Chapter 9
Amelia smiled, “you were such a bubbling kid. Adored by both your parents.” Her voice echoed in my head, sadly I couldn't remember, I was too young when everything happened.
I turned around, feeling disoriented and confused. I found myself standing in what looked like a living room, and I spotted a few framed photographs hanging on the wall. I walked over to them, and my heart stopped as I recognized the people in the photos.
It was my parents. I had never known them in this life, but I felt a sense of recognition as I studied their faces. My father was tall and handsome, with dark hair and piercing blue eyes. My mother was beautiful, with delicate features and a warm smile.
“This was taken a week before their deaths '. She said, I touched the frame, then turn to Amelia.
“A lot has happened all these years and I can't believe that I have a life like this”. She looked at me with pitiful eyes. I had gone through a lot, from my early struggles to being married to an Anderson.
“It's time you take over and continue where your parents and I stopped, I'll be here to guide you.” with teary eyes, I rushed to hug her, she had brought meaning and a sense of purpose to me.
.
…..
The lights shone through my windows, the exquisite curtains blocking its direct ray of sunshine hitting me, I sat up in bed, my head spinning as I took in my surroundings. I was in a large, luxurious bedroom, and the sun was streaming through the windows.
I looked around, taking in the opulence of the room, and I realized that this was my bedroom, not the tacky and small one I was used to, although I was still getting adjusted to this new life it was worth it.
I was back in my own body, back in my own life, and it all felt so surreal. I stood up, feeling slightly unsteady on my feet, and then I heard a voice behind me.
“You're awake ma'am?" a young lady asked, her voice tinged with concern. I turned around, and my eyes widened in recognition.
She was standing before me dressed in a black and white uniform, holding a silver tray with a pitcher of water and a bowl.
"I've brought you some water," she said, her voice gentle. "You looked like you could use it." I didn't know what to say, still feeling dazed and confused. She placed the tray on the bedside table, and then she took my hand. "Why don't you let me help you into the bath," she said. I hesitated, but then I drifted back,
“Oh don't worry, I'll take care of myself. Aren't I too old for that?” I teased, she hung her head low, but I could see her warm smile,
“Not ma'am.”
“You should look at me, I'm not going to bite, you know?” I said, she instantly shook her head in refusal.
“Ber..lin..” my eyes caught the tag on her chest, I'm sure Amelia did that so I wouldn't get confused.
“You look Pretty, you can look at me.” She hesitantly, raised her head slowly, meeting with mine,
“There…see? We're all good now.” She forced a small smile, I was sure she was getting all awkward.
“Should I run your bath, ma'am? I sighed,
“Ok… you can. Not too cold or hot. Lukewarm.” I said to her, she nodded and then walked into the bathroom.
After she was done, she left to go do something else. As I took my bath, I sank into the warm water, feeling the tension seeping out of my body. I closed my eyes, allowing myself to relax, when I heard a soft rustling sound. I guessed it would be Berlin.
I walked out of the bathroom, using the face towel as I wiped my face, I opened my eyes and saw that She had placed a blazer and palazzo pants on the bed. I wondered if they were meant for me, and I felt a flicker of excitement.
This all felt so surreal, but I couldn't deny that it was also exhilarating, I dried myself off, my heart beating a little faster as I picked up the clothes. The palazzo pants were a rich emerald green, and the blazer was a deep blue. They were the most beautiful clothes I had ever seen, and they fit me perfectly.
I put them on, feeling a little like a princess from a fairytale. I looked in the mirror, and I couldn't help but smile. I felt like a new person, reborn and ready to take the world by storm, I grabbed my bag, which I saw was also a perfect match for my outfit, and I headed out of the bedroom.
I descended the staircase, feeling as though I was floating on air. The light in the mansion was somehow brighter, and the colors seemed more vibrant. I arrived at the dining room, which was filled with the delicious smells of breakfast. Amelia was already having her breakfast,
“Good Morning…you're eating already?” I greeted her with a warm smile,
“Well, since you're taking all the time to dress up.”
I threw my arms around her, hugging her tightly.
" I have to look my best, don't I?," I said, my heart full.
I sat down to eat breakfast. The chef emerged from the kitchen, carrying a silver tray laden with food. The smell was heavenly, and I felt my mouth watering as he set the tray down in front of me.
"Good morning, madam," the chef said, bowing slightly. "I have prepared a variety of dishes for you to choose from. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you." I smiled, feeling like royalty.
"Thank you so much," I said, picking up my fork.
"Everything looks delicious." I took a bite, and the flavors exploded in my mouth.
“This is delicious..”
"I'm so glad you like it," the chef said, his face beaming with pride. "I've been cooking for the family for many years, and I always try to make each meal special." I smiled, feeling like I had found a kindred spirit.
"You're very talented," I said, savoring another bite of food. "How did you learn to cook so well?" The chef's eyes lit up as he began to tell me about his journey into the culinary world. I listened intently, feeling transported by his words.
“You'll be late for work, Teresa,” Amelia says taking her last bite, she was worried, her face was filled with worries,
“What is it?” She sighs, “ I got a call this morning, there's good to be a meeting at the office, seems like the board of directors is not in favor of you being the new CEO.
“Huh? Why?” Please let today not be the worst for me.
“Apparently, Anderson has a hand in this.” She said, my hands clenched in anger.
