9. Living nightmares
I took one last sip from my glass, the movie still playing in the background as I sat up straighter in my comfy chair and looked over the couch, noticing my sister and Kayla had already fallen asleep, lying sprawled one over the other as they loudly snored and with their mouths open.
I quietly giggled and rose myself from my seat, stretching out my cramped up muscles and bones before leaning over the table and took Dre's phone, taking a picture of them sleeping like that.
My lips escaped a stifled laugh as I set it as wallpaper on her phone before placing it back on the table, giving them one last glance.
And with a tired yawn, I turned off the TV and went upstairs to my room as I was already feeling sleepy as hell.
My eyes watered as I let out another big yawn, barely seeing my door as I swung it open and stepped into the darkened room.
I mildly shivered as for some reason it felt a little bit colder, my body just yearning to nestle under my puffy covers and warm up as I drifted off to dreamland.
Unfortunately, that didn't happen as before I could even take a step in my bed's direction a big and incredibly warm hand suddenly wrapped over my mouth, my heart jumping as another wrapped itself around my stomach, effectively pressing the back of my body against another, much firmer and warmer one.
"Don't make a sound or you'll be sorry," That unmistakable deep voice softly said in my ear, my pulse spiking as I immediately recognized it.
Nathan.
I quickly started to struggle in his hold as I couldn't help but let that terrible fear take control of me, wildly kicking and squirming until I was suddenly free, harshly panting as I widely stared at the outline of his large body.
"W-what are you doing here? How did you get in?"
He remained quiet and stepped closer instead, my own feet taking me backwards until I was met with the feel of a wall pressing against my back as my bathroom light flickered on, casting a soft light over his frame as well as the bathroom door was already open.
"S-stay back," I warned, my body already trembling as I looked at his deceivingly handsome face, just noticing that tiny smirk tugging at the corner of his soft pink lips.
"I'll scream," My heart pounded into my chest as I watched him slowly approach into a rather predatorial way.
"You can try," His head tilted to the side, those emerald eyes trailing over my body once before settling on my face again.
"Please, just...leave me alone! What do you want from me?" My voice trembled as he stopped right in front of me, tears starting to pool in my eyes as I couldn't help but feel so vulnerable with him so close to me.
Why was he doing this?
"Please..." I hiccuped, my breath stopping inside my chest as his body softly pressed against my own, allowing me to feel his discreet perfume and that burning heat seeping through his every pore.
My gaze hesitantly rose to meet his, for some reason feeling my heartbeat decreasing, my entire being slowly falling into a peaceful trance as his arm snuck around my waist, pulling me even closer against him while his other hand rose to move my hair away, baring my shoulder to him.
I let out a small whimper, my hands tightly clutching against the lapels of his leather jacket as he leaned closer and closer, feeling the delicate touch of his hot breath as his nose skimmed against the side of my neck.
"Wah..." I almost moaned, a wave of liquid heat suddenly pooling in my lower abdomen as he straightened back up to look at me, only to notice that his eyes were now black again.
"I don't hate you, Carina. I only hate what you are to me," He lowly said into a rather rough voice, making me simply stare up at him in utter shock for a moment.
And before I could even blink again, he disappeared into the night.
**
My lips broke out into another small yawn as I still felt so fucking tired, lightly stretching out my sore limbs as I quietly sat and waited for our first period to start.
Damn Kayla and her freaking psychotic energy.
She managed to turn our whole house upside down within the span of a single weekend.
She made us drink, play games, watch movies and do stupid shit non-stop, during the entire weekend.
She was fucking unstoppable. Insatiable even.
Not to mention that despite the fact that it was already monday our moms weren't even home yet, which meant that she would get to extend her stay at our place.
Mother of fucking hell...
Dre was excited though. She absolutely loved having her in the house. They slept together, baked cookies together, hell, they even took showers together.
Well I guess anything else is better than having mom home though.
I almost snickered at the thought, lightly shaking my head as I fished out from my jacket pocket that old phone I'd found lying around in one of my drawers at home and casually checked the time before shoving it back in.
I sighed in utter boredom, already dreaming of my comfy bed when the door of the classroom suddenly swung open, watching Nathan confidently walk inside with that regal gait of his.
Oh great.
My cheeks turned a little bit hotter as I remembered all about our encounter on friday night, those last words of his still replaying on and on in my head.
I still couldn't figure out what he meant with that.
What I am to him?
What could I ever be to him, actually?
Because despite of what he'd said to me that time, about me being his betrothed or whatever, we still didn't even know each other and we didn't even have to.
Like I said, this was still the twenty-first century and we still lived in a free world, meaning that he could just refuse to have anything to do with me and stop with all this nonsense at once.
So why not do it?
I casually wondered as his gaze fell on me with the clear intent of sitting next to me as he started walking between the rows of desks.
However, before he could even get to that empty seat next to me another guy beat him to it, my brows furrowing with surprise as I watched the guy plop his stuff over the desk at the same time as his butt touched the seat.
I just looked at him as he turned his head to the side to give me a warm smile, noticing it was actually the other guy from Nathan's clique.
What the hell?
My gaze trailed back to Nathan, only to notice that trace of pure irritation and anger clouding his features as he gave the guy one last pointed look before moving to find himself another seat.
"If you've come to have a go at me too, I suggest you find your amusement elsewhere," I flatly said as I stared straight ahead, refusing to give him a single ounce of my attention.
"Have a go?"
My head snapped to the side again to look at his visibly confused expression, just noticing that warmth in his rich brown eyes.
I couldn't help but also notice that he was actually handsome too, his curly brown hair sitting atop his head into a wild mess as he showed me his dazzling smile and dimples, those two silvery earrings dangling from each ear giving him just a tad bit of a bad boy vibe.
"Hi, I'm David," He nicely said, stretching out his hand for me to shake over the table.
"Okay," I reluctantly responded, casually noticing how tiny my hand seemed in his much larger one as I rather timidly placed it in his, watching him gently wrap his fingers around my hand before giving it a mild shake, using such little force as if he were afraid he could somehow hurt me.
My gaze rose to meet his again for another moment when the voice of our teacher suddenly reached my ears, effectively drawing my attention to the front of the classroom as the lesson had already started.
I quickly searched for something to write with as our teacher started writing some important points over the board, lightly grunting out in exasperation as I just couldn't seem to find anything.
"Do you need a pencil?"
My head quickly snapped to the side, noticing David already holding a pencil between his fingers as he looked at me with another smile.
"T-thank you," I timidly took the pencil from him, somehow feeling the intense burn of someone else's stare on me, from the corner of my eye noticing a certain black silhouette, its emerald gems closely watching every single interaction between David and I.
