Chapter 41: A little cliché

Ellasandra's POV

I looked back and tried to listen to their conversation but I couldn’t hear Lance’s voice clearly. I just continue making the cappuccino and hope that my husband will tell me the truth if I try it.

My husband laughs. "Okay. I didn’t realize she would do such a thing. I guess she was mad because the woman she thought to be weak had taken my heart out of her control. I will send my wife to visit her. I want her to get madder after this," he replies.

I look at him and lean my back against the kitchen counter. I cross my arms around my chest and wait for his explanation. "Just watch over and tell me if Matthew will come over to check on her. My wife will be there after… an hour. Bye," he says. He places his phone on the island counter. He smiled while looking at my reaction.

"She overdoses herself with sleeping pills and she’s now in the hospital where Meredith and Joan work. I think she’ll call me sooner or later and ask me to be there for her," he explains.

I'm glad that he listened to me and followed my lead. I thought I had to be more cunning and manipulative but it became effortless. I don’t even need to use Mikael to make him feel bad about something. I turned around when I heard the sound from the coffee machine.

"Then she better be ready. If you send me there, I’m sure she’ll be more triggered. What if she says that she’ll commit suicide if you don’t go back to her?" I ask.

I poured the coffee into the mugs and grabbed the milk from his fridge. I used my peripheral vision and noticed that the woman who came to clean the room was not focused on her job. It’s like she’s trying to eavesdrop on us.

He nestled his body on me and wrapped his hands around me. "The room attendant, she’s spying on us. Speak a little low..." I mumble. I made sure he understood what I was talking about.

"I don’t know. I hope she won’t do that," he replied naturally. I noticed the signal his hand gave. I think that’s not really his answer.

"Hello, miss? Are you not done yet?" Meredith says. The woman was startled and didn’t realize that Meredith was watching her.

"I'm done, ma’am. Excuse me then," she says. Tristan stood up and guided her towards the door. I don’t know if Meredith realizes that the woman was trying to listen to our conversation. He sighs.

"Even if she does that, I’m sure she won’t kill herself. Knowing her queen-like character, she will only threaten me in order to control me. She will hurt herself but make sure that she won’t die. Ashley is manipulative, Ellasandra. She will try to make me her puppet again," my husband added.

I know she will do that. Rafael knows her well and I guess he already learned his lesson from two years ago. I looked at the coffee that I was stirring. I can’t believe that she aborted the baby they have. A year ago, after I confessed to Joan that I gave birth and the father was the man I’ve been obsessed with, she told me about Ashley’s case.

I was stunned and didn’t believe that but when I called her mom and she confirmed it, I felt bad for Rafael and the baby. They didn’t get the chance to see each other and most of all, my husband didn’t even know the truth. I was planning to tell him that secret but Joan did it anyway.

He nestled his face on my nape. "I'm mad. I feel so dumb. My heart is heavy. I feel like I’ll explode because of anger," he utters.

I place my hands on his hands. I have to show him my empathy. I am here for him. "I know. I was also surprised when I learned what she did. I don’t care what shitty reasons she had but the baby has the right to live. I’m sure if she gave it to you, even if she broke up with you, you'd be a great father. I saw that whenever you’re with our son," I replied.

I remember how gentle his face was when he was talking to Mikael. I never thought he could have such an angelic expression. He holds me even tighter and speaks. I think he really wants to destroy Ashley because of this.

"I'm glad you kept the baby. You didn’t abort Mikael because you hated me for everything I'd done to you. I’m glad you two are here with me. I’m glad you gave me this second chance," he says.

I turn around and face him. I blink when I see Tristan, Joan, and Meredith leaning on the island counter. "Ahem! We just want to grab our coffee and sandwich," Tristan says. I laughed and nodded.

They grab their mug and plate, then dash back into the living room. My husband suddenly chuckled because of how our friends interrupted us. I held his face and looked at him with a sweet smile. "I will never do that, even if I’m not in love and obsessed with you. Mikael is our son and I was part of the process when we were making him," I murmur. I bite my lower lips after I realize what I just said. My husband laughs because of how frank I was.

"Ah, yes. That moans and—ump!" I cover his lips and look at those three who are listening to us. I give him a glare but I know my cheeks and ears are both red. How can he say those words?

"You started it first," he whispers after putting down my hands that cover his lips. He held my chin and met my gaze intently.

"I love you. Thank you for being strong and forgiving me," he says. I pinched his cheeks and chuckled.

"Stop telling me that you love me. I heard you, silly hubby," I remarked.

His eyes glow because of his genuine smile. "But I won’t get tired of telling you that, Ellasandra. Never," he added. Meredith suddenly coughs.

"What happened?" I ask.

The two ladies looked at us and rolled their eyes. Tristan burst into laughter. What did I do for them to glare? "Too sweet. Ugh!" Joan says. I end up laughing as well.

I can’t believe these two ladies were roasting me, even if I’m enjoying my sweet moments with my husband. I notice his phone buzzing. I grab it and give it to him. "Check it. There’s a chance that Ashley messaged you about her condition," I remarked. He grabs his phone and raises the screen in my face. It’s unlocked.

"You know my password and your face is also my password. Check it yourself and reply if you want," he says.

He passed the phone and grabbed my waist. He lifted me up and made me sit at the island counter. He took our coffee and sandwich. My husband sips his coffee and smiles. "Whoa! Your coffee is the best, love," he compliments. I rolled my eyes, chuckling. I look at the message.

It was Ashley, like I expected. She sends a photo of her lying in the hospital bed. I read her message. "Please... come here. I’m in the hospital right now. I need you here. I think my illness is coming?!"

My husband listens to the words that I say. Joan laughs. I looked at her and she showed me her phone. "She messages me. I think she’s planning a shitty plan like before. Should I check on her in the hospital?" Joan says. I was about to speak but Rafael spoke first.

"Go. Do as she says. I will toy with her this time and make sure that her own trick will hurt her in the end," Rafael says. His jaw was clenched and hatred was seen in his eyes. Joan drinks her coffee all at once, even if it’s hot. She grabs her sandwich and smiles devilishly.

"I really love this game. I’ll go ahead first. See you at the hospital, darling. Let’s do it again," Joan says, winking at me. I wink too.

"Take care on your way back to the hospital," I remark. She smiled and walked away. Meredith sighs and leans back on the sofa. "I really hate your ex!," she commented, looking at Rafael.

His jaw clenched. "I do hate her more than I ever had," he says.

I cough to get their attention. "Well, if she wants to play that victim game, then she can do whatever she wants. I never intend to lose anyway," I stated.

After drinking my coffee and finishing eating the sandwich, I look at my husband and Tristan. "Stay here and make sure he won’t be reckless, Mr. Ford. How about you, Meredith? Are you going to stay here or what?" I ask. She nodded.

"I have to stay here. I’m invited to a pool party tonight. I better prepare for it. Anyway, are you going to the hospital now?"
