8. YOU ARE NOT ONE OF US

Chapter 8

AURORA

"Who are you? What do you want with my Alpha? Why are you here?" She pressed the knife firmly against my throat causing me to freeze.

"What the fuck do you want from me?" I asked breathlessly.

"You think you can have my mate and I will not notice?"

"I have no idea of what you are talking about" I was still so shocked and bemused, the dagger seemed to be digging a little into my flesh.

My blood dripped down my neck as I tried to catch my breath.

The room buzzed with tension as the lady threatened to kill me.

"You're not one of us" she muttered, eyes narrowing with a mix of confusion and suspicion as she took a look at the dagger with my blood on it.

"No, I'm not, I am from the south" I replied, still grappling with the shock of her attack.

"But I don't understand why you're trying to kill me"

Cassandra's expression shifted from accusation to contemplation as she examined the blood on the knife.

"Witch blood" she murmured, pushing me away from her grip.

She was so mortified and confused, in that instant, i threw the lady to the ground. The clatter of the dagger echoed through the room as we engaged in a desperate struggle.

She pounced on me, struggling to stab me with the dagger, I held on to it and threw it away, giving her the only option of using her hands to strangle me.

Daemon stormed into the room, his voice cutting through the tension.

"What madness is this?" He thundered.

"Cassandra are you insane? What the hell are you trying to do?" He picked her up and threw her off me.

Cassandra fell to the floor and began to plead, "Daemon, listen! She is not who you think she is. Jayda is a ......"

"Shut it! You have no right to kill our healer. What sort of jealousy is this?" Daemon raised his voice.

"Jealousy? I am only trying to save us all, she is a big threat" Cassandra defended herself.

"Cassandra have you lost your mind? She's our only hope, and you're jeopardizing everything!"

As they both continued to argue, I quickly searched around for a piece of clothing to clean up my blood before Daemon could see it.

Cassandra was right, I am partially a witch but I am also a warewolf, my dominant trait is that of my mother.

She was a witch and my father was a wolf but my blood is not the same the wolf blood and that is why my mother told me to never reveal my identity, especially to the westerners because they were famous for killing witches.

They never saw the good in witches.

Before Cassandra could explain further, Daemon's expression hardened and he turned away, dismissing her.

"I won't let you destroy our chance for a better kingdom. Leave, Cassandra, before you do any more harm."

As Cassandra walked away, she gave me spiteful glare, one that I could read as "I will be back for you"

"Are you alright?" Daemon asked, his tone was full of concern.

"I am fine" I replied abruptly, turning to walk away on him.

"Wait" His firm grip caused me to halt. Slowly, I could feel my blood coming out so I turned, to avoid him staring at it.

"Are you bleeding? Did she hurt you?" He tried to take a look but I pulled my arm and walked away.

"I will be fine" Another cold reply left my lips before walking out of the room.

Quickly, I ran into the apartment and searched for a bandage to clean off the wound. I wiped off the blood and let myself heal from the slight cut.

It is getting even more difficult to hide my identity as an half breed and a daughter of Alpha Tristan.

Now one person knows my secret and she does not look like someone who would willingly hide it for me, by the looks of it she loves Alpha Daemon and thinks that I want him.

In less than one month of stepping my foot in this pack, I already have an enemy and she knows my number one secret, that I am not a complete wolf.

I sat on the floor, trying to calm my racing pulse as disturbing thoughts rushed in.

The thoughts of an angry mob, holding knives, sharp objects and a torch of fire at my doorstep filled my head.

I have to find a way to be on cassandra's good side so she does not spill my secret.

A mild knock on the door pulled me out of my reverie, I took one last look at my neck to make sure that I was completely healed and there was no blood coming out of it.

"It's Daemon, I just want to check if you are okay" His voice alone made goosebumps roll across my skin.

I took a deep breath before opening the door to see his face.

"Are you alright, I am really sorry about Cassandra, she is a menace and she is overly jealous sometimes" He walked into my room and closed the door.

"She really cut you? Damn that bitch! Let me have a look" He said, trying to come closer.

"I am fine Daemon, it is just a little cut besides I am a healer, I think I can handle myself" I said calmly.

"Please do not worry about Cassandra, she is not a threat okay? I will handle her" He assured firmly.

What happens when she reveals to him that I am a witch? What will happen then? He will send his wolves to kill and ambush me like they did to my mother. I can not take that risk, I will have to shut her up before she speaks a word about me or better still, I will leave.

"I just can't stay here anymore, my life is at risk" I said.

"Why? because of Cassandra? She is nothing but a harmless fly and I swear it, this will be the last time she lays her hands on you" She continued to assure me.

"She is your mate Daemon, she does not like you around me so please give me space" I begged.

"I know she is my mate but I want you and only you" He took slow but deliberate steps towards me.

"No, you are endangering my life even more" my breathing began to fail me as our bodies came in contact.

If Daemon does not leave me, Cassandra will spill my secret and the whole pack will be against me.

At this point my life is in jeopardy.
