10. Jealous
For the rest of the week, David continued to sit next to me during every single class we attended together, surprisingly enough managing to keep Nathan away as he even made the effort to escort me almost everywhere within the school grounds.
He kept me company during break time and lunch as well, acting like a bodyguard slash friend -much to Nathan's utter aggravation- and making sure that his unproclaimed leader stayed as far as possible away from me.
I didn't know why he was doing it but to be completely honest, I was so grateful for it because finally, I could breathe in relief and shake that fear of another dreadful encounter with Satan.
Speaking of...
My hand unwillingly clenched around my soda can as my gaze clashed with his again, watching him intently stare right back at me from his seat all the way back at the opposite wall of our school's inside cafeteria, fierce and unwavering.
"Isn't that right, Carr-bear?" Kayla's question casually reached my ears, making me pry my gaze off of him as I lastly turned to face her.
"Hmm? What?"
"I was just telling David how much you love going out dancing, ain't that right Care?" She said with a smirk and that certain glint in her eyes I already knew too damn well.
Oh great. Now what? What evil plan are you coming up with now?
"She's just crazy about it, dancing, fooling around. She's a real party animal, this one right here," She gently tapped my shoulder with her palm twice, my eyes narrowing as I continued to look at her with a glower that said "you're so dead". But she didn't stop there. Nooo way. Instead she just kept going like she didn't give a rat's ass about my silent threatening, her grin widening before spewing those following words,
"In fact, I think you should ask her to go out with you. For the Fall Prom, of course,"
"Am I right girls? I think they would make such a cute pair, wouldn't they?"
My sister and Jess only giggled in response, David joining them with a chuckle as they all looked at my sulking expression.
I knew Fall Prom was right around the corner but truth to be told, I really wasn't in the mood for it. Not after everything that was happening lately. Plus I really didn't want another chance to spend some more time in someone's certain vicinity. Five days a week for half a day was already enough as it was. Even though he was now keeping a fair distance, thanks to David's constant presence.
"You know what? I think I will, actually. It's not like I have anyone else in mind and I do enjoy her company,"
I stupidly blinked a few times at the sound of those words coming out of his mouth, my eyes finding his warm and rich brown ones as I stared back at him in disbelief.
Did he really just-
"What do you say, Care? Will you do me the honors of going to Fall Prom, with me?"
A round of aww's followed, the girls already swooning in their seats as I continued to stare back at him while gaping like a fish.
Needless to say that David had actually proved to be a very sweet guy in these past few days and the girls were already in love with him, hence their excessive reactions. However, as I was about to answer for some fucked-up reason my gaze trailed back to Satan, just noticing the way his expression changed from fierce to downright murderous as he glowered at the back of David's head.
And the moment that simple word squeezed its way past my lips a loud commotion followed as Nathan kicked the poor table in front of him with so much force that it actually flipped, angrily storming out of the cafeteria right after.

Wrapping my hand around my ankle, I pulled at it and brought my calf against my ass into a mild stretch as I absently hummed a song, scrolling through my phone as I searched for my special running playlist.
I continued to humm until I've found a certain song I was actually searching for, pushing my airpod into my ear and hitting play before shoving my phone into my arm band.
I slowly started to jog, welcoming the crisp morning air into my lungs in deep and measured breaths and the shy rays of sunshine peeking through the natural park's thick trunks and dense foliage, discreetly caressing every part of uncovered skin on my body.
The upbeat tune blared in my left ear -as I didn't like covering them both and completely lose focus of the world's natural sounds around me- making me mumble the lyrics as I mindlessly ran at a slow pace down the leaf-covered path.
"I can feel you over here, I can feel you over here, you take up every corner of my mind, what you gon' do now?"
I sang a little bit louder, continuing to do so as I trained my muscles, enjoying that sweet burn and warmth provided by the movement.
I continued to run until that burn started to prod at my lungs, requesting for a small break. So I slowed my pace until stopping altogether, allowing myself a few moments of calming down and a few deep breaths.
I fished my phone from my arm band, unlocking it and starting to scroll through my playlist as I wanted to search for another song I liked when the sound of rustling leaves reached my ear, drawing my attention.
All thoughts suddenly left me as I watched two raggedy-looking men flanking my sides as they stepped out from behind the trees.
"Gimme that phone if you wanna live," One of them spoke, his eyes holding a certain glint of madness as he licked his chapped lips.
"Now girl!" I startled at the sound of the other's menacing yell, my eyes widening with pure horror as soon as I saw that knife in his hand.
Fuck.
I took a step back, my breath coming out in short pants and my blood pumping in my ears as anxiety rose within me.
"Beat it, if you wanna live,"
My entire body suddenly froze, immediately recognizing that thundering voice as I watched the two raggedy men look somewhere past my shoulder, their eyes wide with what could only be described as fear as they didn't waste another moment and ran the other way.
Warmth caressed my back as I felt him approach, my breath hitching within my throat whilst his touched my damp and bare shoulder.
"You're a terrible singer," He whispered in my ear, making me suddenly feel so annoyed as I whipped around to face him.
"What are you doing here? Wait, why are you freaking naked?!?" I shrieked, shocked to notice that he was actually as bare as the day he was born.
What the fuck?!?
I accidentally let my gaze slip over the length of his unbelievably hot and muscled body, my eyes growing in size as I risked a glance at that monster dangling between his legs.
Oh my god why the fuck did I do that?
I immediately slapped my hands over my face, covering my eyes in utter embarrassment.
"Ugh, you're such a prude. Why do you even care?"
"And stop acting like you've never seen a guy's dick before. It's not that big of a deal," I heard him say, prying my hands away as I opened my mouth to tell him otherwise only to immediately close it back as I quickly decided that he didn't need to know anything about me anyway.
"Come on, I don't have all day," He threw over his shoulder as he sauntered through the tall trees, making me unwillingly stumble after him as I struggled to keep my gaze averted from his firm ass.
"W-where are we going?"
"Back to your car,"
I suddenly stopped as soon as I heard his words, firmly crossing my arms.
"No we're not,"
"Yes, we are. Don't make me come all the way there and drag your ass myself," He menacingly warned as he turned around to face me, my head immediately snapping to the side as I didn't want to accidentally let my gaze slip again.
"No, I don't want to. I'm not going anywhere with you. You don't get to tell me what to do, okay?" I shouted in rebuttal.
"You're not the boss of me! And this is...this is fucking weird! I mean why are you even naked anyway? Where are your damn clothes? Are you like one of those gross weirdos who like to jog butt-naked in the morning or something? And why are you here anyway? Are you freaking following me around now?" I ranted out as I couldn't help but feel so damn weirded out by the whole situation, my cheeks heating up as soon as I noticed that he had actually moved closer, standing but a few steps away from me.
"Actually, you are mine. Mine to do as I damn please with so when I say that you're going back home, there's no room for discussion. You will get into that car and drive back home," He firmly said as he stepped even closer towards me, my gaze clashing with his as I craned my neck to look up at him with defiance.
I was about to spew out a very nasty comeback when his hand lifted, his fingers gingerly gliding over the side of my neck as he pushed a few strands of hair behind my shoulder.
"And why does it bother you so much though? The fact that I'm naked? Is it because I'm irresistible and you secretly want me to lay you over these leaves and make sweet sweet love to you?" His head tilted to the side, his emerald green and intense gaze sweeping over my flustered features as he waited for an answer, a tiny smirk appearing at the corner of his lips.
What the hell? What was he playing at? Was he seriously trying to intimidate me like this?
I thickly swallowed, starting to realize that I hadn't said anything yet and that he was actually managing to affect me in a way as I could feel my heart pump so hard, my entire body feeling so hot whilst my feminine parts slowly pulsed with a certain need.
Eww! Was I...sexually reacting to Satan?!?
"Fuck," He growled out, his nostrils flaring as his eyes suddenly turned gold, effectively managing to scare the shit out of me.
"Carina, I want you to run," He grunted, his demeanor so dark and serious as he looked between my eyes.
"What?"
"Just fucking run!" He roared at me, making me stumble and land on my butt mere moments before an impossibly large grey wolf suddenly pounced from between the trees, baring its teeth.
A loud and horrified scream tore through my throat, dragging myself backwards over the leafy ground as I watched Nathan turn around, adopting a defensive stance as he faced the angry wolf.
However, what followed next could only be described as a scene pulled out from a horror movie as Nathan's bones suddenly started to pop and crack as dark hair sprouted from every single area on his body, little by little shifting and rearranging until a large and completely black beast stood in his stead.
