Chapter 5: Irina

“Oh my fucking God!” I blatted out, walking as quickly as my feet could. I didn't try to look back in the room that I stormed out to.

“Alonzo Waldorf. I married the wrong man. H-How did that happen?” I combed through my head for an answer, but nada!

“Irina, you finally answered! Where are you? What happened to your little scheme? Did Damian's uncle say yes to marrying you?”

“Are you in the hotel?”

“Yeah. I just got here. Why?”

“Is the name of the guest staying in PS01 Alonzo Waldorf?”

“Yes. Why do you ask? Do you know him too?”

“If Alonzo Waldorf is staying at PS01 then Alonzo Nevan, Damian's uncle, is staying in a different suite?”

“He's at PS02, Irina. Hold up, why are you asking me this? Did you enter the wrong hotel room last night?”

“I didn't, but the one stationed in the reception last night gave me the wrong hotel room. She gave me Alonzo Waldorf and not only did he divirginize me last night, I'm married to him too!” I said, gnawing my teeth furiously.

“Irina, are you for real?”

“I wish that I'm kidding, but I'm not. God! How stupid can I be? Why didn't I ask for his name?”

I stopped to reminisce about things that happened so fast since last night.

“I asked for his name! It's Alonzo, too, which is why I assumed that he was Damian's uncle when he said yes last night.”

“Irina, where are you?”

“In front of the courthouse, hailing a cab, but they won't even stop!” I ranted.

“I'm picking you up.”

“Nevermind. I just got one. I'm coming home to claim whatever's left for me,” I said before I cut the call.

“Oh, God. Help me, God!” I sighed and upon fluttering, my eyes opened. The driver was staring at me, weirded out by how I acted.

“I should have snatched the damn marriage contract and run off with it. If that man filed our marriage contract, I'd be legally bound to him, which means, I'll need a good divorce lawyer to get out of this mess.” I tapped my head against the backrest.

“How bad can my life be? I lost my boyfriend to my sister, and the company to that same brat. My virginity to a stranger, and I'll be a divorcee a day after I just got married.” I licked my lip and chuckled miserably.

“I must have done something awful and unforgivable in my past life.”

“Miss?”

I stopped whispering things to myself and looked out the window after the driver pointed it at me.

“Oh, I'm back in hell.” I spent another minute inside the cab after I paid for my fare before I got out.

“Welcome home, Miss Irina.” I smiled timidly at our security guard while my feet moved slowly.

“I thought you're not coming back home. I was about to throw a party thinking that we're free from you.”

I decided to ignore Esmeray who was purposely provoking me to worsen my situation.

“Where's Mom and Dad?” I asked and heard their voices in our father's office before Esmeray could answer me.

I entered into his office where the two got interrupted by their conversation.

“You're done throwing a fit?” Daddy asked.

“Throwing a fit and acting like a brat. Is this what it looks like to you, Dad?”

“I was hurt! Esmeray and Damian betrayed me. They broke my heart, and you think that I'm throwing a fit?”

Warren Hayes closed his laptop and gave me a cold look.

“I heard from my secretary that you had made an announcement of naming Esmeray as your heir.”

“I did. After you disappointed me with your immaturity and unnecessary outbursts, I concluded that your sister is fitting to run our company after me.”

“Esmeray is a fashion design graduate who never used her degree to work even for a day. She knows nothing about running a company, and you want her to be the next CEO?” I was silenced by Hera's slap.

“I should have done that to you last night! You should be lowering yourself and asking your sister to forgive you, but even when you're about to lose everything, you still think that you're better than she?”

Fear took over my sanity at what my mother was trying to hint at.

“What are you insinuating?”

“Warren decided to take your name off his inheritance. You won't be able to take a single dime from him, as well as your shares in the company.”

“What? You're lying. I don't care if he chose not to give me any inheritance, but my shares are mine! It was gifted to me by Grandpa before he died!”

Daddy pushed a piece of paper near me that I pulled up only to see that my company shares were indeed transferred successfully to his name.

“You can't do this, to me. I'm a Hayes. I have rights towards the company, to the family's wealth, and you can't decline me of these rights!”

Warren dialed to the security. One second, I was inside our mansion, and the following I was being thrown out like an intruder.

“You can't do this to me! I won't let you strip me of everything!” I constantly thumped our gate.

“Open this damn thing and let me in! I'm not yet done with all of you! Open up." I shouted.

An hour later, I was sitting on the pavement, crying while I covered my face with my hand. Like I was not yet unlucky enough, it started to rain.

There was nowhere for me to go. I sat on the pavement until I could no longer feel those sprinkles.

Someone was standing in front of me and when I looked up, the man that I married accidentally was smiling at me holding an umbrella.

“Y-You. W-W-What are you doing here?”

“I'm glad that I searched for you. I had a gut feeling that you need your husband, wife.” Alonzo gave out his hand.

“Come on up, Irina. I'll take you home, and we'll figure this out. That's what married couples do, right? They help solve each other's problem.”
