Chapter 2: Uncomfortable mass

Chapter 2: Uncomfortable mass

When I finished carrying the metal pipes, I went back down to mass, feeling like the most disastrous woman in the universe for my blunder with Father William.

He had to get me out of his way, I hoped I wouldn't find him even by mistake.

The mother superior had saved me a place for mass for when I returned and I joined the rest of the nuns, taking a seat and wiping the sweat from my forehead with a handkerchief.

“You took a long time,” the mother superior told me.

If she knew why...

"I'm sorry." I said and began to explain what happened: "The father..."

"Shhh," the Mother Superior hissed at me, "we are at mass, have respect."

I kept silent, pursing my lips, you couldn't talk at mass, but I really wanted to talk about what happened to her before the Father did it and in a very bad way.

«Oh God».

Father William was already there in the pulpit, I could notice his clothing was still somewhat damp as well as his hair, but without a doubt that did not seem to steal the attention at all, because really seeing him was like seeing the same reflection of an angel, his gaze with gray eyes seemed to hypnotize the gaze of all the people there, his mouth with full lips when speaking had a way of capturing attention, his deep, slow, imposing voice denoted authority.

I found myself intertwining my fingers and looking at his face more than necessary, but I had great admiration for his appearance and what all the people said about him, probably like all the people here because everyone was watching him carefully. He looked imposing from his height, for a moment I lost what he was talking about just looking at the shadows in the angles of his face and the shape of his physical features wishing I could capture a photo if I could, I couldn't even pay attention to what he was doing. I said just wishing I could take a photo and save it in my albums.

Suddenly I tensed up when I saw his gray eyes turn towards me and I woke up from my transe, he stopped what he was talking noticing that he was there next to the mother superior, I felt exposed and judged, could he perhaps read my unfocused thoughts admiring his beauty? No, surely he remembered how disastrous I was and that's why I stood out in his eyes.

«Uhg».

I looked down and closed my eyes so I wouldn't be distracted, luckily for me he continued talking, I for my part stayed like that until the mass ended and we were finally able to go to our rooms.

I just needed to get to my bed and sleep.

Suddenly Genesis approached me, touching my shoulder, he was carrying some books in his arms.

"Celeste, Mother Superior was looking for you," he informed me.

Oh, it was surely for more favors.

I really loved helping her, being her right hand, but I felt exhausted.

"Why?" I said to see if it was really urgent or if I could just ignore this and go to my room.

"I don't know," he said, "he's in the office."

Genesis left and I stood frozen in place.

«Oh God».

Surely she knew what she had done with Father William.

I started to tremble, if I found out that I almost murdered him they would surely have me in penance.

I took a deep breath, I had to give him my side of the story and just accept the consequences.

I went to the mother superior's office fixing my robe and knocked twice, when she told me to come in, I entered with a slight smile; controlling myself, but inside I was shaking.

"Hi mother," I said, "how can I help you?"

I looked at her expression, she was focused walking back and forth through the office and picked up a box with a picture of a coffee maker outside.

"I need you to go to the 3rd floor with this coffee maker," she said, she approached me; giving it to me.

I took it making a slight grimace, she was heavy.

I definitely felt like a pack mule.

"Where to?" I asked for.

"To Father William's room," she informed me and she went to her desk taking out some folders.

"Father William?" I repeated incredulously.

«Ugh».

Of all the things I didn't want to do.

"I'm very sure that you don't want me to repeat the things I tell you," said the Mother Superior, putting on her glasses and looking at me over them in a somewhat annoyed manner.

"I'm sorry mother," I said.

She looked at me and frowned, noticing my anxiety and nervousness about going to take this to the father.

"Do you have a problem doing it?" She asked.

"No mother, of course not," I laughed a little nervously.

She smiled, but it was that smile that didn't reach her eyes.

"I thought so," she said.

But, this could affect me because Father William definitely seemed to hate me, he could just refuse to do it and that's it.

"Although..." I began to say, but the mother superior said at the same time:

"We have received many complaints from the father, it is difficult for him to adapt to this place," she sighed exhausted, "he sees everything as disordered, nothing pleases him, nothing seems to be up to his standards, if I hear any more complaint from him, I will have to glue my mouth shut."

I laughed a little nervously.

If the father ever said what I did to him, the mother superior was going to expel me permanently.

I think now she would have to talk to him and convince him not to talk.

"Were you going to say something?" asked the mother superior, looking at me somewhat confused.

I cleared my throat and shook my head.

"No mother," I said and smiled to cover my secret.

"Then go," said the Mother Superior, focusing again on the folders.

«God».

I took a deep breath and left the office holding the coffee maker box to take it to Father William West; the only person who hated me and who was capable of expelling me from this place if I didn't convince him otherwise.
