It keeps Happening
I called Mom as soon as I got back to the Inn. I knew she was going to want me to cut this trip short with my full article or not. She wasn’t going to leave much room to argue with her. So I was prepared for it. But part of me thought she could be right. I have never finished a deadline for my job. I just couldn’t do that now.
“Mom, I’m okay so don’t worry. Some fake cops try to take me to the new inn that I check in. Jon was able to hold them off while I got away and the cops are here again. No, I am not coming home early. I have to finish this article.”
“Ginger, I am not happy about this. You are not safe there. Even with Jon who is the head of the council. So, here is your choice young lady. You can come home early so I can help keep you safe or me and your sister will be there in the morning. Take your pick?” Mom almost shouted through the phone.
“Well, I guess I will see you guys here in the morning because I will not miss my deadline. Oh, and Mom, I love you too." Then I hung up the phone and walked over to where Jon and the cops were.
“Good afternoon, Ms. Snapper, I need a statement from you as well. I’m sorry this keeps happening to you. I have more questions. Thanks to your friend we captured their group. So in your own words can you explain what happened?” Detective Roe asked me.
So I told him everything from when we got back from eating and saw them standing in front of the inn. I didn’t leave anything out. I even informed him that the 911 call should have times and everything as well. I even gave them a description of the man who got away.
“Thank you for your cooperation. I would like to have two of my officers here to keep watch. One in a car out here and one inside the building. If you're okay with that?” Detective Roe
“That will be fine. My Mom and sister will be showing up in the morning. So those will be the only people I will be expecting at this time.” I replied.
“Detective, can we limit the people involved in this case? So we don’t have what we just had happen again?” Jon asked him in a soft tone.
“I understand you, so I will see what I can do.” Detective Roe sympathized as he replied.
He left one officer in the building and he had another one parked in an unmarked car across the street. Next, he gave Jon his card and they seemed to have a private chat. I stayed near the officer in the building until Jon came back. It looked like I wasn’t going to be getting much done today for work. I guess what I have I can at least write what I have and it looks like I’m eating at the inn tonight. Jon comes back into the inn and walks up to me.
“How are you holding up? Are you ready to go to your room?”
“Still trying to process it all and yeah let’s go. I want to tell Mom to take a taxi here and then they can use my car. That way we can have more ways out of a situation if it happens again.”
“Good thinking. So what do you want to do?”
“Well give me an hour and let me write what I have just in case something else happens. Then we can talk about everything and I do mean everything. I also think we'll be eating here tonight.”
“Okay, but I am staying here with you tonight just to be on the safe side.”
I smiled and went to get my laptop to start working. He went to the couch and picked up a magazine to start reading. I worked for about an hour and asked him to call down to ask about the dinner area when it was open and for how long. We found out that it opens in about two hours for dinner and it stays open for five hours. Then it closes for the night. So we decided to go down in about three hours and eat and get some snacks to return to the room. Once that was figured out I went over and sat on the other end of the couch. I was ready to get this talk going.
“Okay, I need you to be honest with me about it all.”
“That’s all I know how to do. What do you want to know?”
“Do you know who is after me? Do you know why they are after me?”
“No, I don’t know who is doing all of this and who is trying to get to you. I have an idea who I think it might be. Now, as far as why. It has to do with who you are. For one you are an alpha by blood and you do have an alpha personality. Right now you just can’t fight as an alpha.”
“Who do you think is after me and what does me being an alpha have to do with anything?”
“I think it’s your Uncle Jimmy and your cousin from your mom’s side. As well now as my ex-mate. They need you dead so they don’t have to ever worry about losing being the alpha of your pack. The one they killed to become leaders of. They have everyone there believing you're already dead. They are just trying to make it true. I need proof of that so I can do something about it. They would like to get rid of me so Mark can try and run for my position.”
“So my own family wants me dead and seems that they will do anything to make that happen. How do I learn to fight like I should? When will I get my other half?”
“Well, I can start teaching you some fighting moves. That will help now as far as you get your panther. I don’t know, because I don’t know what kind of spell your adopted mother put on you.”
“I would like you to teach me and for the spell, we will know more about that in the morning when Mom gets here. Tell me more about Fae species.”
“Good, because you won’t find your mate without your animal. Your mate will be able to help you and make you stronger as well as weak. What do you want to know?”
“I know my father is the king of fae and my brother is to take over someday. But besides that, I don’t know a lot.”
“Well, that explains why your Uncle isn’t going after your brother. And why is he not trying to draw attention that he is going after you.”
“What do you mean?”
“Your father is on the council with me. He is second in charge. He is running it now while I’m away. If he knew for sure you were his daughter and who was trying to kill you, there would be nowhere any of them could hide.”
“How doesn’t he know it’s me?”
“To keep you safe he thought he stayed away and wouldn’t let your mother update him about you, but when your mother died he lost it. He has been hunting for you ever since.”
“But my mother isn’t dead. My adoptive mother told me she was still alive and she still had contact with her. I don’t but she does. I still do not know where she is or anything like that.”
“If she is still alive then they are going to want you alive to bring her out of hiding. That could be why they have been trying so hard to get you.”
“I never connected that thought. I never considered that they would want to use me to get to her. I can’t let that happen. We are going to need to talk to Mom and Nigel in the morning for sure about all of this.”
“You're right. I have a lot of questions for your mother. This is getting more risky than I thought it was at first. I may have to tell your father, Philip, who you are. I didn’t want to tell him until I knew for sure but all the pictures of you and you look like your mother.”
“Well, I might as well tell you. I have been getting notes from some person telling me that my father is looking for command and so is my brother. They sent me my great-grandmother's photo album. My adopted mother knew whose photo album it was.”
“Why am I just hearing about this now?”
“I wasn’t sure if I could trust you and I didn’t know that you knew about this world yet.”
“I understand that. I can also accept that answer.”
We both start laughing and realize it’s time for us to go eat and grab some snacks before the dining hall closes. So we start to head down and we walk in silence. I notice that he is looking around checking everything. So I started doing the same. I start keeping my eyes open more now. I don’t want to be caught off guard again. I look to my right and I see the cop off in a corner and then behind him, I see her. She has a gun to the cop's head, but she is trying to stay out of sight. She doesn’t realize that I see her. I act like my phone just went off and I catch Jon’s attention. So I type on my phone to tell him that his ex is here to the right standing behind the cop with a gun. That she didn’t realize I had seen her. He shakes his head that he understands and we still walk to our table in the back where our backs are to a wall and no one can come up behind us.
“I want you to dial the detective and let him know but. Talk to him like you are talking to your boss or boyfriend”
“Okay, I will tell my boss that it will be easier for me.”
So I picked up my phone and called the detective and he picked up on the second ring. So, I did what I was told. I talked to him like he was my boss but in a way, I can still let him know what was going on. He understood and said he would be there soon with backup. I thanked him and told him I would talk to him soon. I informed Jon what was going on so we ordered dinner like nothing was going on. When we looked up at the waiter bringing our food I knew not to touch the food. I could tell by the way he was looking at us that something was wrong with the food. I look over at Job but he doesn’t see he is about to eat the food I stop him from eating and he looks at me weirdly.
“You can’t eat the food. The waiter in a way told me there was something wrong with it. So I think they have someone in the kitchen as well. How are we going to handle this?”
“Well, thank you for not letting me eat the food. Second, we will figure it out.”
“I think I have a plan.”
“Okay, I’m listening.”
“Well, going to school with humans you tend to learn a few things. Walk over to the drink station like you're going to get a drink and then pull the fire alarm. That way we make everyone panic and everyone will have to leave the building and with the cops outside we can walk up to them like nothing happened.”
“They could get away that way though. But it’s looking like we don’t have any other way.”
“Let’s do this and live to fight another day.”
He gets up and does just what we talked about and everyone walks out and the cops are there checking people as they exit to check them. The cop is the one that has to go to the hospital. But they all got away, and we know they will be back.
