Chapter 4 Asher

After watching Olivia leave, Asher stood in the same place for a while. He worked here for a few years, and he never saw a vampire trying to socialize itself into human life, but he saw vampires losing their minds when smelling blood.

First, when he heard her voice, he shivered. Then, when he smelled the scent of her, he felt an arousal that the last time he felt a long time ago. For a moment, he frowned and thought the Moon Goddess might gift him again. He didn’t want to end this daze but was desperate to see who gave him this heavenly feeling.

However, when he turned to see the owner of the pleasant voice and scent, he felt like the Moon Goddess hadn’t just gifted him, but she also made fun of him.

The female vampire beside him was beautiful and could easily fool anyone but not Asher. Vampire’s nature and their gorgeous looks were made to trick their prey. He knew that well.

Asher’s current disappointment just made him hate vampires more. Even if he could force himself to say nothing to Dr. Knox against her, his downcast mood made him want her to leave as soon as possible.

After warning Olivia, Asher returned to the hospital. When his shift ended, he changed his clothes and went to his car. He sat in it and started the engine.

On his way back home, he stopped at a fast-food restaurant. He was hungry, and he knew his fridge was empty. He ordered two large doner kebabs, which would have been enough for a small family, and went to his house. His house was out of town, in the middle of vast private land. He chose a house and land like that on purpose.

As soon as he was home, he undressed, only leaving his boxers on, and then he sat down on his coach. He turned the TV on and ate while watching a stupid show. He collapsed into his bed when he finished eating a large amount of food. Feeling full, he nearly fell asleep, but his phone made him open his eyes. He knew who that was. The only person who called him regularly was his father, Arthur, the Blue Moon Pack’s Alpha.

“Dad? What is it?”

“Asher. What are you doing?”

“I was about to sleep. I’m tired.”

The other part remained quiet for a while, making Asher frown.

“What is wrong? Are you not well?”

But instead of an answer, he heard his father coughing badly.

“Have you taken your medication?” He asked with worry.

“I have pup, but that doesn’t help me anymore, I’m afraid.” He panted.

Asher sat up, and he hesitated for a while.

“I’ll be there in half an hour.” Then he hung up.

His father suffered from lung cancer. Even though he was an alpha werewolf, his body couldn’t fight the illness. Their bodies differed from human bodies, and they never experienced cancer in a werewolf. The doctor thought his immune system couldn't deal with the cancerous cells.

Asher, as a doctor, tried many treatments, but nothing helped. Finally, because he thought there was nothing to lose, he tried chemotherapy on his father, but it seemed like it made his condition worse.

He was a widow. Asher’s mother passed away when he was sixteen. A rogue had attacked her. It took a long time for them to find her, and she lost a lot of blood. The pack’s doctors were unable to help her. That was the time he decided he would be a doctor. There were a few packs away where he could study, but he didn't want to be so far from his father, so he chose a university in a human city nearby.

Since then, he has studied so hard that he became one of the best medical students at the university. After his first year, he spent in a hospital as a medic, and many doctors recommended him to the best hospitals and private practices.

Alpha Arthur loved his pup and was proud of him being a successful doctor, but when he told Asher he should stay in the pack’s hospital with the pack’s doctor to study about the werewolves, Asher argued with him. Not that he hated to be a werewolf, but he’s got so used to working with humans, and he felt thrilled when he received a compliment. He secretly feared werewolf doctors would dispirit him for he studied from humans.

Before studying outside the pack, Arthur taught him everything he must know about managing a pack and Alpha’s duties. That knowledge made him confident he would rather be a doctor only, but he didn’t dare to tell that to his father. As an Alpha, he accepted that he would someday lead his pack until a particular day that sent him to live with humans.

Although the full moon was still difficult, he learned to handle it. Asher kept a calendar and ensured he was off work when it happened.

Before his wolf appeared, he locked the surrounding doors and used handcuffs to lock himself to the fitted bed.

He always wanted to break free madly, but Asher ensured he never succeeded. His neighbours were far away, so they never heard his wolf growling at not getting his needed freedom.

Finally, when his beast noticed he would not escape, it started howling, which wasn’t interesting at all, as many of the humans in the surrounding area had dogs.

When he arrived at the gate of the land, two gammas opened it for him. Even if he heard them welcoming him back home, their gazes told him their honest thoughts. They didn’t like him, which he was well aware of. All the wolves in the territory disliked him for a specific reason. Leaving the pack and leaving his ill father alone was nothing compared to that.

He rushed into the main building, where he met the same glances. He felt awful, just like he always did when he visited his home.

“Asher?” He ceased and turned his head suddenly to look at Harry, his father’s beta. As a beta, Harry was tall and muscular. His thick, black hair turned grey, and his brown eyes could kill him, like always since Asher left.

“Harry.” Asher nodded as a greeting.

“Why are you here?” Harry asked, using a tone that angered Asher instantly.
