Chapter 9
"Who are you?" shouted William, brandishing his knife. His limbs were shaking, and the look in his eyes was the same as the one he had experienced during the accident. He feared they would attack and then tear and drain his blood without remaining, leaving William's body pathetically.
Two blonde-haired men with long fangs stepped as fast as lightning and kicked William's door to pieces. The man took a few steps back with chills on his neck, his heart pounding wildly. William should have run away from humans who were not pure. The two vampires were real; William was not hallucinating even when the accident occurred.
“They have red irises. Pale skin like porcelain. They're not more like zombies, William. Sometimes, they are weak like helpless rabbits, but they can sometimes be fierce like monsters. But fear not. You stick a silver gun into their heart.”
With a quick movement, William threw the knife into the heart of one of the vampires. However, his actions were so easy to read that one of the vampires quickly caught the blade with a grin and then said,
"Trying to fight back, huh?" he taunted. "I have no interest in the blood of an old man like you."
"What do you want!" cried William with a knee that was no longer boneless.
"Just a small request," said the vampire as he stroked the blade of a knife and slashed his hand until the blood seeped out. The bloodstained edge licked as if the sharp object was nothing dangerous. “I smell a pleasant scent in here. Can I taste a drop?”
“N-no!” shouted William with a trembling voice. Ah, he's not very good at lying.
One of the vampires wearing a black shirt was furious and pushed William's old body against the wall while choking his neck. William coughed, trying to reach the vampire's neck, but his strength was unbalanced. The bloodsucker was too strong for a man over half a century old to fight against. The oxygen in William's lungs was running low, but he didn't want to give up Stella no matter what.
"How can your tongue easily tell lies when your heartbeat is beating fast?" the vampire snarled at William sharply behind his red irises.
A few seconds later, another vampire unexpectedly screamed when a sharp object stabbed his heart until it penetrated forward. The pale body lay helpless the next instant, with skin turning grey. The vampire in the black shirt threw William's body against the wall until he coughed and felt pain all over his body.
The vampire stepped sneakily into the living room. Dark. However, he could hear the sound of another heartbeat with a scent utterly different from that of the older man there. The intoxicating scent that other humans might not get is what had them come to this place.
He was curious about what kind of being 'it' was. He lied to William about hiding someone. Precisely, he only guessed when crossing this area to find prey. He must get 'it' even if only a drop of blood.
Unknowingly, Stella was hiding behind the table with a sharp object taken from William's furniture at random. She was breathing fast with her heart beating so fast. She can read the mind of a vampire who craves her blood. For a moment, she closed her eyes to think about how to save herself and William.
"Oh, you're here then."
That sound made Stella kick the table with full force until the vampire's body bounced against the pantry. Simultaneously, Stella's right hand drew a sharp object toward the vampire's heart, but it missed. The vampire laughed as he got up and approached Stella with swift movements. Stella dodged and landed a punch right into the vampire's firm jaw. She saw scattered wooden tables; Stella swiftly took them and stabbed the vampire's heart.
"Unlucky!" grunted Stella as the wood missed and only grazed the wireman's left arm.
“Wow! What creature are you?"
Aware of the difference in her iris, Stella throws all the available items. Instead, the vampire threw the flower vase at Stella's head, making her scream in pain. Blood poured between her lengthy hair, making the vampire's eyes shine even more. He took a deep breath in the scent of the blood. The smell of blood was very different from the others. Sweet as honey.
The vampire was licking his lips. "Your scent is intoxicating."
Unexpectedly, William came and hit the vampire's head hard from behind. Simultaneously, Stella beats vampires unthinkingly. She didn't know how to fight and only relied on instinct. Hit the jaw, punch the solar plexus to break the arm mercilessly. William threw a goblet with a pointed tip belonging to his son made of silver and then stabbed the vampire in the chest; blood spurts on his face.
The vampire floundered with a terrifying scream, his eyes wide as if still craving Stella's blood before his body turned grey.
William and Stella looked at each other and then looked around them. All the furniture in the house was shattered. They both still did not expect the presence of the enemy here. William crouched down to pick up a framed family photo lying on the floor.
"We have to get out of here, William," Stella suggested. "We are no longer safe here. How can they sniff out my scent?”
William nodded silently, staring at his beloved family photo. He looked at Stella and said, “We have to go. I have one safe place for you, Stella. And, it seems… like it or not, I must develop something to hide your identity.”
The girl shrugged. "And my eyes. I'm afraid they'll discover who I am from the color of these eyes, William. Do you have a gun? We should at least be on guard during the trip. I'm not a fighting expert."
"We'd better hurry up. And you better wear contact lenses.”
