Married at first sight
“I promise I’m okay with it, no one is forcing me into it,”
It took Liv a few months before deciding to go ahead with the marriage. Now that she had made up her mind she’s not ready to back out now.
Seth was quite disappointed, he had hoped that she would back out. The officer asked for their documents. Seth brought out his document and Liv did the same.
The duo quickly went through the necessary formalities in less than ten minutes.
Immediately the officer issued the marriage certificate. She turned to look at Seth but he was already rushing out of the courtroom. "Wait!" she called after him, hurrying to grab her purse and follow.
She caught up to him in the hallway.
Seth kept walking as he tossed a set of keys over his shoulder. "Congratulations Mrs Brown, you now have a new home, mum told me your Bookshop is at Lekki.” Without another glance back, he pushed through the courthouse doors.
Liv stared down at the keys in her palm, head spinning with confusion and not a small amount of anger. Who did Seth think he was, pulling a stunt like this and then abandoning her?
As Seth stormed out of the courthouse, he found not just his mother still waiting outside.
"What are you still doing here, Nana?" Seth grumbled.
"I waited to see my new daughter-in-law of course!" Nana proclaimed cheerfully.
Seth groaned. "I just went ahead with the marriage because of you, the marriage isn't real."
"Nonsense, I knew you and that nice Liv would make the perfect match and you would love her with time." Nana said.
Before Seth could protest further, the courthouse doors opened again. Liv emerged, taking in the unexpected welcoming committee with disbelief. She thought Nana would have left since.
"Come here darling, let me get a look at you!" Nana said, pulling Liv into an enthusiastic hug before she could object. “Welcome to our family.”
“Seth drop your new bride off at home,” Nana said.
“I’m sorry mum but I’m very busy now. I'm supposed to be at a meeting now,” Seth replied.
Seth went on to give her money for transport fare .
“I will transfer the household expenses to you too,” Seth said.
Liv nodded.
“And let’s keep our marriage a secret for the time being,” He added.
“I will be here when you fall madly in love with her,” Nana said.
“Um, are we splitting the bills?” Liv asked, unsure of her question.
“Nonsense! You are his wife and now his responsibility,” Nana growled.
Liv smiled. “No problem then.”
She was not going to mooch off him, she has her own pride. Whatever she will be needing she will get them herself.
“I’m almost late for my meetings, you can get a cab and I will drive my mum to my brother’s house,” Seth said, raising his hand to check the time.
“Let’s exchange numbers to reach each other,” Liv said, bringing out her phone from her purse.
They exchanged numbers and Liv said his number.
“Okay bye Nana,” she bade the elderly woman goodbye.
Seth climbed into the passenger seat of his car with a sullen expression. As he pulled away from the courthouse, Nana glanced over with a smile. "Now don't look so glum, Seth. I think Liv will be good for you."
Seth just grunted in response. Nana's smile widened knowingly. "Mark my words, there's something special about that girl. She'll keep you on your toes and prevent you from getting too complacent."
"I didn't ask for any of this," Seth grumbled.
"No, but sometimes life sends us what we need, whether we like it or not," said Nana sagely. "The real question is, what are you going to do about it?"
Seth sighed. As much as he hated to admit it, Nana usually knew what she was talking about. "What do you mean?"
Nana patted his arm affectionately. "Give the girl a chance before you go running for the hills. Court her proper. Flowers, compliments, acts of service - woo that lady!"
Seth made a face. "That's not really my style...I’m just stuck with her because of you after few months if I don’t like her I will divorce her"
“You know divorce is not in our family lineage,” Nana murmured.
“Well that depends if she’s worthy of being called my wife,” Seth said.
“Nonsense! She’s the one that is supposed to say this, you ditched her immediately after marriage,” Nana growled.
After driving for a few minutes, he pulled over at an intersection.
He packed his car properly before getting down and tossing a key to one of his bodyguards. “Take mum home,” He instructed.
“I don’t wish to leave, I want to stay with you and your wife,” Nana put off a fuss.
He didn’t pay attention to her before entering into his Mercedes Benz.
She could only watch her arrogant son drive off in the luxury car.
Seth Brown is actually the CEO and sole heir to the Browns Group conglomerate.
“Punk! I will wait for the day you will be head over heels Olivia by then you won’t be able to give an explanation of your behavior,” Nana cussed her son.
Nana took her phone to put a call through Liv. “Hello dear, Seth is occupied with work, don’t take it to heart,” Nana said
“I understand Nana, I didn’t take it to heart, and he already paid for my fare. I'm on my way home already,” Liv replied.
"Just checking in on my new girl," came Nana's cheerful voice.
Liv smiled. "Thank you Nana."
"Good. And I want you to have my number, call anytime day or night. Lord knows someone needs to keep an eye on that man." Nana paused meaningfully. "Especially if he ever picks on you, understand? I'll set him straight."
"I'm sure it won't come to that," said Liv, though a small part of her was touched by the older woman's fierce protectiveness.
"All the same, my number is the speed dial on your phone now. Family looks out for each other." Nana said the last part ominously before signing off.
It took Nana a whole lot of time to convince Seth to go ahead with the marriage. There’s no way she would allow them break apart for no reason.
