elongated white beard exhales while adjusting the cylindrical glasses hanging sweetly on his aquiline nose. Now, William's image shifted to his wife and child, causing a feeling of emptiness that was so painful in his heart. Usually, at this hour, they would chat in the living room with Alice, who likes to knit clothes in preparation for winter. The man's tears welled up; he took a deeper sip of the cigar as if sucking back memories that could be forgotten with age.
"I miss you so much, Alice and Jessica," William whispered with tears when he remembered their tragic death.
A few seconds later, a knock on the door from the house's back door startled the owner. William's heart raced as the knocking sounded again and even louder. He reached for the baseball bat on the left near the table for the photo and flower vase.
He approached the white ivory-painted door with stealthy steps, fading with time. Much speculation resided in William's brain; outside the back door, there was no house except for his late wife's vineyard. If it was thieves, shouldn't they break in right away? Even if it was an animal, there should be a growling sound. He thought, how is it possible that animals can knock on the door?
Who is it, then? William thought.
