Chapter 1

"Congratulations, Mrs. Langley, you're pregnant!" the doctor told Patricia Watson.

Thrilled with the wonderful news, Patricia Watson rushed home with the pregnancy test report, eager to share it with Martin Langley.

"Martin, I'm..." she piped up.

"Patricia, let's get a divorce!" Martin spoke at the same time.

Excitement dampened, Patricia forced the word "pregnant" right back down her throat.

"Why?" she asked in a trembling voice, trying her hardest to keep the agony under wraps.

It was so sudden, and she needed an explanation.

Martin pressed his thin lips together, his eyes cold.

"Debbie's back." His answer sent a chill to Patricia's heart.

She paled visibly and bit her lower lip hard, barely able to stand.

Debbie, the love of Martin's life who had disappeared for two years, had returned.

Martin took out a check and placed it on the desk, saying, "Here's 15 million dollars. Part of it is your divorce settlement, and the other part is the payment for donating your bone marrow."

Patricia immediately grew wary and instinctively asked, "What do you mean?"

"Debbie has aplastic anemia and needs a bone marrow transplant ASAP. You're a 90% match. As her sis, you gotta save her." Martin left Patricia no room for negotiation. He was giving an order rather than discussing it with her.

Patricia froze, feeling heartbroken.

They had been married for two years. But now, to save Debbie, who had once abandoned him, he was divorcing Patricia and even forcing her to donate her bone marrow!

"Donate my bone marrow to Debbie? Never! Her mother destroyed my parents' marriage. My mom wouldn't have suffered from depression and killed herself if it weren't for her mom. And now you expect me to save her? Not happening!" Patricia gritted her teeth, hatred surging in her heart as she recalled the past.

"If you've got any love left from our two-year marriage, don't push me. Or I'll never forgive you!"

Martin's heart lurched because of her words. But Patricia didn't notice it. She directly picked up the pen and swiftly signed her name on the divorce agreement.

"I'm moving out. From now on, we're just two strangers." With that, Patricia put down the pen, ready to leave.

Just as she turned around, she bumped into Debbie, who had just entered the room.

Debbie was wearing a white dress, her long hair cascading over her shoulders, her face pale.

"Patricia, I know you hate my mom, but you don't know the whole story! My mom was dating Dad before your mom showed up. But Grandpa broke them up and forced Dad to marry your mom..." she explained.

Before she could finish her words, Patricia interrupted her.

"Enough! If Dad really loved your mom, why did he marry my mom in the first place? Since he chose my mom, he should be faithful. And your mom shouldn't have come to break up my family.

"Debbie, your mom stole my mom's husband, and now you're after mine! What, is it a family tradition to be the other woman?" Patricia looked at Debbie with mockery.

"Patricia, how can you say that? Martin was my fiancé. You're the one who stole him from me, and now you're accusing me?" Debbie showed an aggrieved look and glanced at Martin.

Patricia quickly retorted, "Since he was your fiancé, why did you suddenly disappear the day before the wedding? You ran away because of his disability, didn't you?

"If you had stayed, I wouldn't have married him. Now, his legs are fine, so you want him back. Debbie, have you no shame?"

"Patricia, it's not like that," Debbie sobbed, wiping her tears.

Patricia cast a disdainful glance at her and snorted, "Enough. I'm not Martin. Your tears don't work on me! If you want him, he's all yours. But my bone marrow? Never!"

With that, she pushed Debbie aside and left the study without looking back.

Watching Patricia leave, Martin felt an inexplicable pain in his heart.

But then, he laughed self-mockingly, thinking, 'She's just a vain and selfish woman. How can I have any feelings for her? It must be an illusion. After all, we've been married for two years.'

Looking at Patricia's back, Debbie clenched her fists secretly. Then, she showed a sad face to Martin, saying softly, "Martin, Patricia didn't agree. What should I do?"

Martin replied calmly, "I'll have Alan keep looking for a match for you."

It implied that he let Patricia go.

"But..." Debbie felt sullen.

She had finally found a perfect match for her bone marrow transplant. She didn't wanna give up like this!

Feeling a little irritated, Martin said coldly, "I don't like forcing people."

Sensing his firm attitude, Debbie dared not say more. She lowered her head, a trace of malice flashing in her eyes.

'Give up? No! No matter what it takes, I'll get her bone marrow,' she thought to herself.

Patricia walked out of the bedroom with her suitcase. Looking at the closed study door, she felt sad and unconsciously touched her flat abdomen.

She said inwardly, 'Goodbye, Martin. I've loved you for ten years. But from now on, I'll be staying with my baby only.'

She took a deep breath, forced back her tears, and left the place she had lived in for two years. Then, she drove to the small apartment her mom had left her before she passed away.

As Patricia was taking her luggage out of the trunk, someone suddenly covered her mouth and nose from behind.

Immediately, a pungent smell filled her nostrils.

Patricia tried to struggle but found herself weak. After a brief resistance, her body went limp, and she blacked out.

When she regained consciousness, the intense pain made her let out a painful moan.

She tried hard to open her eyes but failed. She could only smell the strong scent of disinfectant and vaguely hear a conversation.

"Mr. Langley, Mrs. Langley is pregnant. If we proceed with the bone marrow transplant, the baby might die. You sure you wanna do this?" a male doctor's voice sounded.

"She's pregnant?" Martin exclaimed in disbelief.

Patricia, as if grasping at a lifeline, desperately tried to tell Martin that she was pregnant with his child. She thought he wouldn't risk his baby's life to save Debbie!

But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't make a sound.

"Yes, should be about a month along," the doctor replied.

Patricia thought that no matter how heartless Martin was, no matter how much he disliked her, he would spare her for the sake of their baby.

But she was wrong.

"Debbie can't wait any longer. Continue with the surgery. Don't stop." Martin's words were like a sharp blade, piercing Patricia's heart.

She had never thought that Martin could be so ruthless. He was even willing to kill his own child just to save Debbie!

"But the baby..." the doctor hesitated.

"The baby doesn't matter. I only want Debbie to be healthy." Martin's merciless words completely shattered Patricia's hope.

Her heart ached, tears burning hot on her cheeks.

Unprecedented despair enveloped Patricia. At this moment, she finally understood what it meant to be utterly heartbroken.

She tried to struggle, to escape this nightmare, but she was powerless. All she could do was lie there as the cold surgical tools touched her skin.

She cried in her heart, 'No! Please don't! Help! Save my baby...'
