Chapter 6
There were knocks on the door.
It came just in time.
Like clutching at straws, Isabella immediately turned her face away.
"Come in!" Joseph sounded displeased.
Seeing Isabella, whose blush had not completely faded from her face, Luke knew that he had probably ruined his boss's good time. But he still plucked up the courage and said, "Mr. Parker, your father's phone call...."
Joseph understood, stood up straight, and gently patted Isabella's head. He handed her the photo and softly said, "You owe me one. Get some rest early."
Watching the two leave, Isabella vaguely felt that the phone call was related to her, which inevitably made her somewhat worried.
She was about to take a photo of the screenshot and send it to Amanda when suddenly her phone rang. It was her bestie, Helen.
"Bella, how are you? Are you okay? Where are you now?" A series of anxious questions came through as soon as the call was connected.
"I am fine. You can rest assured."
"It's good." Helen exhaled deeply and then said, "You have no idea. Yesterday, just before noon, the company suddenly received a notice saying there was a press conference at the Empire Hotel in the afternoon. When I heard it was the Watson family, I wanted to call you, but I was rushed to the scene by the editor-in-chief, that slave driver. What's even more incredible is that we didn't know what the press conference was about before it started..."
Just as Isabella had predicted, it was indeed a trap set by Amanda.
"Later on, there was cheating and engagement. I was totally dumbfounded! Also, what's the deal with that Mr. Parker?"
Isabella was also a bit dazed at this moment and didn't know how to explain the details to her, so she just roughly explained the ins and outs of the matter.
After listening to Isabella's story, Helen was so angry that she flew into a rage. "Bruno, this scumbag, to hell with him! And Jasmine. Are there no men left in New York? You are her sister...
"Alright, let's not talk about them anymore. It just makes me angry..." Noticing that Isabella had been silent for a while, knowing that she didn't want to hear their names, Helen quickly changed the subject, "Now the internet is flooded with news of the engagement of the Parker family's young master. You have no idea how many people envy you. Joseph is the dream man of countless young girls...
"Bella, I have to hang up now. The slave driver is here again. Alas, I don't know what tough task is waiting for me this time. Let's talk more when we meet next time..."
With a click, the phone was hung up. Isabella was used to this. The capable were always busy. She wouldn't blame her best friend for being so competent.
She quickly opened Line and sent out the screenshot. Without saying much, she knew that Amanda, with her cunning mind, would definitely understand her meaning.
When she put down her phone, Isabella inadvertently noticed that the medicine she bought in the morning was still in her bag. She took it out and was immediately dumbfounded.
Where were the contraceptives she bought?
She clearly remembered the pharmacy owner handing her the black bag of medicine in the morning, and then...
Oh, Isabella remembered. She must have taken the wrong one after bumping into that person at the door. It was her fault for being too rushed at the time. She hadn't even noticed the two identical black bags on the ground.
My God. Wasn't that... that man took her medicine?!
She tried to turn the bag over and found a card from the pharmacy. She immediately dialed the phone number on it.
"Excuse me, did anyone say they took the wrong medicine?"
"Got the wrong medicine? Oh, yes, there was a person who called earlier saying that you should come to this place tomorrow..."
Isabella breathed a sigh of relief.
She silently noted down the agreed location and time...
At this moment, at the Parker's house.
The cane struck the floor heavily.
The sound made one's heart thump with fear.
Gerold Parker's face was filled with anger. He was no longer a loving father. He scolded, "You brat, you came back? You didn't even discuss such a major matter as marriage with your parents. Do you still see me as your father?!"
Gerold had a child in his old age, and Joseph had always been obedient since he was young, so Gerold rarely scolded him harshly. This time, it seemed that Gerold was really pissed off.
"Joe, if it weren't for Kathy saving you back then, you would be the one sitting in the wheelchair now! One must never forget their benefactors. In my heart, she is the only daughter-in-law for me. No other woman should even think about entering the Parker family!" Joseph's mother, Charlotte Price, clutched her chest, her voice choked with tears.
"Mom, relax..." Seeing that an argument was inevitable, Katrina Parker, Joseph's sister standing by, hurriedly advised, "Joe, say something!"
Facing the successive criticisms, Joseph just frowned and remained silent. He had anticipated this scene when he decided to announce his engagement.
Only when they had finally calmed down did Joseph slowly speak up, his tone firm, "I will bring her to meet you guys another day. As for Kathy, I will find someone to heal her legs, but I cannot marry her."
"Bastard...!"
"Kathy! When... when did you come..."
A sudden exclamation from Katrina interrupted Gerold's angry rebuke. Everyone's gaze simultaneously shifted towards the open doorway.
